I consider myself a guitar connoisseur. I have owned multiple breedloves, a Brazilian rosewood dreadnought taylor, a koa tacoma parlor guitar, and a Yairi (Alvarez's top of the line guitar). When I was in college I made money buying and selling high end guitars on ebay so I had the opportunity to test out some of the best acoustic guitars on the market.
The creator of Breedlove Guitars started off working for Taylor guitars and eventually went on to start his own business. Though the Atlas series of guitars doesn't quite have the same quality of sound as some their high end guitars, it beats any guitar out there over $1000. As far as guitars made out of mahogany go, I don't think you'll find a guitar made by anyone but Breedlove that sounds so rich.
If you are interested in buying a more expensive Breedlove guitar (or any other type of highend guitar), I suggest that you avoid myrtlewood and maple. Myrtlewood and Maple, though they are hard woods, seem to be missing something. You can't go wrong with Indian Rosewood. It has an extremely rich and smooth sound. Koa is the most balanced sounding wood out there and I personally think it is the best sounding wood when plugged in.
