Washburn Idol Series WI568CG Electric Guitar Review

I fiddled around with an Idol WI66 and liked it a lot. It felt comfortable and had a nice neck feel. Although I liked the WI66, I wanted a model that was a bit more exclusive yet had the same feel. I could not find a local dealer that was interested in helping me with any of the Washburn USA models, so I took a chance and ordered an Idol WI568CG from Amazon. Got the guitar last week and I am very happy! The guitar feels so good in my hands. It is comfortable playing either standing or sitting. The fit, finish, and quality of construction are better than my ESP Custom Eclipse and my Deluxe Strat. In fact, I like it better than any guitar I have ever played. Thank you to Washburn for making such a fine instrument and to Amazon for handling my order and shipping it so quickly.

Schecter Robin Finck Limited Edition Signature Model Electric Guitar - Red Nitro Review

Schecter Robin Finck Limited Edition Signature Model Electric Guitar - Red Nitro
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this guitar and I have to say that it is fantastic. It plays like butter! Plus the tone is very diverse. The duncan at the bridge has a very hot output, and the other duncan designed pickups sound great as well though not quite as hot. Each pickup has its own switch for single coil, humbucker, or off making the tonal options vast. The case it comes with is top notch as well. Plus, the Bigsby is a nice touch. The only thing this guitar doesn't have is a tone knob for each pickup, just one for over all tone and one volume, but you can't have everything.
For the price, you just can't beat this. It was up between this guitar and a Les Paul, and I just couldn't find a Les Paul for even 3 times the price that played better.
If you're mulling this one over, I say do it.

The Epiphone Limited Edition 1966 G-400 SILVERBURST :D , is actually my second guitar, but i have a lot of experience with good and bad guitars, i also have 3 years playing the instrument, and i was completely AMAZED, the guitar was simply perfect, that is an awesome bridge, the best i've ever used, and the silverburst color is awesome!!! i was totally surprised with this guitar, i expected less than that :).... but anyways, i highly recommend this guitar for anyone!!

The Epiphone Limited Edition 1966 G-400 Electric Guitar is a Gibson-authorized version of their great '66 SG with a solid mahogany body and slim-taper set mahogany neck. Some subtle-yet-significant differences make this one special. Instead of the small, lower horn-only pickguard, it has the larger pickguard so there aren't any pickup mounting rings around the high-output Alnico Classic humbuckers (the '66 SG had P-90 pickups). Separate volume and tone controls for each of the pickups give you complete control of your sound. The LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece provide more sustain and string changing easier. The deep double-cutaway lets you reach all 22 frets with ease.

Washburn R319SWKK Parlor Acoustic Guitar, Vintage Natural Review

Washburn R319SWKK Parlor Acoustic Guitar, Vintage Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing fingerstyle blues and ragtime guitar for about forty years (yikes!), and have owned many guitars. Over time, I've realized that my style doesn't particularly benefit from the refinement of a high-end Gibson, Martin or Taylor guitar. I've traded those off for banjos, mandolins, Irish flutes, etc.... But the vintage look of the Washburn parlors did appeal to me, so I ordered one. The first one that came was a mistake, and had the laminate top. I loved it, but really wanted solid wood, so I returned it and got the R319SWKK, which I like a bit better. This is NOT a top-tier instrument in terms of fit and finish. It's a little bit funky, but that all fits in well with the distressed finish and vintage look. Mine came set up very well, and plays great. I use medium gauge Elixers, and get plenty of nice balanced volume. The V-neck is comfortable (for me), as is the small body size. I LOVE the look --- it's like a museum piece! This is not the best-made or best-playing fingerstyle guitar I have owned, but probably wins in the "bang for the buck" department. Recommended for an "around-the-house, don't-need-to-worry-about-it, easy-grab" guitar that also adds to your home decor.

Washburn's R319SWKK Parlor acoustic guitar packs serious big time punch in a little parlor-sized 6-string. But don't let its diminutive size fool you. The natural acoustic tones and dynamic range of this Washburn guitar will astound. The Washburn Parlor is a small-bodied guitar that packs in a surprising amount of volume and punch for its size. The popularity of these guitars peaked between the late 19th century until the 1950s, however, they are making a strong resurgence. Because of the size and incredible projection, many blues and folk musicians have used smaller-bodied guitars like the Washburn R319SWKK Parlor Guitar with much success over the years and permanently stapled them as a true-blue American folk guitar. The secret to its amazing tone and projection lies in its wood. The solid spruce top and Trembesi body create balanced tone with lots of dynamic range, not to mention with a beautiful appearance as well. The dovetail neck joint adds strength to the guitar, and helps the overall tone. The Washburn R319SWKK guitar's mahogany neck and the ebony bridge and fretboard add sturdiness to the instrument and clarity to the overall sound. The 24-3/4" scale, 48mm nut width, 16" radius and V neck shape provides comfort when accessing the acoustic guitar's 18 frets. Dressed in an aged satin finish, and featuring die-cast tuners and chrome hardware, the Washburn Parlor guitar looks like something right out of a museum, with a timeless tone that will never grow old. Order yours today and hear the incredible sound of a parlor. Includes case.

Fretlight FG-441 Vintage Electric Guitar, Sunburst Review

Fretlight FG-441 Vintage Electric Guitar, Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This a comparison of the FG-441 guitar by an owner/player of a Fender Strat Deluxe, Gibson Les Paul, Reverends, and others.
The FG-441 is of the Fender Jaguar style equipped with generic P-90 pickups and a maple neck inlaid with a composite material fret board that has 142 LEDs embedded to correspond with each string's fret board orientation. The hardware of the guitar is unremarkable, the saddles operate well according to their design, non-locking tuners means getting proficient with knot tying the strings to the tuner post. The feel of guitar out of box is very respectably pedestrian - heavy gauge strings high over the fret board. Frets are perfectly finished to the composite fret board, the maple neck is attached tightly to the impressively finished body of the guitar. The finish on and dimensions of the neck are surprising good - between transparent (not yellow) satin and a little narrower and little deeper when compared with Fender's Modern "C" type neck - in all very comfortable. Desired sound qualities of electric guitars are subjective and easy alterable by electronic equipment. However the guitar's played notes seemed to resonate (sustain) longer, as claim by the manufacture due to the composite fret board, also the generic P90s can "punchout" very satisfactory. A string change to medium gauge .009-.042 and lowering of string height did NOT produce buzzing along the neck of the guitar. In all an above average $300-$400 guitar.
Does the learning to play from its LED fret board speed the learning process of guitar playing? Learning to play any instrument, even you musical progenies, requires determination, physical dexterity and most importantly the ability to memorize. With a highly developed memorization skill, musical patterns (scales, tablature) are readily available to be practiced either instrumentally or visually, resulting in enhanced instrument proficiency. Undeniably the Fretlight guitar and software interface offers its user a unique visual map (those LEDs) of musical patterns and songs that can be learned at the user's pace.

The Fretlight Vintage FG-431 offers a look and a tone from a epoch time in guitar history. Its classic edges and unique shape complement the textured swamp ash body. The two vintage single coil pickups produce a tone reminiscent of the 60's while still allowing the player to shape their sound as desired with the volume and tone controls and the 3-way pickup selector switch. I bought this guitar as my "starter" guitar. I started playing in January 2009 and after 6 months, I have had nothing at all negative to say about this guitar. Friends who have played this are amazed at its sound quality, particularly when they learn about the price.
Luna recently got a boost by being featured on American Idol, but even without the publicity I'm sure this is a brand which will fare well. I am very happy to have selcted this guitar as my starter and imagine that with time I will have a "collection" of Luna guitars.

I'm really enjoying my new Tricone Resonator. It was delivered in excellent condition. The shipper had requested signature service, I had to arrange a delivery date that I would be available. No Problem, FEDEX arrainged to deliver when I was home. I took the guitar from the shipping container, to find it in perfect condition. I tuned it and played for awhile listening to the bluesy sounds it could create. Later that evening, I went to a jam session. Everyone was blown away! The price is right and a great value.for the money If you want a Metal tricone reso, this is IT!!

I bought this as a travel guitar because of its insensitivty to humidity and temperature, etc., but I did not expect it to be as playable as it is, or to sound so good. Graphite will probably never replace good old wood, but this is a valid guitar to add to the collection of any serious guitarist.

The Hybrid Series combines Carbon fiber with Glass fiber construction to achieve the signature RainSong sound and road tough stability at an attractive price point. The WS is a wonderfully versatile guitar.Combining the best qualities of large and small bodied guitars, this body shape is ideally suited for a variety of musical situations. A large, deep chamber gives the WS strong projection and rich bass. The narrow waist and tight upper bout allow for a ringing treble, good balance and clear definition of individual notes. Overall, the WS is impeccably balanced. The shapely curves and light weight make the WS a comfortable guitar to cradle or stand with. The extra deep cutaway encourages playing up the fretboard. The N2 neck is a result of an extensive, long-term collaboration with the renowned artist Steve Miller (www.stevemillerband.com) and Master Luthier John Bolin (www.bolinguitars.com).The neck design is based on a modified 'U" profile that has been popular in guitars since the 1950s.The N2 has a substantial feel that is ergonomically sound and results in better transfer of string vibration energy to the soundboard. The N2 features a truss rod that is accessible from the head stock.Graphite does not warp or bow with changes in humidity and temperature. The purpose of a truss rod in the N2 is to allow customization of the relief to suit individual preferences.

I have been playing a 1984 855 Taylor and have been playing for more years than I want to remember. I plan on carrying this 12 with me on my next festival appearance. I have had the Washburn J2812DLK now for a month or so and I like it very much. Action out of the box was nice, very playable. The fit and finish was almost flawless, one tiny little spot in the back center binding, not even worth mentioning. I have had a friend who is a luthier by trade play and inspect it and was impressed with it and the price. When he had finished playing it he said "Sounds like a box of Angels". When I bought the guitar there was no mention of a case for it but when it arrived to my surprise it did have hard case. Not the best ever case but a case none the less. I had to do a little repair on the a hinge on it but hey I can't complain since I was looking at buying one and really didn't have the money to do so. The only thing that I plan on doing to improve it is to replace the nut, saddle and bridge pins with bone parts. The guitar comes with plastic nut, saddle and bridge pins. Very nice guitar..if you are looking for a 12 you diffinitely should look at this instrument. Best price I could find on this guitar was almost $200 more anywhere else. I give four stars..Big AL

Luna 6 String Celtic Banjo Review

Luna 6 String Celtic Banjo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It arrived beautifully packed. The banjo/guitar itself is very light, much more like a guitar than a banjo and that's a good thing. I play both and this is easier to carry around than any banjo I own. When you get it, the bridge is in a packet and there are no instructions on how to place it. That is a real problem for 95% of the people who will buy this. I have experience with banjos and it still took me two hours to get it right. I first loosened the strings and worked the bridge under them. After finding the sweet spot (the harmonics on the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets are the way to know you've set the bridge correctly), I took it all apart again: the strings were just dead and clunky.
I put on extra light Martin guitar strings and went through the whole process again. Remember: there is nothing in the package to tell you how to do this. It is unplayable as it arrives -- you have to set it up. I even checked YouTube to see if Luna posted a video how-to and... nothing.
With the extra light strings on it, it sounds much better. It takes a long time to tune because tuning one string puts others out until the clear Remo banjo head settles in for the bridge. The nut is a little high, making it harder to hold down the strings on the first two frets. I'll have to deal with that later. For now, I've found that it plays best if you play it like a flatpicked guitar, a mandolin, or an octave mandolin. Using a pick and playing tremolo makes it sound very Celtic... but the left hand has to work hard to get the strings down clearly. Gotta work on that nut...

Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Review

Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own a Martin DCX1E, and like it pretty well. It plays well and has a 'Martin-like' sound. Why do I say 'Martin-like'? Because the body and sides are not wood. They are made of a laminate, not unlike formica. I know, that sounds cheap, but it actually has turned out to be pretty successful for me, and apparently for Martin. It is tough stuff. The top of the guitar is solid Sitka spruce, which is as it should be on a higher-end guitar. So how does it sound? Because they use Martin bracing and a solid top, the instrument sounds pretty much like a Martin, but because of the laminate back and sides, the guitar has noticably less volume than an all wood guitar. The sound is still good, just a little quieter than you would expect. It does retain the resonant low end which characterizes Martins. This IS an acoustic/electric, and if you play it electrically, the lack of acoustic volume is not an issue. The guitar has a piezo pickup under the bridge (pretty standard for A/E guitars), which is mated to a Fishman EQ/preamp, which sounds good through a regular amp, and even better (Wow!)through a PA (use a DI box, though). If you are playing electrically, you may have feedback problems. If so, get a Planet Waves Screeching Halt sound hole plug. Now, here's some other stuff. The neck and the action are pretty good, although I had an action job done by a luthier to make it better. The neck is a little different, too, in that it is laminated. Some people pooh pooh this, but I like the looks, and have never had any problem with it. So, if you get this guitar, I think you will like it..........except for one thing.........After a year and a half, my frets wore out big time. In 45 years of playing, I have NEVER worn out the frets on any guitar, or even come close. Yahdah, yahdah, I won't bother repeating the whole story. Suffice to say, Martin denied that their guitar had a problem, and would not stand behind their product. My luthier, who is "THE" luthier in a city of 2M people, confirmed to me that Martin will not honor their warranty for any fret issues. It would have been nice to know that up front, and frankly, I would not have bought the guitar if I had known that, since a fret job cost me $400. Considering that I paid $700 for the Martin, I could have bought one hell of a guitar for $1,100. You'd think with all the Martin-playing people who espouse social causes and the rights of the down-trodden underclasses, that Martin might have a conscience, too. Forget it. Martin is just another big company, like the rest of them. I wonder how long it will take them to scream bloody murder and make Amazon take this review down? Until then, Rock On ya'all.
