Epiphone Worn '66 Wilshire Electric Guitar, Worn Black Review

Epiphone Worn '66 Wilshire Electric Guitar, Worn Black
Average Reviews:

I do not recommend buying anything from this seller.
They are the biggest cheaters in town.
When I got the guitar, it was a mess...
It was an open box, fingerprints and smudges all over it.
Obviously, it was a re-boxed return.
And I supposedly bought a "new" guitar.
I can't express how ticked off I was.
I'm sure you would too ...
This is the work of the seller.
But this is just the beginning of the story.
I called and got a RMA number for the return.
It costed $50 to return a "used" guitar sold as "new".
After a month, I noticed that my credit card was not credited for the purchase.
Called and after waiting on the line for a long time and going over hoops, finally got the return.
Wouldn't you expect that once they got the guitar they would credit your card?
Not with this seller.
This seller is not musician's friend, but is musician's biggest nightmare.
Hope nobody gets one.

Normandy ATGWB-RR Archtop Guitar with Bigsby, Powder Coated, Rat-Rod Gray Review

Normandy ATGWB-RR Archtop Guitar with Bigsby, Powder Coated, Rat-Rod Gray
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is great. It has a Graphtech nut and a bigsby. It almost never goes out of tune, even if you use the bigsby! The Rat Rod is also built like a tank. It can stand up to almost anything. If you use the bridge pickup and some OD, you can get amazing rock tones. You can use it for punk, rock, or metal. The neck pickup sounds great for blues. If you roll back the volume slightly on the neck pickup, you can also get amazing jazz tones! It also has a heavy duty kill switch which allows you to switch it off when your not playing for no noise, or do crazy kill switch tricks. The Normandy Rad Rod is a great guitar at a great price. I would recommend it any day.

Ten Reasons to Own a Normandy Guitar
The Look – From the classic arch top curves of the body, to the vintage Bigsby-vibrato tailpiece, to the distinctive rivets front and back, there is simply no other guitar like it.
The Sound – The resonant, aircraft-grade aluminum body produces smooth, warm tones that ring true and long. Sustain is increased significantly when compared to that of a conventional wooden guitar body.
The Feel –The Normandy weighs 8.6-pounds, which is roughly the same (or less) than most other electric guitars. It maintains perfect balance when on a strap, and is so accommodating that you may just be able to go at it all night.
The Durability – This is a deceivingly solid piece of equipment. You may be able to snap the neck, but the body will stand up to the most aggressive punk-inspired outbursts.
The Neck – Our maple-on-maple and rosewood-on-maple necks are shaped close to what you would find on an old-school jazz guitar – not too fat…not too thin.
The Pickups – Normandy Old School-Humbuckers with Alnico 5 magnets are overwound to 12K ohms for higher output, powerful midrange and driving tone.
The Craftsmanship – Normandy Guitars are made one at a time with quality and durability as our foremost concerns; they are built to stand the test of time from one gig to the next.
The Finish – The Chrome guitar is triple-electroplated, the School Bus and Army Green guitars are powder coated using a special baked-on finish and the Candy Apple Metal Flake finishes are far superior to the standard paint, stain, or varnish typically found on guitars. Whatever the color, the appearance will outshine that of any guitar you've ever seen.
The Service – Normandy offers a warranty against defective materials and workmanship for the life of the guitar (check with the vendor for details). Normandy takes pride in every one of their instruments playing its very best right out of the box.
Add it all up – Custom, boutique styling and quality that every player can afford.

I just perchased this guitar for $500, and it was one of the best desicions I have ever made, but if you are prepared to spend 1300 dollars on an Epiphone, I would spend the extra $300 and get a Gibson, but if you find it between 500-900 dollars, buy the Epiphone, it sounds the same as the Gibson, but I wouldn-t spend over $1000 on an Epiphone when the Gibson has a higher resale value and better paint job.

Gibson Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar, Ebony Review

Gibson Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar, Ebony
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I lost all of my electric guitars in Katrina and figured I owe this review to offer shopping suggestions to everyone looking to replace thier guitars. I am a former professional musician and really only play now as a hobby. I decided to replace my Gibson SG that was lost in the flood with the "Rolls Royce" of all guitars: the LP Custom. Here is what I think of it:
Of all the items I have reviewed on Amazon, the LP Custom has to be the most difficult for several reasons. First, since it is a handmade guitar, the buyer should know that no two will be exactly the same. On the same day I bought mine, for example, I noticed that the one right next to it on the wall had a sixth string groove that in the nut that was situated too close to the top of the fretboard. I also played several other custom shop models that had similar quirks, including the Jimmy Page Custom (which has a neck like a Kramer and the body of a Les Paul...yes, it's ridiculous).
Second, because my playing style is hard picking mostly, I don't know if everyone would agree with what I have to say about the action on this guitar, but it was the deciding factor in my selection. The all-black/gold Custom I picked had just a bit more resistance to "digging" than the others I tried (then again, I learned to play on a Sears and Roebuck special). Still, all the LP customs have ebony ("fretless") fretboard wire; and when the action is set right the guitar seems to "play your fingers".
Anyway, assuming that you can find one of these LP customs that has off-the-shelf action that fits YOUR playing style, the sound of the heavy cruiser will take you away. This axe has a 3-ply maple top with a mahogany bottom. You can tell its very high quality wood by the way the strings resonate.
Notes "wobble" and "swell" after being plucked even when the guitar is not plugged in. The sheer weight of the bottom guitar seems to make the neck (which is relatively thin on a basic custom)much more vibrant and responsive than it is on a single slab guitar. Since this tonal quality is coupled with a natural resonation in the ebony fretboard, the player can squeeze every ounce of juice out of a single note. Also, this resonance quality works well to enhance spooked notes in arpaggio sweeps. As as result, the LP custom can be suited out as a digitalized metal cruncher or a acoustic jazz box
The sound quality and feel give the basic LP custom some big plusses. You will also notice a change in your playing prowess from the responsive fretboard. However, there are a few small minuses that first-time high-end guitar buyers should be aware of.
First, the basic Custom is the plug-ugliest looking guitar in the world. There are only 4 color selections (Black, White, Narural and Red). The gold humbuckers on the Black Beauty only seem to make it look gaudy to me. But, again this is subjective.
Second, the basic customs come equipped with standard Gibson Alnico Humbuckers. Although these pups blow doors on most humbuckers, the clarity of the 3rd and 4th strings tends to get buried when the guitar is phased and flanged through a tube amp and there is a low note ringing. I'm going to try putting in a burstbucker to solve this.
Another obvious drawback to the guitar is the weight. Playing this guitar standing without staplocks is crazy. It is killing my lower back. If you're going to gig with this axe, drink plenty whiskey and take some cortizone. I suppose this is another price to pay for that solid mahogany sustain and tone!
In retrospect, I love this axe, but wish that I would have looked harder at the Les Paul Custom Class 5. I've heard they are about a thousand more, but I didn't come across one in any stores. Those come in many different colors and are outfitted with burstbuckers off the shelf. Also, they have chambered mahogany bodies that are supposed to make them weight-relieved. Still, I wonder if they could achive the same sustain and tone?
Rule #1 is to always make sure you can return the guitar if you find a defect! For the price of this one, you should have perfection!
Regards
Valjean

The introduction of the Les Paul Model in 1952 provided the fundamental template for the design of what would eventually become the most revered stringed instrument in the world. Today's Les Paul Custom is based on the model from the mid-1950s, but with several modern appointments.

The Incomparable Les Paul Custom Guitar
HistoryThe introduction of the Les Paul Model in 1952 provided the fundamental template for the design of what would eventually become the most revered stringed instrument in the world. Yet Gibson president Ted McCarty and the guitar's namesake, Les Paul, also sought to introduce a "deluxe" version of the soon-to-be iconic model. The final design for the new Les Paul Custom was completed in early 1954, and the guitar made its official debut at the Chicago NAMM show in July 1954.
Initially, the goal had been to introduce the "deluxe" version in conjunction with the original 1952 Les Paul, yet Gibson's drive to achieve excellence resulted in several unexpected delays. The final product, however, would eventually become Gibson's top model in the original Les Paul line.
The 'Fretless Wonder' The first version of the Les Paul Custom was nicknamed the "Fretless Wonder" for its low frets and "Black Beauty" for its rich, contrasting ebony color. It was also introduced at the same time as the Gibson Les Paul Junior and represented the ultimate in Gibson solid body design at the time, with an original price tag of just $325, which was $100 more than the regular Les Paul Model.
Aside from its obvious visual enhancements, the Les Paul Custom was the first Gibson guitar to offer the revolutionary ABR-1 Bridge, which was invented by McCarty. This pioneering achievement was a true revelation in intonation and remains one of the most revered and copied pieces of guitar hardware ever developed, setting a standard for simplicity and functionality that has never been bettered.
Other standard appointments included a thicker body design and seven-ply body binding on both the front and back of the guitar, along with a multi-bound headstock that featured a prominent five-piece split diamond patterned inlay of genuine mother of pearl--a design that still graces every Les Paul Custom made today.
Near-perfect Recreation Today's Les Paul Custom is based on the model from the mid-1950s, but with several modern appointments. The body of the guitar is crafted with a hand-carved maple top, which is then fitted to a body made from a solid piece of mahogany with strategically routed holes to lessen the weight of the guitar, resulting in a Les Paul with enhanced acoustic qualities and improved resonance. The 24-3/4 inch scale length neck is also made from one solid piece of mahogany then topped by a 22-fret ebony fingerboard outfitted with figured acrylic block inlays, and given Gibson's traditional rounded profile. The pickups are Gibson's 490R in the neck position, which offers the tonal characteristics of the original PAFs, and the 498T in the bridge position, which swaps the 490R's Alnico II magnet for an Alnico V, thus making it slightly hotter with emphasis on mid-ranges and highs.
Other appointments include Gibson's legendary Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, metal tulip tuners, multi-ply white and black binding on both the top and back, gold hardware, and a 1 11/16" nut width. The Les Paul Custom is available in Antique White, Ebony, Heritage Cherry Sun Burst, Wine Red and Silver Burst, and each guitar comes with the standard Gibson Custom case, custom care kit, and certificate of authenticity.
Nitrocellulose Finish Applying a nitrocellulose finish to any Gibson guitar is one of the most labor-intensive elements of the guitar-making process. A properly applied nitro finish requires extensive man hours, several evenly applied coats, and an exorbitant amount of drying time. But this fact has never swayed Gibson into changing this time-tested method, employed ever since the first Gibson guitar was swathed with lacquer back in 1894. Why? For starters, a nitro finish dries to a much thinner coat than a polyurethane finish, which means there is less interference with the natural vibration of the instrument, allowing for a purer tone. A nitro finish is also a softer finish, which makes it easily repairable. You can touch up a scratch or ding on a nitro finish, but you can't do the same on a poly finish. In addition, a nitro finish is very porous in nature, and actually gets thinner over time. It does not "seal" wood in an airtight shell--as a poly finish does--and allows the wood to breathe and age properly.
All VOS (Vintage Original Spec) series guitars will use a proprietary process that includes unique steps for staining, wet-sanding, and hand-rubbing; subsequently the guitars reflect what a well-cared for 40-year-old guitar looks like. The result is a remarkable patina that will delight even the most discriminating enthusiast.

This guitar is playable out of the box, it's got a heavy/chunky kind of sound, the pick ups are nice, not the greatest but they're good. I loved it as soon as I started playing it. It's one of those guitars that attracts you to play well on it when you pick it up. It's bigger than you'd think, and the silver is beautiful, it's not too heavy, not too light, kind of perfect balance. The fretboard is fast and you'll have no problem going up and down this thing like I95. Did I Mention that it's really attention grabbing? My only qualm with it is that It had a lot of fret buzz when I started playing it but I guess I'll have to break it in.....BUY IT!

The Herb Ellis ES-165 is an amazingly beutiful jazz guitar in sound and appearance. I bought the wine red model, and its looks far surpass the ones in the photos. The action is perfect, as they are professionally set up by the Gibson Custom guitar advisors. This premium instrument has the tone you come to expect from Gibson. I play it through a little Fender amp, which delivers the warm, and at the same time, crisp, clean tone.
They're certainly not cheap, by any means... but worth every penny!!!

Schecter Omen 6 Electric Guitar- Red Review

Schecter Omen 6 Electric Guitar- Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While not the color I was yearning for (I like the white), the price being almost $100 less than what it is in stores locally really twisted my arm. The intonation is nearly perfect, shouldn't take too much adjustment to get going, as well as the action being just about perfect out of the box. Having an injury a few years ago I'm sensitive to ergonomics and this is much more comfortable to play than my previous guitar and the basswood body's lightness is a feature (it really is light) and the finish came free of any blemish.
The pickups sound pretty average to my ear, but that is to be expected on an entry level guitar. While some will obsess over what woods create the best tones and neck through aids sustain I'll be gladly spending the money I saved on a set of awesome pickups (thinking Seymour-Duncan P-Rails with some coil splitting) and a copy of Guitar Rig 4.

This guitar is among one of the best I have played. I was looking at Takamine,Taylors, and Martins. I was looking to spend about 800-900 dollars for a good guitar. With the big three models, I did not see the kind of sound I wanted. One of my friends at a local shop told me about it. The sound of this guitar is so bright, you dont get the heavy buzz off the low "E" string. The natural finsh that I have has stayed pure and clean. The neck is thinner for better playability, and I cannot seem to put this guitar down. If you are in the market for a Good Guitar that plays better than it costs , get it!
It's sound really rivals the others. Alvarez has put through one of their best midline products I have seen in years. It works for when I play venues or at home. I am sold on Alvarez products for life!

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing for around 9 years now, this guitar is one of my favorite guitars to play. It has smooth action and playability. The paint job is amazing more over the green and blue paint jobs. Its comfortable for sitdown play for me. (I play with the bridge joint resting on my leg.) The pick ups are very nice... They are dimarzio, would you expect anything less from them? The edge tremolo is very nice the smoothness of a khaler but the action of a floyd rose! All in all if you are into metal or hard rock music this guitar is a perfect choice.

With a deep double-cutaways, 4-fin body shape and beveled edges, it's also comfortable to play. Chameleon finishes change colors with the light. Two DiMarzio U.S.A made pickups provide tons of clear, powerful tone, and an Edge III bridge combined with a locking nut gives you killer dive bombing without the intonation hassles. Sharktooth inlays and top-shelf hardware complete the look.

This was my Christmas present to myself last year & my wife is jealous. She is tired of me saying "I love this guitar"! Read all the reviews that I could find online and when I went to the 2 local music stores (SA & GC) they didn't have any to play, so I bought without playing. Since it arrived, it has lived up to everything I've read. Right out of the box the appearance is rich with the gold tuners, pearl inlays (I have the sunburst finish). The sound is beatiful, warm, sustaining...and with the hole cover & A.R.T. system, I can plug into the amp & not worry about feedback. Use to play out quite regularly before the kids, but then took a 10 yr. hiatus. We've gotten 'the band back together' for a few gigs the past yr or so & have some coming up so I can't wait to play this puppy live! The onboard tuner & EQ are sweet and allow me to control everything at the guitar, not having to go back & forth to my amp. I would highly recommend for the money. I've played with the Martins & Taylors in the $1500 range & this is definitely of that class of quality. You won't be disappointed!Yamaha CPX900 Acoustic Electric Guitar, Brown Burst

This bass is incredible, especially because it cost so little compared to other more expensive basses. This bass cost me $120.00,and I even had enough money to buy a case for it all in one order.Being left handed,I ordered a left handed bass. That way my knobs and cord jack is on the bottom as normal. However,I play a bass with the E string on the bottom,in other words I play a right handed bass upsidedown. So I have to have a new nut put on the headstock and the strings switched around for my unique playing style. My previous bass is already switched and I love it.This one here, isn't switched yet but will be soon.I have played on it though and the sound is awesome. Two volume controls and two tone controls, plus two pickups.Headstock is configured two and two so switching is easy.I have the candy apple red and it looks awesome. The body is as a P bass, but the little horn to me,seems to be smaller which I like.I reccommend this bass right handed or left handed to anyone that wants a good quality bass for a fraction of the cost of the expensive ones.

After having just recorded with this guitar, I still can't decide if it is more beautiful to listen to or to look at... the pictures simply do not do it justice, this is an absolutely beautiful combination of super cool design and solid workmanship, but the sounds it can make are just as breath-taking. Much warmer and fuller than other Gretsch hollowbodys when playing jazz, but able to stand up and shout like a Gretsch on blues or rock when it needs to.
In one word this is a "keeper," an instant family heirloom that your grandkids some day will be inspired to learn to rock it like their old man's old man!!
(at least that is what I'm hoping for)

In celebration of the 125th anniversary of Gretsch and a legacy that has lasted five decades, the tradition of the "anniversary" model continues. To commemorate this historic event, a very special instrument was created that is sure to be an instant classic. Combining time-tested Gretsch elements from the past with new features, the 125th Anniversary model has an ultra-rare Jaguar Tan top, with metallic gold back and sides. The body is made of three-play laminated maple for the utmost resonance and tone. Two key individuals in the Gretsch story recently designed a new scalloped bracing specifically voiced for Gretsch guitars. The new "ML" bracingwhich stands for Gretsch guitar designers Masao Terada and Mike Lewismakes its debut on the 125th "Annie". This construction synchronizes the vibration of the top and back, with increased acoustical openness in tone. Accentuating the tone of the new ML bracing are a pair of TV Jones PowerTron pickups, pinned rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic bridge and a Bigsby B6C vibrato tailpiece. Fender FB-54 Banjo, Natural Review

Fender FB-54 Banjo, Natural

I love the Fender FB-54 Banjo, from the stand point of look, feel & the sound is great. The one draw back for me personally is the width of the neck at the top. It is a little narrow for my fat fingers. I'm having trouble fretting the second string & getting free vibration of the first & third. If anyone knows of a banjo that has a wider finger board I'd love to know about it. I think I'd keep the Fender any way, but I might consider a second banjo to learn on.

There's been a huge resurgence in bluegrass over the past several years, perhaps simply because people are realizing that there's a uniquely American sound to the genre. Whatever the reason, banjos are experiencing a huge surge in popularity. The FB-54 is Fender's entry-level banjo, but it has features you'd expect in a much more expensive model-especially the mahogany resonator and neck, 27.4" scale, aluminum rim, rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlay and chrome-covered tuners.
