The Dean Razorback 255 electric guitar features a Mahogany body with a flamed maple top. The Razorback electric guitar also features a mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard. Grover tuners and a locking tremolo keep you in perfect tune for extended dive-bombing. 24 fast frets facilitate wicked, shredding solos and lightning quick chord changes. 3-way switching, volume and tone control keep things simple, yet tonally flexible, and with tons of presence. Two powerful EMG humbuckers: the EMG-81 in the bridge position provides higher output for overdriven, screaming leads with tons of sustain, and the EMG-85 in the neck position gives a beefy low end and fatter top, great for rhythm and blues.Being a Dean guitar, the Razorback 255 looks as good as it sounds. Dangerous-looking edges are highlighted by color-contrast bevels on the body and outlines on the famous Dean headstock. Dimebag Darrell Abbott's return to Dean Guitars was one of the many things cut far too short by his death near the end of 2004, but his many drawings and ideas have kept the guitar makers at Dean inspired. These Razorback 255s were some of Darrell's final designs, and we're sure they will inspire you, too.

Hartke HX410 HyDrive Bass Guitar Amplifier Cabinet Review

Hartke HX410 HyDrive Bass Guitar Amplifier Cabinet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got everything I could have expected from purchasing this 410 cab. It sounds excellent, looks great, is compact and weighs only 70lbs so is easy for one person to load, and the price was very attractive. As I knew from reading other reviews the vinyl covering is thin. Carpet would be nicer or an available cover to keep it looking good. It does look like it means business. It will be interesting to see how the speakers wear over time as it has to be a tricky thing to merge aluminum and paper. Also how well the chrome corners and handles resist weathering and rust. I think I could do without the recessed fittings on top of the cab that are there to allow the stacking of two 410s with the casters in place. I would rather have a flat top as these interfere when placing the head on the cab. It would be better to have large rubber pads on the bottom and remove the casters for stacking.
I am a long time player (35 yrs.) in a working cover band that plays several weekends per month so the size and weight were big issues. I have an LH500 amp and today bought the LH1000. My other cab is a 115 loaded with a JBL 2226H speaker. The two of them together will be great outdoors. Previously I have owned older Hartke, Trace Elliot, GK and SWR amps as well as a Goliath 410. I highly recommend anyone considering a 410 purchase to buy this cab.

For the money, this bass is fantastic. The Squier name is really getting better. The fit and finish are smooth, clean and classic. The action arrived perfect. A quick tune up. play around with the control knobs, and just absolutely love it. Lots of tonal capability, comfortable weight balance, beautiful finish. What more can you ask for? Maybe a HMV bridge. maybe an owners manual would be great. Came with nothing but the box.

G&L USA ASAT Electric Bass (Four String, Tinted Gloss Hard Rock Maple Neck) Review

GandL USA ASAT Electric Bass (Four String, Tinted Gloss Hard Rock Maple Neck)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It took me a little while to adjust to this bass, and initially I would give the sound and 5 but the playability a three or four. However, I was coming from a Japanese Aria with a thin neck that could really just shred. After getting used to the dynamic electronics of the G&L, adjusting the setup, and outfitting the bass with Elixir Super Lights, it's a joy to play. It's still chunkier than some European basses (seems most American basses are) but it's rock solid and has incredible sustain. It will make cheap amps sound expensive and expensive amps sound like gold. I keep away from the active option, but if you need extra punch and brightness, punch up the onboard EQ. One design gripe that I don't have to deal with since I never use the active electronics: no easy-to-open battery case. You've got to unscrew the whole back plate, so be god and don't strip the screws.
I highly recommend this bass. It plays above its price point and still provides a classic sound that I never hear from boutique basses. I say all of this having played (and loved) Ibanez SDGRs, Yamaha Stages, Warwick Corvettes (still have a fretless Std.), and OLPs as well as the Aria Pro I mentioned earlier.
The finish is great, the fit is well-crafted, and if you're still wondering, check out Harmony Central's discussion.

I normally use this guitar as a acoustic, rather than an "electric/acoustic". It sounds just as good as a normal acoustic, but without that bulky fat body. It's thin, so it's a lot easier to play, and the tuning heads are nice and loose, but not so loose that the fall off. It also works nice for electric guitar, but I haven't really tried that often. Overall, this guitar is a nice buy for $500.

BLACK ELECTRIC GUITAR Review

BLACK ELECTRIC GUITAR
Average Reviews:

I have one of these LI15 guitars. It was purchased in a packaged that was dented and bruised. Out of the box, the guitar had great action and horrible amplification. It took some electronic technician skills to remove a short in the guitar controls and two soldering flaws in the amp. Once done, this was a professional instrument. Its string action is better than guitars costing twice as much. My guess is that this is produced on the same line as the Washburn WI15.
Maybe the need for the extra work should have caused it to rate a lilttle less than 5 stars. But it's fixed and I feel as if I have a real bargain now.

Crate CA120DG Durango Acoustic Guitar Amplifier - 120 Watts RMS, Automatic Feedback Elimination Review

Crate CA120DG Durango Acoustic Guitar Amplifier - 120 Watts RMS, Automatic Feedback Elimination
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This amplifier sounds amazing with my acoustic guitar, and like the other reviewer stated, it is really nice to have two low-z (balanced) inputs and two high-z (unbalanced) inputs. It even has a balanced output on the back, and the rca inputs are a sweet feature.
The DSP Effects are on both channels and can even have different effects on the fly. Just use the included three switch pedal and check out the instruction manual to learn how to use different effects for each channel.
The tweeter cut is a really nice feature, allowing you to decide how much of the high fidelity tweeter you want in the mix with the 12" woofer.
Other than all the great technical aspects of the amp, I really like the organic look of it, and I got a really nice surprise when I realized that there is a "kickstand" on the bottom of the cabinet that allows you to angle the amp upward. That was a really cool, unexpected feature.
If you play acoustic, and you want to hear your guitar come ALIVE, and you want an amp that will accurately reproduce the bass tones of your guitar along with clean, accurate vocals and a great effects system... well, here it is. I couldn't recommend it more. CRATE!

Click Here to see more reviews about: Crate CA120DG Durango Acoustic Guitar Amplifier - 120 Watts RMS, Automatic Feedback Elimination

When you need to send the perfect acoustic signal to the front-of-house mixer, the Crate CA120DG can get you there in style. With features like XLR & 1/4" balanced line out (with Level control and ground lift), Tweeter Level control, Effects Loop, and footswitch accessible Reverb/Effects and Chorus switching, it's easy to see why the Crate CA120DG is the leader in its class.
Designed for the performing artist, CA120DG's 120 watt power amp drives the internal 12" polypropylene woofer/piezo tweeter combination to outstanding volume levels, providing both low end punch and superb top-end fidelity. And since volume without tone just doesn't cut it, the CA120DG provides two separate channels, each with its own gain, EQ, and reverb/effects controls. Crate's built-in feedback filters make feedback a thing of the past, effectively killing feedback without sacrificing sound quality. We've even included the footswitch for hands-free operation of the feedback filters.

The CA120DG also features Crate's stunning DSP effects, including short and medium Slapback Delays, Echo, Chorus, Rotary Speaker, Chorus (with Hall Reverb), and two distinct Reverb modes. These effects were designed specifically for use with acoustic instruments and vocals.

Whether you need the perfect acoustic guitar amp, or a self-contained PA system with digital effects and feedback control, the Crate CA120DG is all about tone, control, and flexibility.

Why is it so hard to amplify an acoustic guitar? By its very nature, an acoustic instrument requires lots of feedback control, especially when it's asked to compete with drums and a stage full of rockers. And although most amps can effectively control feedback, they often do so by severely sacrificing tone for volume.

Our CA Series amps give you all the tone and features necessary to put your acoustic sound on top of the mix, whether you're soloing at the Opry or strummin' at the coffeehouse. With its unparalleled balance of clarity, power, natural tone, and intuitive controls, the Crate Acoustic Series remains our most widely endorsed amp line. Try one and you'll see why.

Ibanez Soundgear SR300 Bass Guitar - Roadster Orange Metallic Review

Ibanez Soundgear SR300 Bass Guitar - Roadster Orange Metallic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I simply cannot figure out how Ibanez puts out a bass of this quality for such a low price.
A little fiddling right out of the box got the action low and smooth. The shape of the neck makes playing effortless. The 3 band onboard eq dials in almost any sound you need without having to go back and fiddle with the amp. The Roadster Orange finish is so much better in person than in the photos, the active pickups sound wonderful, and, a boon to all us gigging musicians, it's light.
I started playing bass in High School. I'm 51 now, and have owned almost every type of bass at one point or another. P Bass, couple of Jazz Basses, Yamahas, Peaveys, A Gibson, couple other Ibanez's, and this is the one I'm sticking with.
For a decade the Jazz Bass was my main stage axe, and I used to carry a phony Hofner as a backup. I'd usually pick it up somewhere in the second set to give my shoulder a break. I am seriously considering buying another one of these for my backup and leaving everything else at home.
For us working class players who simply can't afford a Ric 4003 or the Alembic of their dreams, this bass will fill the bill. At this price, you simply can't go wrong.

Breedlove Alpine OF Master Class Mandolin, Made in U.S.A. Review

Breedlove Alpine OF Master Class Mandolin, Made in U.S.A.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Howdy folks. Nice to see you can buy one of these top-end mandolins off Amazon these days, but I do have some extended comments:
I'm a professional economist and a mandolin player of over 20 years' experience.
Lemme talk about economics first. There's something in microeconomics called "price discrimination." This means that producers use sneaky means to find out which of their customers might be willing to pay a higher price for essentially the same good, so that they can charge those guys more.
A good example of this would be the difference between the home version of Windows and the professional version. I think there's very few people who could state how exactly the professional version differs from the standard home version, but still, when you've got money to spend and you're setting up your new computer, you wanna buy "the best."
Now let's talk about Breedlove mandos.
Breedlove is widely regarded as the best American-based manufacturer of mandolins currently in mass production. They're fine instruments, of that there is no doubt.
But the question at hand is whether one should one plop down thousands for their higher-end, "Master Class" models (such as the one on this page, the Breedlove Alpine), or whether the Breedlove Quartz OF Mandolin, Made in U.S.A., for example, is enough for you? Nobody wants to spend a ton of money unnecessarily, even if you are loaded.
Now, I had been aching to play a Breedlove Alpine ever since reading the supremely mando-knowledgeable "Mickey" at Folk of the Wood (in New Mexico) declare it to be the best mandolin currently being produced (in a post I cannot currently locate).
But worried about paying too much for a difference that really wouldn't be worth it, I emailed the company with my question. I wanted to know what justified the huge difference in price between their lower-end but still excellent models, and their higher-end models.
I wrote: "I've had my eye on a Breedlove for some time now. But there's something I'd like a straight answer on. Breedlove has what they call a "Master Class" of mandolin, such as their Alpine. I've been wanting a really nice mandolin, but didn't buy an Alpine because I want to avoid the bright tone of the f-models. I need something a little more full and haunting for Celtic music. Anyhow . . . what I don't understand is what exactly is meant by "Master Class." Is that just a bunch of fancy gold trimmings and stuff on the headstock, or is there a significant difference in the wood, the finishing, the playability, etc. of the instrument? I'm looking for a comfortable, playable instrument but don't really care what it looks like as there's certainly no one out here to watch me play. So is Breedlove's "Master Class" just a cosmetic thing?"
This is from their snarky reply: "The finest woods, appointments and attention to detail goes into our Master Class models. IE: out of 500 pieces of wood we might find 50 that will make it to a Quartz Series Mandolin. Of that 50, only 2 or 3 will be Master Class Quality. Does that make sense to you?"
I was not satisfied with this reply, as I don't believe the phrase "the finest woods" can quite justify four grand (or whatever). But I remained determined to own a Breedlove.
Months passed. Then, one August, I found myself in a mandolin speciality store that I learned had a Breedlove as well as one of their "lesser" models -- a Quartz KO.
Wrapping a bandana over my head, I took the Pepsi challenge. I had a friend bring me both mandolins, which I played blindfolded for about 15 minutes, not knowing which was which. The point was to see if I could tell the difference from the sound alone.
Folks, for the life of me, I was not able to tell the difference. Remember I've been playing for a couple of decades.
Sure, when I took the blindfold off, the Alpine immediately struck me as more visually elegant, but in terms of the sound, I was not able to discern a difference in timbre, tone, resonance, clarity, etc. Admittedly, once the blindfold was off, the Alpine suddenly "sounded" better, but I had demonstrated this was just my mind playing tricks with me.
I know they say when you're buying an instrument you should splurge for the best you can afford.
But I am the proud and happy owner of one of their "lesser" jobs: the Quartz. It's all I need.

This guitar is very well designed & built, it is a pleasure to hold & to hear & getting better by the day. The finish may be a bit on the heavy side & a small finish imperfection on the inner part of the sound hole is the only thing that could be perceived as a flaw. To me it is just a "beauty mark". I really enjoyed playing this bass for about 2 weeks. The setup was good out of the box, even though there was a little buzzing. Yet after 2 weeks of playing I noticed a dead spot on the fretboard. I took it to a music store, and the tech was able to spot it right away. The fretboard was not level, it had a bad dip in it around the second fret, near the bottom. That is why the g string would not play properly in that position.(Or when the bass was setup correct, not at all!) Great bass, yet the model I had was flawed. Thankfully Amazon has a good return policy. If you buy this, just make sure the fretboard is level.
