Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherry Review

Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A lot of guitar players buy guitar after guitar working their way up to the upper line models. Why not save money and buy one from the start. I had a low end Gibson Epiphone for about 10 years. I've been saving my money for a while and then finally I decided to get something nice. My reasoning for picking the SG over the Les Paul, or even a nice Strat or Ibanez, was that some of my favorite bands play with SG's. I dont know if it's the best or not, I'll probably never know because I'll never buy another guitar again(except a rickenbacker 330 oneday:) ).
The guitar itself seems a masterpiece to me. I'm no Guitar Tech but I've been told that since Gibson and many other companies moved away from handcrafted to maching made instruments that the quality just isnt the same. In spite of that the guitar seems flawless to me. I've been told by a Tech that there is a slight bend on my fretboard on the low E side and on the hight E side it is perfectly straight, and that would keep me from attaining perfect toneality and action in the neck and strings. Another Tech told me it didnt matter that much... I dunno. It seems gr8 to me.
Besides that my skills have really increased since buying this Guitar, just the excitment of owning such a fine piece of equipment had cause me to spend more time playing and practicing a lot. Also it is so easy to play, everything from the action to the sound, the fretboard is extremely accessable esp at the bottom of the neck. This guitar is a joy to play. If you want an SG go for the Standard or higher. Dont go for the lower models.

Gibson's best-selling SG Standard shatters all perceptions of what an electric guitar can--and should--be. The slim, lightweight mahogany body; unmistakable twin cutaways, pointed horns and beveled edges; the fastest neck in the business; a pair of Gibson's screamin' humbucker pickups--all irresistible features coveted by some of the greatest guitar players of all-time. Various SG models have been played on-stage by the likes of Pete Townshend, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Robby Krieger, Chris Robinson, Alex Lifeson, Derek Trucks, Elliot Easton, Jim James, Jeff Tweedy, Moby, Keith Urban, Nick Jonas, Rocco DeLuca. When will you add your name?

A New Classic for Rocking Through the Twenty-First Century
Available FinishesTake your pick between two gorgeous, time-honored finishes--Heritage Cherry or Ebony--both of which are applied by hand in a process that demands several coats and many hours. Unlike a lot of of our competitors, who settle for a polyurethane finish, Gibson opts for a nitrocellulose finish that will encourage the natural vibration of the instrument for a purer tone. In addition, a nitro finish is very porous and actually gets thinner over time. That way your guitar's wood can breathe and age beautifully.
Exquisite Mother-of Pearl and Acrylic Inlays Among other key distinctions, the SG Standard stands out from its no-frills kid sister, the SG Special, because of the fine mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and holly inlays that decorate its headstock. The SG Standard also boasts figured acrylic trapezoid inlays along its rosewood fingerboard.
'50s Rounded Neck Profile No guitar neck profiles are more distinguishable than the neck profiles employed on the Gibson models of today. The more traditional '50s neck profile--found on the SG Standard--is the thicker, rounder, more time-honored profile, emulating the neck shapes of the iconic late '50s Gibson models. The neck is machined in Gibson's rough mill using wood shapers to make the initial cuts. But once the fingerboard gets glued on, the rest--including the final sanding--is done by hand. That means there are no two necks with the exact same dimensions. So while it still has the basic characteristics of its respective profile, each neck will be slightly different, with a distinct but traditional feel.
Set-Neck Construction Like all classic Gibson guitars, the necks on Les Pauls and SGs are distinguished by one of the more traditional features that have always set them apart--a glued neck joint. Gluing the neck to the body of the guitar ensures a "wood-to-wood" contact, no air space in the neck cavity, and maximum contact between the neck and body, allowing the neck and body to function as a single unit. The result? Better tone, better sustain, and no loose or misaligned necks.
Gibson's 490R AND 498T Pickups The mid to late 1960s saw the emergence of a very different type of music coming from the clubs of England. This new genre's players were demanding more powerful amplifiers with increased volume outputs to satisfy their sonic explorations. This led to a call for a more versatile pickup, and Gibson answered the call with the 490T and 490R pickups ("T" for treble, and "R" for rhythm), humbuckers with the tonal characteristics of an original PAF, but with a slight increase in upper mid-range response. The Gibson 498T bridge pickup is the 490's ideal complement. Taking the 490 one step further, the 498 swaps the Alnico II magnet to an Alnico V, thus making it slightly hotter with emphasis on mid-ranges and highs. The pole pieces on the 498T are also aligned a little further apart to accommodate the spacing of the strings at the bridge, which is different than the spacing of the strings at the neck.
Solid Mahogany Body Probably the most central of all SG features is its solid mahogany body. The mahogany goes through the same rigorous selection process as all of Gibson's woods, and is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson's team of skilled wood experts before it enters the factories. Inside the Gibson factories, humidity is maintained at 45 percent, and the temperature at 70 degrees. This ensures all woods are dried to a level of "equilibrium," where the moisture content does not change during the manufacturing process. This guarantees tight-fitting joints and no expansion, and controls the shrinkage and warping of the woods, in addition to reducing the weight. It also improves the woods' machinability and finishing properties. Consistent moisture content means that the SG will respond evenly to temperature and humidity changes long after it leaves the factory.

Dean Razorback Guitar, Dimebag Classic Black with Case Review

Dean Razorback Guitar, Dimebag Classic Black with Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i bought this just about over a month ago and i am fairly pleased with it. It is a good sounding guitar with decent pickups (that you can always change if you dont like). this is my first guitar so the name (dean) didnt realy mean much to me, i was just more concerned about the quality. overall for the price, the quality is pretty good. there are somethings that i found are poorly made ie. when i replaced the strings i noticed that on the back of the guitar are the holes for the strings to be fed through and they had these little plastic cuplets in the holes to keep the strings from feeding through the wood on the guitar, well dean couldnt have just glued them in cause that would just be too easy so now when you change the strings you have to make sure that you dont loose them. other than that, not too many complaints on it yet. the guitar looks amazing and the volume and control knobs look really cool too. very nice case too. it is definitally a fun guitar to play and i am happy i purchased it..oh and also it IS a fingerprint magnet so you might want to purchase a cloth rag with the guitar.

This Razorback DB Floyd is the least expensive of the Razorback models. With its aggressive style and graphics, it screams "metal," and backs it up with fast action, high-output pickups, a Floyd Rose locking tremelo system, and plenty of access to upper frets.

Dime ItThe late great Dimebag Darrell is a serious metal guitar hero, and Dean's series of Dimebag models pays homage. Dimebag started playing Dean ML style guitars in the late '70s, and made it one of the most recognizable shapes today. Dean offers a wide variety of Dimebag models to choose from, all boasting Dimebag's distinctive look and tons of mojo and attitude.

Basswood BodyThe Dimeblade features a lightweight basswood body. Basswood is great for heavier rock and metal styles, delivering a nice even tone that feeds a dirt pedal (or a dimed Marshall) nicely.

Of course what's really striking about the body is the wicked custom finish. Dimebag and his signature are portrayed, along with his trademark razor necklace, over green lightning graphics.

Bolt-On ConstructionBolt-on neck construction provides an affordable alternative to set-neck or thru-body designs. The advantage of this design is that if you do have any neck trouble down the line, you can easily replace it.

The DB's maple neck features an ultra-playable 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, withcustom arrow inlays and a DB razor inlay at the 12th fret.

Dean Humbucker PickupsTo capture the biting tones of vintage Deans, the company includes two of its standard humbuckers, which provide more than enough bite for modern styles, along with plenty of low-end and midrange definition. The standard three-way selector allows bridge, neck, or a combination. Each pickup gets a volume pot, and they share the tone control.

Grover TunersIf you play guitar then you know what this means--solid, dependable tuning from the industry standard. These tuning machines are a triumph in engineering and style, with a gear ratio of 14:1, perfect gear meshing, and zero backlash and slippage. The gear box has a special lubricant for lifetime, trouble-free service.
Tune-o-Matic BridgeThe '79's Tune-o-Matic bridgewith string-thru body design provides even more sustain, along with precise intonation for your tuning preference. The classic v-shaped plate mirrors the headstock wings for some nice vintage Dean style.

DBD Traction KnobsDimebag always rocked his "traction knobs," which he created by taking a soldering iron to them, for knobs that are grippable no matter how much sweat's pouring off you on stage. Dean faithfully recreates that here.

Voyage-Air Songwriter Series VAOM-04 Folding Orchestra Model Acoustic Guitar Review

Voyage-Air Songwriter Series VAOM-04 Folding Orchestra Model Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First impressions when I opened this up were, "meh.. its kinda plane lookin." I figured that this was going to be a risky purchase and was fully expecting to return it because surely it couldn't live up to my expectations of sound, intonation, playability and feel. When I first set the neck and tuned it, I was sure that the fret edges would be sharp or that I would feel the crack where the neck goes together. WRONG and WRONG! The fret work is professionally done and I tried for the life of me to feel the seam where the two meet up, but to my amazement I felt nothing. Well that all went better than expected but surely it wont have good intonation up the fretboard, I mean this is meant as a traveling instrument and not a professional guitar and sacrifices had to be made right?... WRONG AGAIN!
I soon realized that my skepticism was all misplaced. As I stopped critiquing and actually started playing it.. holy cow. This thing resonates and responds better than a Martin OM-42 that I paid over 4 grand for! I am simply stunned that a guitar I bought so I could have a practice tool on vacations would turn out to be one of, if not the best playing instrument I have. I'd say that this guitar is the real deal but that would be a major understatement. For the price this guitar is listed at (four hundred ninety nine dollars) I am blown away. This guitar plays better than anything in its price range. The only reason I even contemplated sending it back was to buy the more expensive models. If this thing plays like a two thousand dollar guitar... I can't imagine what the others sound like.
If you're considering this guitar but have reservations, then buy it now because this thing will impress you!

Taylor Guitars 110e, Dreadnought, Solid Sitka Spruce, Sapele Back/Sides, ES-T Review

Fast shipping. Excellent sound although the finish on higher models is better if youre into that. Just a no nonsense guitar that sounds great and looks okay. You can spend hundreds more for the same guitar with a better finish in the 200 series.

The 110e's full-voiced tone can now be amplified with the Taylor ES-T transducer pickup. This solid spruce top Dreadnought truly delivers the Taylor experience.

The Taylor 100 Series Tone and playability are hallmarks of Taylor guitars, and you'll find the 100 Series delivers plenty of each. Sporting a solid Sitka spruce top and sapele laminate back and sides, the redesigned 100 Series now features both Dreadnought and Grand Auditorium shapes, along with cutaway and Taylor electronics options. Value, yes. Compromise, no.
Sitka Spruce Top Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) grows in a coastal "pocket" from Northern California to Alaska. This dense, straight-grained wood has the highest strength and elasticity-to-weight ratio among available tonewoods, an attribute that makes it an ideal material not only for our soundboards, but for our internal bracing, as well. Sitka produces a slightly brighter tone than does Engelmann.
Sapele Laminate Back/SidesThis exceptional, mahogany-like wood grows throughout the tropical rain forests of Nigeria and the Ivory Coast of Africa. Ever since we introduced it in 1998, its legion of fans has grown exponentially. As a tonewood, it's denser and harder than mahogany, so it has a crisper, clearer, brighter, "pop"-ier sound than its more familiar counterpart. Loud and robust, with a lovely ribboned grain, sapele has been used by Spanish guitar makers for many years.
Varnish FinishA durable varnish finish offers protection, good looks, and a smooth feel to the touch. The spruce top's beauty shines right through.
Dreadnought Body ShapeThe original Dreadnought acoustic guitar appeared early in the 20th Century, and its no-frills, no-nonsense shape made it a logical namesake of the huge battleships of that day. Most subsequent Dreadnoughts, including Taylor's, have been derivative of that early design. In 1997, however, Bob Taylor re-designed the Taylor Dreadnought by softening the curves at the top and bottom and generally refining its overall shape. In 2003, gloss-finish Dreadnoughts also underwent bracing refinements that substantially increased their overall volume and bass response, without sacrificing Taylor's signature balance and clarity. Dreadnought six-strings shine as "plectrum" or "rhythm" guitars because they respond well to flatpicking or light-to-heavy strumming.
ES-T Pickup Inspired by Taylor's Expression System technology, the Expression System Transducer, or ES-T, is a single-source, under-saddle transducer with individual elements for each string. (The ES-T was originally called the ES Element, but the name was changed to avoid confusion with another product.) The ES-T has an onboard preamp and the same active controls found on the full Expression System. Featuring a custom-voiced EQ and dynamic response, the system is powered by a 9-volt battery, with a battery life LED power indicator (which is lit when the battery is being used). The pickup also has a Phase switch for feedback control, which is located on the preamp board inside the soundhole.
Chrome-Plate Tuners Taylor Tuners continue the industry-leading 18:1 gear ratio that they've been using, yet yield even greater precision with the help of a manufacturing process that employs the same gear-cutting machines used by Swiss watchmakers. The more precisely-machined gears virtually eliminate the slight "slop", or slack, typical among tuners, which makes it even easier for Taylor owners to get--and stay--in tune. Taylor Tuners also feature an elegant aesthetic touch, with the Taylor logo cleanly etched on the back.

Dean's X Series offers some of Dean's most popular body styles--the ML, V, and Z--at an affordable price. But they don't skimp on components, with a pair of high-output Dean humbuckers, Grover tuners, a Tune-o-Matic bridge. Dean style and dependability are an added bonus. Left-handed model.

The Dean X SeriesThe Dean X Series offers ML, V and Z style guitars at a price that won't break the bank. These guitars feature maple necks, rosewood fretboards, dual humbuckers, and plenty of Dean mojo, and are built to rock--perfect for beginners and veterans alike.

Basswood BodyThe MLX features a lightweight basswood body. Basswood is great for heavier rock and metal styles, delivering a nice even tone that feeds a dirt pedal (or a dimed Marshall) nicely.

Dean Humbucker PickupsTo capture the biting tones of vintage Deans, the company includes two of its standard humbuckers, in black-and-white "zebra" style for looks as good as the sounds. And what to expect tonally? These pickups should provide more than enough bite for modern styles, along with plenty of low-end and midrange definition. The Squier Tele custom is amazing value for money. The neck is smooth and straight as a die, the frets are even and it is, like all telecasters, a pleasure to play. The sound is somewhat like an SG but twangy, certainly more ballsy and fat than a standard telecaster. If you are into blues, this is a great guitar to have in your collection. It looks, feels and sounds like a much more expensive instrument.

This is an amazingly rocking little guitar at a very attractive price. I've owned one for about a year and have used it for doing home recordings and the guitar never fails to surprise me with the quality of tones I get out of it. Don't expect this to give you the classic twangy Tele sound as it has Duncan-designed P-90 humbucker pickups so it's more suited for rock than the standard Tele country-style sound, although it could be used for that as well. If you can't decide which Squier Tele to choose, go with this one...I don't think you'll be disappointed. For the money, you really can't go wrong because you can get tones out of this guitar rivaling instruments costing 4 times the price. Can't believe no one's reviewed it here before now!

This is my second Traveler Guitar, my first was an MK-II Steel. While I have enjoyed the MK-II w/ piezo pickups, I was desperate for the same guitar with a humbucker and the EG-1 is it. The Traveler EG-1 Mahogany Satin Red is lighter in weight than the MK-II, but with a humbucker it handles a heavier sound. Now I have options when I travel - the acoustic electric MK-II or a pure electric EG-1. The travel cases are awesome!
The EG-1 has great pickups, great action and with a Line 6 Pocket Pod for on the go, I have everything I need!
Minor issue: 1. A heavier duty 3-position switch - it is a little on the small side and I fear if anything might "give" during travel it will be the switch.

Dean Razorback Guitar, Dimebag Bolt On with Floyd Rose Classic Black Review

Let's joke a little. If you're in a metal band and you want to look good, buy this guitar. Everybody will look at as if you're the new best thing since sliced bread. If you're playing with another guitar player in the band, every time you make a mistake just look the way the other guy and everybody will think it's the other guy's mistake.
A little bit more serious. This guitar looks good. That's the way it was designed. But it also sounds goood! I was a little bit skeptical at first but after testing thoroughly I must admit the damm thing sounds good. I am thinking about upgrading it with EMG pickups, but I'm still hesitant, because it sounds so good. I'm gonna play it a little bit longer before I make up my mind.

Floyd Rose Special TremoloThe patented and often imitated double-locking design of the Floyd Rose tremolo allows you to lock your guitar in tune at the nut and at the bridge. Engineered like no other tremolo system, the Floyd's high-quality steel parts are manufactured to exacting specifications. Beat it up as much as you want--from traditional vibrato to dive bombing leads or flapping loose strings, and stay in tune while you do it.
DBD Traction KnobsDimebag always rocked his "traction knobs," which he created by taking a soldering iron to them, for knobs that are grippable no matter how much sweat's pouring off you on stage. Dean faithfully recreates that here.

Fender T-BUCKET-300CE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Flame Maple Top, Transparent Black Review

This guitar is beautiful. The sound is great. It did require a little love and care prior to playing. THere was a shim left under the bridge, and it rocked a little, causing the E strings to play a little quieter than the others. The nut is plastic, and the spacing was a little off, but not by much. For the money this guitar is definitely worth it. If I didn't know any better I would think this guitar was perfect, but I have a friend that works on guitars and he did a few minor adjustments that made this guitar play like some of the guitars I have played that cost in the thousands...definitely a good buy. And the sound is not compromised by the 4 inch thick body...It sounds great.
