I just received my ROS-627 from Amazon.
In case anybody was curious, these come with no case. They are shipped double-boxed, and mine arrived in good shape. The only contents of the inner box was a guitar and an Allen wrench for truss rod adjustments.
These guitars are inspired by Martin designs, so they will be compared to Martin models. In this case, the guitar is a clone of the Martin 000-28VS, and Recording King made a great clone.
I've seen some of the lower-end Recording King offerings, and the ROS-627 is a cut above. The wood quality is top-notch. Tightly grained spruce top with lots of silking and no run-out. (That means the top was cut for optimum strength, and it looks lovely.)
The setup was fine out of the box. Low action at both the nut and the 12th fret. Plenty of saddle for additional adjustment if desired. I loosened the truss rod a bit to add a bit more relief to the neck, but this Recording King came setup from the factory better than Martins I've owned.
I found some very minor flaws, like a tool mark on one corner of the bridge, but I view that as the mark of a hand-made instrument rather than a serious flaw.
Tone quality is obviously subjective, but this guitar has just the tone I'd expect from a 12-fret 000. More balanced than a dreadnought, but with a bit more bass thump than a 14-fret OM.
The only thing I would change on this model if I could is the "aging toner" they added to the top. Martin does the same thing, but I prefer to let the wood age naturally and to start off looking like freshly-cut white spruce.
It's a keeper. And I can still afford to buy some more guitars!
