(More customer reviews)I bought my Danelectro back in the late 1990s when these axes were still widely available. I have no idea why they still aren't. My goal was to buy a nice, low-priced electric guitar that I wouldn't be afraid to cart around with me on NYC subways or buses.
I'd heard a lot of horror stories about Danos, but mine has rock-solid tuners, a comfortable neck, sturdy body construction, and sounds great unplugged. As far as electric guitars go, the lipstick pickups are merely ok and you have to have both pickups selected to get a decent volume out of the guitar. This isn't a guitar meant for singing, saturated sustain. Neck access is difficult above the 12th fret. But Danos were meant for twang and rockabilly, not heavy metal, so I have no complaints. I got what I paid for.
This is my backup guitar that I take to jam sessions and have occassionally recorded with on my computer. It's never disappointed me for the styles of music I play with it. It's easy to keep the Masonite body shiny-looking, and I've gotten lots of compliments regarding the Dano's appearance. The pickups do buzz (as do many single-coils), so play this through a clean amp with some EQ to remove the humming if you want pristine sound. I would recommend it as a second guitar to someone who already has a heavy-duty instrument (I have a Gibson SG). I would also recommend it to any beginner who wants a decent gutar that won't warp their fingers. The Danos I've tried (and the one I purchased) were much much MUCH better than the lowbudget Esteban travesties music stores are pushing beginners to buy now.
