(More customer reviews)I own a GCSM10 EL, which is the top of the line hand-crafted cavaquinho from Giannini. I am thrilled with it.
I wanted a 2nd "beater" cavaquinho to take to practices and carry around town, so I decided to purchase this model, which is about 1/4 the price.
This is a decent student model instrument. The intonation, action and build quality are good. If I can compare it to a guitar, I'd say this is like a student model Yamaha acoustic guitar.
The differences between this model, GCSM 3 CTE, and the hand-built GCSM10 EL are pretty drastic though. It would be like comparing a $1000+ Martin to a $100 Yamaha guitar. The hand-built model is beautifully finished. It is slightly bigger. It has a better action and a brighter, more resonant tone.
If you are curious and you are looking for a cavaquinho to start on, I can certainly recommend this one. I can perform with it. You may consider getting it set up for better playability. The built-in tuner and pick up are excellent. I am very happy with this as a 2nd cavaco.
