Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar, Worn Cherry Review

Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar, Worn Cherry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this guitar from Musician's Friend on Amazon. Due to some trouble, I had to wait for it for a couple of months. It finally is in my hands and I must say I'm impressed and absolutely satisfied. There's plenty of good reviews of this guitar on the web, so I refer you to those for the features; instead, I want to focus on the quality of the product itself. There is some concern among guitarists about buying instruments online, with random reports about people receiving badly constructed specimens of supposedly quality guitars. It hasn't been my case. This guitar has been known, since it was first released, for being a big improvement in quality for Epiphone, and for being the closest reproduction of a 1961 Gibson SG, for less than a third of the price. The one I received from MF and Amazon completely lives up to such fame: completely solid, flawless construction; gorgeous looks and quality appointments; and above all, near professional performance. Like any guitar that comes new out of the box, it required some action and intonation setup, but that was all: no flaws at all in the general construction or in the finish.
A few comments on the features.
The playability is amazing. The neck has the same satin finish as the body; it's wide and flat but not annoyingly fat or thick; and it joins the body at the 20th fret, giving free access to the last frets. All this makes for a lightning fast playing guitar.
The sound is just great. The pickups are hot, they can really give you that Gibson humbucker crunch, and with high distortion it's just brutal, perfect for everything from riffs to soloing to the mighty pinch harmonic! Of course, there are things that no SG can do, but if you wanted to do those things you would be looking at Strat reviews... but it IS a versatile guitar, it can suit many playing styles, and, unlike other guitars popular in the hard rock/heavy metal world, it can handle clean playing very well.
I encourage anyone who is thinking of buying an SG guitar but cannot afford a Gibson to try this one. Other brands might offer the same quality but just lack the "original" vibe that only Epiphone, being a Gibson subsidiary, can offer... and no, I don't work for Epiphone.
EDIT: the first painful quality issue has surfaced. The wood around the input jack is thin. Due to this, any untoward pressure exerted on the area can potentially crack the wood. I turned around with the guitar plugged in, but the cord was stuck under the amp, and so the plug forced the input jack into the wood and it cracked badly. I had heard that before but I never thought it would happen. So be warned... either you take special care in avoiding this kind of situation, or you don't buy this guitar.

The Epiphone Vintage G-400 Electric Guitar plays fast and is a super value. Epi has re-created this SG-shaped legend using a worn satin finish and aged fretboard inlays that give it the look of a cherished original. Crafted with chrome hardware, a mahogany body and single-piece set neck with rosewood fretboard, LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for more sustain and easier string changing, and armed with a pair of Alnico V humbuckers, this guitar is ready to rock right out of the box.

Ibanez ART100 ART Series Electric Guitar- Black Review

Ibanez ART100 ART Series Electric Guitar- Black
Average Reviews:

I purchased this guitar with much research for my boyfriend who, at the time, had a beat up one. He was skeptical first, but fell in love with it soon after. The actual guitar can use some adjustments, notably the pickups (which he did switch out for Emgs). Though the guitar is black, it has this pretty white outline that makes it nice on the eyes. The guitar came in on time and with no hassle or chips or dents. I ordered the guitar from Wholesale Music and I will definitely buy from again.
If you're on a budget, which most of us are, and can't afford the awesome ones, this ones a pretty good deal :)

This is my first electric guitar. I've been playing acoustic on a Fender acoustic for about 15yrs and never had the time to try electric. The sound is great and the guitar is feels good and seems to be decent quality. Much nicer than one would expect for a beginner's guitar. Definitely worth the price.

The Squier Standard Stratocaster plays great, with traditional vibe and modern feel. Player-friendly features like the slimmer neck and 22-fret rosewood fingerboard make for easier playing, and the die-cast tuners are lifetime-lubricated for years of trouble-free service and tuning stability. A twin-pivot bridge with satin-anodized saddles provides smooth tremolo action, and the single-coil alnico pickups sound great!

Behringer Vintager Electric Guitar Package
You can usually find this product cheaper than the listed [...] price if you look around online. That being said, this kit is great for the price. Sure the guitar isn't the greatest, but the amp alone usually retails for nearly the price you can find this whole kit online. I already owned a guitar and just wanted a real tube amp, so I bought this package since I was essentially getting the guitar and accessories as a freebie. If you go into it with that thinking, you'll be very happy with your purchase. I wouldn't recommend the guitar as a primary instrument, however, unless you are just starting out on guitar. It's a fine beginner type guitar.

Squier by Fender Classic Vibe Stratocaster 60s, 3 Tone Sunburst Review

Squier by Fender Classic Vibe Stratocaster 60s, 3 Tone Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I already love the Classic Vibe Series from Squier. I already have the Custom Tele and love the quality, feel and sound of the guitar. This is a great guitar with a unique sound... here's why...
The Build
This guitar is a quality built guitar. 2 Pieces of Alder with amazing quality to the Sunburst finish. It is a gorgeous guitar body. The neck is a thin C-shape with a unique design. It is glossy and thinner than the C-Shaped Mexican Strat Necks or the US Strat Necks. The medium-jumbo frets on the rosewood neck have no sharp edges and seem perfectly installed. The guitar came in the box, perfectly set up, although I needed to set the pickup heights a little differently and change the intonation a little with the bridge saddles. (This should be expected on almost any guitar.) There were a few dinks on the fretboard from the factory, but nothing that affects play at all.
The Hardware
The Tuners are vintage tuners that I have seen on some Us Strats and even the Kenny Wayne Signature Mexican Strat. They stay in tune perfectly well and seem like a great quality. The Bridge and saddles seem to be a good quality. The trem has a zinc trem block that seems less than the quality that I would want. I'm not sure why they don't have a higher quality stainless block.
The Electronics
The Pickups are Alnico and sound great. (remember that the stock Fender Bullet Strings are garbage and need to be changed.) Throw some decent strings on it and you will find that the pickups are fantastic. Tons of character from the notch settings. You get great Strat Spank and quack with a great sound. What surprises me in a huge way is the sustain. This guitar sustains way better than ANY Strat US or MExican that I have ever tried. (I assume that this is a combination of the quality build, the Hardware and the Electronics.)
The Sound
This guitar has a fantastic unique sound. Playing through several amps, this guitar sounded high quality through all of them. You will not find any Squier that has this kind of quality sound and sustain. Not even the Mexican Made Strats have this great sound. The older MIM strats all have ceramic pickups that are no good. This strat has high quality ALNICO pickups.
The Feel
The neck is thin, and if you like a thin neck this guitar feels amazing. I love the feel of this guitar. If you blindfolded me, I might pick the feel of this guitar over any strat that I have ever played.
Overall
You won't find a Strat with such a high quality and interesting sound as good for this price anywhere. If you like the sound and feel, you should feel lucky to find a guitar for this price. I could play this onstage or with any amp and be happy with the sound and sustain.
My guess about this guitar is that they had the China Squier factory use top quality parts and has developed a better quality control system to make these guitars more consistently good.
I love these guitars. Mine is easily becoming my favorite strat to hear, feel and play.

The rough-and-tumble Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s evokes that musically adventurous decade, with a few modern features added. The alder body has a Three-color Sunburst or Candy Apple Red finish; the '60s-era vintage-tint gloss-maple neck has a rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium-jumbo frets and a modern 9.5" radius. The thick tone comes from the alnico V single-coil pickups-quick attack with a bit more midrange force and a knockout bridge pickup. Custom staggered polepieces provide improved string-to-string balance.

For an entry level guitar, this one is much more solid than many other brands (first act, yamaha, even some fender in my book). But, you get what you pay for. This is a Lyon by Washburn guitar, the beginning line of Wasburns, and not even on their website. But, this guitar has decent sound at a decent price. It is also a collectable, signed by Paul stanley of kiss, 7500 made. It is not going to be a great guitar, but it will do for beginners, and can be upgraded in time if wanted. A great collectors item for kiss fans as well. Check it out. Also available in this 2006 autograph line are 3 other guitars, one by the Weezer guitarist, one by the All american rejects guitarist, and one by Fallout boys guitarist. Included in all are 3 picks, a strap, and the authetic autograph proof card, and a poster on the box.

Squier by Fender Stop Dreaming-Start Playing Set: Affinity Strat HSS w/ G, DEC Jr, Black
Average Reviews:

Ok, lets get this straight, it's a starter guitar, not a $1500 American Deluxe or a $2500 Gibson Les Paul. However if you are just getting started and not sure of your guitar playing commitment, the Fender Squier is an excellent choice. It is well built and as full featured as a starter guitar can be. I purchased the Fender Squier Starter Pack (not Starcaster) about two years ago and have not regretted it. With the GDec Jr amp, this kit is about $350. The less expensive Squier kit with a less capable amp, (which as a beginner may not be that important to you) is $199.
The GDec advantage is its ability to produce more sounds. In either case, it is a good quality guitar. If possible, it is always better if you can listen to a guitar before purchase. The Fender has been a good choice for me.

Epiphone EB-0 Short-Scale Bass Performance Pack Review

Epiphone EB-0 Short-Scale Bass Performance Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A Bass problem Solved.
Many basses Particularly the Epiphone Eb-0 and Gibson EB basses.. But other basses also can have this problem especially short scaled ones. The problem is when the cotton or metal windings are resting over the bridge saddle. I have searched extensively over the internet and found no easy solution that would not require machine tooling and hard to find parts. What you need is a spacer that will go down the strings...and will stop at the Ball / Ring end. I came up with a very easy fix that anyone can do.. All you need are Steel 8-32 Nut's. The Type a screw goes into. The Size is based in USA.. So foreign sized may be different.. If so just bring you "E" string to you hardware store and try out different sizes until you land one that fits as I initially did. I found I only needed one or 2 nut's and that moved back the windings so only the string part rested on the Saddle. The mount of nut's needed may vary depending on the type of strings so just in case buy 5 nut per string and your covered. They cost less than 10 cents each. As a result intonation was perfect and the action and tonal qualities sounded correct and made a huge difference in the overall sound as a big Improvement.
If using an Epiphone EB0 bass I spoke with Epiphone to find out the Gauge strings the Bass was designed and setup for: They told me to use: E: .105 A: .080 D: .065 G: .045 .
If buying a new Epiphone please trust me one this.. Change the strings!!! I could not find and exact match but the closest I found in gauge were all the same except for the A string being .085 in a set of Ernie Ball Hybrid slinky roundwounds - which worked perfectly.. The intonation did not go off on the A string.
Hope this Helps as an easy fix that will make your bass sound vastly improved. Remember the cotton or cloth or metal winding should never rest or touch the saddle.. And should always be well behind it. This fix is cheap and an easy fix!!
Hope this helps!

First Act 222 Designer Electric Guitar Pack - White (AL222) Review

First Act 222 Designer Electric Guitar Pack - White (AL222)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me first start by saying I previously owned a $500 Harmony guitar, which was a beautifully designed guitar with great style and sound.
With that in mind, I was looking for an affordable way for me to get back into guitar playing and casually recording, after about 7 years of not playing. I was hesitant to purchase a "cheapy guitar," as I've been quite snobby about the $500 and up brands, but I have a family now and I am in a limited income to afford such splurges.
This guitar easily blew me away. This is not a cheap imitation of a Fender or a Gibson. It has a very distinctive tone, which I am amazed at. For this price, you won't beat the quality of guitar you're getting. I can't lie and say it holds a candle to the expensive brands, but I can say this guitar is a dark horse in the competitive guitar market, and it has a quality and sound unequaled by other beginning guitars. It has an absolutely brilliant and bright tone. I am pleasantly surprised, and I look forward to playing this guitar for some time to come.
As far as the cons? The guitar itself is very hardy, and sounds wonderful. However, the amp leaves much to be desired. With the tone and gain turned all the way down, the sound is great. However, just one notch either way and it sounds like a malfunctioning loudspeaker at Jack in the Box.
Also, the guitar strap isn't the most comfortable and doesn't latch well to the knobs. This is a cheap replacement, though. The audio cord is very cheaply made, as well, and is quite flimsy. I wouldn't doubt it gets static very soon. It does do it's job, however. I just doubt it will have a long life.
Overall, this is a great guitar, a great value, and I recommend it for the beginner or the casual player, excusing the flaws of it's accessories.

The Yamaha Pacifica is a nice guitar for a beginner or as a "knock-around". The amp is ok, again good for knocking around without worrying about busting up expensive gear. Price for this setup is great. The electronic tuner in the kit is not that great - it reports bogus notes until you are within about a 1/2 step (i.e. showed "A" until it suddenly jumped to "E-flat").

Yamaha Gigmaker Electric Guitar Package - Blue Review

Yamaha Gigmaker Electric Guitar Package - Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one great guitar!
As a beginner, I cannot claim to know much about guitars, but I did do my research. Yamaha make great musical instruments and this guitar is recommended as a great beginner guitar by several places, including About. The package has everything you need to get started. THE GOOD:
The guitar - One great instrument. The build feels solid and not at all cheap. The strings are close the the fret board which is great. The tuners are very smooth and feel good. The guitar also has 3 pickups and 5 positions which allow you to change up the sound of he guitar from rock to jazz. Basically, this is a really good guitar. And it has two nobs for volume and tone.
The Amplifier - This is a good beginner amplifier. It is small and has 15 watts. It has two channels: Clean and Dirty. Plenty nobs for us beginners to play with: gain, dirty volume, clean volume, treble, middle, bass. Also has a quarter inch headphone jack. Despite what majority might think, 15 watts is enough for just about anything you'll be doing. The 15 watts allows you to turn up the gain all the way up and keep the volume down and still have it sound good.
The electric tuner - a nice little add-on for beginners.
The DVD - great place as any to start. Goes over the basics and teaches several chords.
Other - comes with extra strings :)
THE BAD:
The guitar - none at all.
The Amp - the only bad thing with it (for what it is), is that the headphones jack is a 1/4 inch jack so most of us with 3.5mm standard headphone will either need to get new headphones or adapter to use it. But it is no big deal in my opinion.
The Guitar Cable - it is one cheap cable. Mine broke after 4 days. I also noticed that in the dvd that was provided, the instructor didn't use the cable that was provided but a monster cable, which I found to be funny. You can get a monster cable for pretty cheap here on Amazon, so again, nothing too serious. Order one when you order the guitar so you don't have to wait like I do.
The Guitar Strap - again pretty cheap. It is like one of those run of the mill nylon straps that you see. I am going to invest in a better one but this one will do for most. On a side note, and this is with all guitars. Invest in peg locks. They will prevent the strap from coming off the pegs on the guitar. When putting on my guitar the strap slipped off the peg, but luckily I was holding the guitar very firmly. Again, this is true for all guitars and not just this one.Bottom line: Great guitar, great package, great buy. I am happy with it.

I'll be respectfully brief and to the point. This is not only a great travel guitar, but a pretty damn interestingly voiced guitar on its own. Frankly, when I put the EG-2 through a very nice hardware amp simulator and played a bit I was pleasantly surprised. Enough sounds in its palette to satisfy with really good tone and feel. It is very well made and aside from not being able to comment on it's longevity I am very satisfied with this guitar and the niche it fills admirably.

Jay Turser Resonator Guitars jt-900res-cs Acoustic-electric Guitar, Cherry Sunburst Review

Jay Turser Resonator Guitars jt-900res-cs Acoustic-electric Guitar, Cherry Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since Amazon doesn't give many details, here are a few:
Most importantly, this guitar has a spider cone (like a Dobro), not a biscuit cone (like a National). The wood is heavy plywood on the top, and feels heavy all around. The back and sides have a mahogany looking grain, altho they're probably one of those many tropical lookalikes. The back is arched! The tone is fairly mellow, as would be expected.
It's made in China, for what it's worth. Not necessarily a bad thing, in my experience. But don't expect National/Dobro/Taylor/Martin tone and quality, of course. It's an inexpensive (but not "cheap") guitar.
The two pickups have VERY different characters and relative volume, and the infinite blend control gives the player many options for sound. The other two controls are standard volume and tone, which affect both pickups. Sounds fine when not plugged in.
The finish is a very thick heavy plastic (urethane?) much more like an electric guitar than an acoustic. The cherry red sunburst is pretty good looking to my eyes. Not as garish as it appears on the computer-- more dark red, less orange.
The fretboard appears to be rosewood. It has nice (plastic?) binding, and the frets are well finished. The neck has an adjustable truss rod. The neck is 1 11/16", but for some reason they installed a 1 5/8" nut with very narrow string spacing. I've noticed a lot of Chinese guitars are coming with abnormally narrow string spacing these days. I immediately replaced mine with a Tusq nut. One other oddity is that it's a 14 fret neck, BUT the 14th fret is not at the juncture with the body but slightly overlapping. I guess that makes it a 13 7/8 fret neck! It's noticeable when you're playing up there.
The general fit and finish is excellent, altho mine was (and still is) missing one tiny chromed screw attaching the resonator cover to the body (there are 12). The cutouts for the f-holes are raw, unsanded and sloppily finished, and there are some shreds of wood visible on the inside of the holes. Not a big deal, but a noticeable detail. The holes, however, are precisely cut by computer, so they look fine unless you look at them closely. The tuning machines are decent.
The neck was straight and the action very low. It came with light or extra light nickel strings. Played fast. I installed medium/heavy nickel strings which brought up the action a little. Feels better for bottleneck now, but it was set up great for shredding right out of the box. The heavier strings put a slight bow into the neck, but it's ok for the way I play, and can be corrected with the truss rod.
All in all, I am tickled with this guitar, especially since Amazon sold it to me for only [...] with free shipping, and it was in stock. I see that the price has now increased to [...], so it's no longer as much of a steal, but still a good value. All in all it's a more than decent low end acoustic-electric resonator guitar.
