Epiphone LP Standard Plain-Top Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherryburst Review

Epiphone LP Standard Plain-Top Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherryburst

It was painstaking for me to decide to buy this guitar. I typically dont believe in buying a LOW END of anything as you get what you are paying for, I wanted a Gibson and was just turned off by the price of similar Gibson (the one I wanted was 2695.00) which at that price, Im afraid to play it everyday.. afraid to carry it around.. I did alot of comparing the two guitars.. and this won. The finish is GORGEOUS. It has grover tuners.. this sucker stays in tune... I have no complaints... great sustain and Im very happy with the tone. Does a Gibson have better pickups.. YES.. you can change the pickups and knobs.. and for a couple of hundred dollars more you have a Gibson Les Paul.. the price is so great that you dont sweat the knocking around.. I would buy this guitar again in a minute.

Now, the classic look of the "plain" Maple top is available to go with the classic Les Paul Sound. This understated look is preferred by many Les Paul fanatics. It still has everything you need in a Les Paul: the solid Mahogany body, Maple top, Alnico-V Humbucking pickups and the Tune-o-matic bridge/Stopbar tailpiece combo for monstrous sustain.

The Classic Look of the Plain Maple Top.
Angled Headstock Unlike cheaper designs, all Epiphones feature a 14-degree headstock that gives you more pressure at the nut and so you get more sustain with less tuning hang-ups caused by "string-tree" gadgets.
Double-Waxed Pickups Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures optimum performance. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is put in place to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax.
Output Jack To increase reliability and ensure consistent performance, Epiphone's proprietary output jacks feature an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel.
Toggle Switches All Epiphones feature our all-metal, USA designed switches for reliable contact and longer life.
Tunomatic Bridge Fully adjustable, the tunomatic remains a classic after over 50 years. Unlike guitars fitted with tremolos, there are no tuning or re-stringing difficulties. Plus, tone and sustain are improved because all string vibrations are transferred directly to the guitar.
Potentiometers Epiphone is passionate about performance. That's why their instruments use one-inch diameter potentiometers for better "throw," longer life and reliable service.
Quick-Connectors For unequalled reliability as well as ease of service, Epiphone wiring harnesses feature quick-connectors.

Peavey Bandit 112 80-watt 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier Review

Peavey Bandit 112 80-watt 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm surprised no one has reviewed this amp. This is a pretty decent amp for the price I don't mean the price someone is selling on amazon for over a thousand dollars. It's retail around $330 at guitar center but you can get it cheaper at musiciansfriend. This amp has one 80 watt blue marvel speaker. Let me tell you, it's pretty damn loud. It has both clean and lead channels you can switch. Each setting itself has three sub settings.
Clean
-warm
-classic
-vintage
Lead
-modern
-vintage
-high gain
This also has a setting at the back of the amp where you can set how much power you want to use. - 25%, 50%, 100%
25% being of course playing at home, 100% being live amped. It does have a line out so you can plug this in to record or into a PA.
It also has reverb and boost settings.
There are two inputs for this amp but DO NOT use two guitars with this amp. It's not made for it, one guitar will "choke" the other.
The two inputs are high gain and low gain.
most guitars will go into the high gain input, the low gain is for high output guitars,
There is also effects loop inputs and footswitch input at the back.
It has great sound, you can turn this thing up and you can hear it over drums and anything else, I've been told to turn it down before.
Overall this is a great amp, I've had it for about a year, lately it has been making a buzzing sound so it's at the shop right now (due to my constant playing and I probably haven't been taking care of it)
but luckily it's still under a one year warranty. (keep your receipts)
My only complaint is that this weighs 45 pounds. I hate carrying it around. (I'm a skinny guy)

Pete Belov, who is behind this product form the beginning to the end, is probably the best in business. I got 5 combos - Legend rock'n'roll 50, Laney vc30 212, 200W Peavey VTX212, some old Carvin 200W... and they are all lined up in my studio - this one gives me the best sound.

i am playing with it since a couple of weeks now, and i am enjoying it really a lot.
the sound quality is great, and programming it is very intuitive.
it has only one tiny drawback: the pedalboard is small, so the buttons are too close to each other.
anyway, i can't imagine anything better for this price!

Regal RC-51 Metal-Body Tricone Guitar (Silver) Review

Regal RC-51 Metal-Body Tricone Guitar (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've played National Tri-Cones, both late 20's originals and I own the new National Resophonic Models so I was skeptical about the Regal RC-51 at first. I wouldn't say it's "just like" a vintage National or modern National Resophonic but if those instruments are out of your price range this might be a good entry-level alternative.
The RC-51 is a Chinese-made semi-replica of the National Style 1 Tricone first manufactured in 1926 and sold in 1927. Unlike the Style 1 it has a 14-fret neck and a flat (paddle) headstock. The body is nickel-plated bell brass. The sound comes from three roughly 6" resonator cones connected by a T-shaped bridge. The bridge is sand cast aluminum and the saddle is wood of some sort. Following the National model the coverplate has screens over the cones and the upper bout has "basket weave" openings. The Regal RC-51 is very similar to the Johnson JM-991 (I believe they are made in the same factory in China) but the Regal has a flashy "pearloid" overlay on the headstock.
The RC-51 has a flat fingerboard like the 1930's Nationals. Most modern steel string guitars have a radiused fingerboard which many people find easier to play. If you aren't used to it, the flat fingerboard can take some getting used to but they work well for slide guitar. A flat fingerboard makes it easier to use a slide or bottleneck to cleanly "fret" as many strings as needed.
My RC-51 arrived with ridiculously light strings. Do yourself a favor and install medium or heavy gauge strings right away. The improvement in tone and sustain is dramatic. Light strings have a tendency to cause buzzes on resonator guitars. Medium (0.12 high E) or heavy (0.13 high E) will be louder, minimize buzzing, and deliver more pleasant tone from both fingerstyle and slide playing.
CAUTION: when changing strings it is a bad idea to remove all six at once on any resonator guitar. The cone(s) and bridge are held in place by the tension of the strings. Remove the strings and the resonating parts can shift and unseat. This can result in annoying buzzes and rattles when you play. Remove, replace, and retune the strings one at a time and you'll spare yourself this problem.
The Regal RC-51 is a favorite of players that want that 1929 National Style 1 sound but can't spare the price of a decent used car for a cranky 70+ year old guitar. Out of the box the sound of an RC-51 is okay but these also favorites for modifications. It is common to see Regal tri-cones that have been modified with a bone nut, an ebony saddle, and replacement cones (Quarterman or Nationals). Another upgrade that some players swear by is the "mushroom mod" which involves changing the internal bracing of the neck. (These are all jobs best left to a luthier experienced with resonator guitars.) Since most of the sound of a resonator comes from the cones, relatively inexpensive upgrades can significantly improve the sound and playability. But change the strings and play a while before spending money on upgrades. You might like how it sounds stock.
Overall the RC-51 is a good value. It's not a Style 1 but it is 1/6 the price of a National. Spend a little time on setup and you will not be unhappy with the quality, playability, looks, or sound of the RC-51.

If you are looking for a unique instrument with a traditional look and sound to play blues, ragtime, or jazz standard, consider the RC-51 standard model Tricone from Regal. Its nickel-plated bell-brass body will instantly take you back to a by-gone era of early musical instrument development. From the very first strum, you will see why these instruments have set the tone for early mechanically amplified music and still remain popular today.

Traveler Guitar Escape EG-2 Electric Travel Guitar (White, Deluxe Gig Bag) Review

Traveler Guitar Escape EG-2 Electric Travel Guitar (White, Deluxe Gig Bag)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This mini-strat fills the bill for me as a travel guitar. It will fit in a 29" suitcase, diagonally in its guitar case. It a 27" suitcase it will fit only with out the included case.
High points: The guitar has a nice tone, very close to to that of a Fender Stratocaster. It appears to be well made with decently low action. Intonation on the upper frets is good. The quality of the tuners and bridge and workman ship all appear good. There were no visible flaws. The aux input and headphone jack were the key features for me beside its full size neck in a small travel size.
It stays in tune almost as well as my American made Strat.
Low points: The aux input was loose, I unscrewed is mounting, and tightened the nut while holding the aux jack so it wouldn't turn as I tightened it. The Pocket Rocket feature will drain the included battery in 1 day if left on. Mine arrived with a dead battery. The guitar case could use a second strap so it can be carried like a back pack.
Other than that, I'm quite satisfied. I'd rate it B to B+.

I bought this guitar recently, and I am highly impressed with it. Let me start by saying I am an active musician who has been playing for 22 years. I normally play metal in a band that plays at least 4 times a week, but I also enjoy a few other styles of music. Now, when I received this guitar, first thing is I was struck by the beauty of the design on this guitar. The artwork is great, but the playability is even better. I gave this guitar a music workover playing styles such as black/death metal, blues, rockabilly, surf rock, and even some classical style pieces, and it played excellent through every genre I threw at it. Excellent for lead or rythm. It hasnt slipped tune on me, no buzz in the frets, electronics all work great. This guitar is well worth the money. I highly recommend it to anyone.Schecter ZULU Electric Guitar

Epiphone Sheraton II Archtop Electric Guitar, Natural Review

Epiphone Sheraton II Archtop Electric Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had the Sheraton II for a couple of years. It was in need of some basic setup and "re-humidification" after it's stay at Guitar Center. Sometimes your hear complaints about the pickups, but when they are correctly adjusted they are really quite good. The multipiece neck is quite stable and pleasantly chunky in size.
Detail quality is excellent, which is why so many get this guitar when they are searching for a Gibson 335. Why spend the extra $2000? I could not find a 335 without blems and quality finish issues anyway.
This guitar is not my primary guitar, but is the semi-hollow I have wanted. It is good. I have the natural finish, but the sunburst is very attractive.
The tuning machines are adequate, not superb.
Fretboard is excellent, inlays superb, wood is excellent.
I rate this much higher than the Epi Dots I tested.

Michael Kelly Patriot Glory Electric Guitar, Black Fade Review

Michael Kelly Patriot Glory Electric Guitar, Black Fade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this about four years ago. This is a solid body Les Paul style guitar with 21 jumbo frets and two knobs that can be popped up to cancel a humbucker for extra crunch. About this guitar:
PROS:
+Stunning looks (I really like the custom humbuckers and the mother-of-pearl inlay)
+Very little adjustment after purchase - just got the action fixed
+Great tone for classic rock & blues. Fantastic clean sound but capable of growling with a flip of a switch.
+It couldn't be more comfortable to play
+A steal at the price they are charging. Compare it to a much more expensive Les Paul by Gibson
and you'll see that it rivals it in the quality of materials and craftsmanship.
CONS:
-A bit heavy (which doesn't really bother me, but it might bother you)
-"Tribal" knobs are a little too extreme looking
In all, I am very satisfied with this guitar. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a great Les Paul style guitar.

Excellent sounding a really nice finger picker! Deep and rich sounding, works well while singing. Very surprised how incredible it sounds. The case is built well to protect the Yamaha LS6. It comes with Yamaha strings, they are sharp and rough, but you can always change them. When I play each note it has a clear and crisp sound. This guitar is built with quality. Playing it it's simply remarkable, can't put it down. My wife say's I love it tooo much. For the price it is a must have. I have played many other guitars at the guitar center and they don't compare to this Yamaha. I think it will hold its own against those more expensive guitars. This guitar is well worth it.

With a solid Engelmann spruce top, rosewood body, multilayered mahogany/rosewood reinforced neck, and ebony fretboard, the Yamaha LS6 acoustic guitar can be judged an excellent deal on materials alone. Yet where this concert body really shines is on the strength of its handcrafted construction by expert Japanese luthiers. Every step in the creation of this excellent musical instrument, from tonewood selection to and-sanding the frets, is done in a small factory by master craftsmen.Body topMost manufacturers are using Sitka spruce tops for their high end models. In Yamaha's experience, Engelmann spruce (Canada) naturally suits the role for top woods better than any other. The overriding quality for body top material is an allowance for resonance and Engelmann spruce has this attribute in abundance. It is a light wood that is easy to work and enables a good tone response with a wide harmonic range. Visually Engelmann spruce is comfortable on the eye and its opaque light yellow tint is reminiscent of a mature acoustic instrument. Back & sideYamaha uses rosewood for both the back and sides on all the L series models. The rosewood blends extremely well with the Engelmann spruce top. It disperses resonance evenly and effortlessly.Neck blockThe neck block reinforces the neck joint. Yamaha has improved the conventional C block design by enlarging the surface area that is in contact with the top of the guitar. The block securely meets the underside of the top adding a real depth to the tone of the instrument.BracingX-bracing maps out the vibration patterns of the guitar. Each of the eight braces has been carefully positioned in order to bring out the tone in a balanced fashion and find a natural harmony with the guitar's tone woods.Multilayered reinforced neckTraditionally, an acoustic guitar neck is carved from a single timber block. As the grain of the timber has to be angled at about 14 degrees to accommodate the headstock, it leaves itself vulnerable to excessive stress.

Boulder Creek EBR3-N4F Acoustic-Electric 4-String Fretless Bass Review

Boulder Creek EBR3-N4F Acoustic-Electric 4-String Fretless Bass
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have searched far and wide for an acoustic bass that has good tone, volume, clarity and warmth. These basses have all four. I really just love these basses, the tone is just fantastic. The volume is way way better than other basses I have tried, largely due to the suspended bracing that lets the top move like a speaker cone. You can get a lot of volume if you really dig in, but it also has a great dynamic range you can get great tone playing soft and the harder you dig in the bigger the tone. These basses really sing and are a pleasure to play. They are by far the best I have found for less than $1000. Highly Highly recommended.

Offering a combination of traditional materials and high-tech design, this fretless 4-string acoustic-electric bass guitar from Boulder Creek (model EBR3-N4F) enables you to hear your playing without plugging it in. The side port on the top projects the deep tones from the body directly to the player while the additional front port shoots the low frequencies towards the audience. When plugged in, it keeps the same natural tone with much less feedback than other acoustic electric basses.
All Boulder Creek guitars feature solid tops, solid backs, and laminated sides for strength and durability. The EBR3-N4F uses Boulder Creek's Solitaire body, which employs the Suspended Bracing System (SBS). A departure from the traditional X-brace, the SBS employs a pair of parallel aluminum braces that are anchored at three points under the top, but are otherwise suspended like a pair of towel racks. This allows the top to vibrate more freely, improving projection. The area of the top is also greater, with a soundhole the size of half-dollar and a large oval port on the side, dramatically improving bass response.
It's also equipped with the AB4-T Active Balanced Acoustic System with on-board tuner. The specially designed cable-type saddle transducer reduces the "clunk" that is inherent in traditional piezo pickup systems. The AB4-T System also feature both balanced and unbalanced outputs for maximum signal and noise reduction in both stage and studio applications.

When looking for a Goldtop, I spent 3 hours at a Gibson retailer playing nearly every Gibson LP they had in stock. I played the Slash signature, the Standard, the Traditional...I played them all through a Marshall 100 watt tube amp through a Marshall 1960 4 X 12 Cabinet. When I picked up the '57 VOS, I could feel the quality immediately. I played a few chords, ripped a quick pentatonic lick and did a tone and a half bend at the 12th fret on the second string...the sustain was amazing! My wife, who had been sitting there the entire time looking completely bored, looked up and asked, "what guitar is that?" The vintage sounding PAF humbuckers sound absolutely great! The 50s neck feels like a Louisville Slugger and the top is perfectly done. The only thing I've changed about the guitar is adding Dunlop straplocks to make sure I don't drop this beauty. This guitar is made to play and will not disappoint. Worth every dime!

By 1957, Gibson's evolving Les Paul model guitar had already undergone several key modifications that would remain as the foundation of the iconic version known around the world today as the Les Paul Standard. But while the addition of the new Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece one year earlier had greatly improved the overall functionality of the Les Paul, nothing would compare with the addition of Gibson's pioneering humbucking pickup in 1957.

A truly magnificent instrument, gleaming in gold.
History"A truly magnificent instrument with its natural mahogany back and neck, while the top is in gleaming gold with contrasting ivory trim." --Original Gibson advertisement, circa 1955
At the direction of legendary Gibson President Ted McCarty, Gibson engineer Seth Lover began working on a tone circuit with hum-cancelling capabilities sometime in 1954, applying for a U.S. design patent--hence the name "Patent Applied For," or "PAF"--on June 22, 1955. By early 1957, the standard double-coil version of the humbucker pickup had begun to appear on Gibson ES-175s and ES-350Ts, and eventually on the Les Paul Model Goldtops of the same year.
Body Aside from the pickups, the basic specifications of those 1957 Les Paul Model Goldtops remained the same. There were, however, several minor cosmetic variations that made the 1957 version significant in the development of the Les Paul, the most noteworthy of which was the placement of the inlaid, pearl-cut Gibson logo, which was moved closer to the top edge of the headstock. Additionally, 1957 was to be the last full year of production for a Gibson model with a Goldtop finish. The popular color would not adorn another Gibson guitar until 1968.
Famous Players The 1957 Les Paul Goldtop was also the model used famously by Duane Allman during the formative years of the Allman Brothers Band and his early session work, including his work with Eric Clapton (Layla sessions), the Allman Brothers Band's legendary Fillmore recordings, as well as their first two albums--a body of work considered by many to be one of the most important in the history of rock and roll.
Near-perfect Recreation Today's 1957 Les Paul Goldtop from the Gibson Custom Shop is a near-perfect recreation of the original instrument, in all of its original brilliance and historical magnificence. The body features Gibson's traditional hand-carved maple top and solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body. The headstock is made from Holly head veneer, as opposed to fiber, just like it was in 1957, and the vintage-style tulip tuners are mounted in a straight line, also as they were on the original. The 24 3/4-inch scale length neck is made from one solid piece of mahogany, and attached to the body using a long neck tenon--one of the Les Paul's more distinguishing characteristics of the 1950s. The neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard outfitted with acrylic trapezoid inlays matching the size of color of the originals. Of course, two of Gibson's legendary Burstbucker pickups deliver all the subtle variations of true, classic humbucker tone by using historically "unmatched" bobbin windings and Alnico II magnets. The guitar's Antique Gold finish also matches the hue of the original model, giving this Custom Shop model the accurate and distinct appearance of this traditional Les Paul. Other historical appointments include CTS potentiometers, bumble bee capacitors, rolled creme-colored fingerboard binding, single-ply thin binding around the body, and period-correct switchwasher and jackplate. The 1957 Les Paul Goldtop comes either a V.O.S. or Gloss finish, and comes with the standard Gibson Custom case, custom care kit and certificate of authenticity.

I had been looking for this kind of pretty semi-hollow or thinline telecaster for 40 years but all of them were expensive until now. This axe is made in Korea, low action, light weight and sounds great!!!! Grab yourself one and you won't be sorry!

Godin 5th Avenue CW Electric Guitar (Kingpin II, Natural) Review

This thing looks beautiful.. photo doesn't do it justice. It sounds great too. I haven't had super major feedback issues playing americana/roots rock with my band, though it feeds back more than my solidbodies and semi-hollowbodies. But it really sounds great... sounds good acoustically and plugged in. This, for me, was a terrific buy, very happy with it.
