Yamaha SLG100S Silent Steel Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Yamaha SLG100S Silent Steel Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is great in every application you could use it for.
It plays great, has almost zero dead spots, great factory setup, very little fret buzz for all playing styles, solos like an electric but sounds like an acoustic.
Produces amazing tone and sound quality through almost any set up, isn't hard on your back when standing (obviously), GREAT for recording. Plays jazz guitar the best.
Only drawback: must use expensive batteries; it drains the cheap ones really quickly. Or just use phantom power.
Would definitely pay list price for this model.

Aria AS-100S Sinsonido Travel Guitar - Steel String Review

Aria AS-100S Sinsonido Travel Guitar - Steel String
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, I think this guitar is everything the description said it would be. I am completely satisfied. But, for your complete satisfaction, there are a few things your should know.

First of all, the strings. I have no idea what kind the manufacture installs on this guitar, but they are not what I would want to use. Additionally, they had a bit of tarnish on them. Like many new guitars, the stings may have been on the guitar for a long time, so the installation of new strings is always a good idea.

Although this is a travel/practice guitar, and comes in a nicely padded gig bag, the owner should still take care to not put too much pressure on the bag, as the tuners are plastic, and stick up high enough to possibly be broken if jammed into an overhead baggage compartment on an airplane.

Those are the only negative things I can say about this guitar, and neither are showstoppers.

The first thing that is impressive about this guitar is the workmanship. Although not an expensive acoustic made of several varieties of fine woods, the mahogany is beautifully finished. The fingerboard is as nice as any you'll find. Although this guitar doesn't look like typical instrument, it is quite attractive.

This guitar is everything a travel/practice should be. Very portable, but within seconds, it assembles into a full-size guitar. Physically, the guitar resembles an electric guitar more than an acoustic guitar. But plug in the headset or an external amp, and you'd swear you were placing a full size dreadnought.

Every guitar I have ever bought, I had a luthier set up withing the first week of purchase. Somehow, the factory settings are never quite right. Not so with this guitar. I found the set-up to be perfect, at least for me. Once I got my favorite strings installed (Elixer Nano strings), this guitar played beautifully. Of course, depending on your preferences, you might want to have this guitar set up to your wants.

Finally, one mark of a good guitar is its ability to stay in tune. In this respect, this guitar is pretty amazing. From day to day, this guitar seems to stay in tune. Even when transported from one climate to another, there is very little, if any, need for tuning. It is very stable.
Keep in mind, they make this guitar as a classical and a four string bass, too.

Would I recommend the purchase of this guitar? Absolutely!

The Sinsonido Series of travel guitars and basses are truly examples of excellence in design. They can be played through headphones (supplied) or through your amplifier. The body frame makes for comfortable playing while seated, or can be removed for playing while standing, with a strap. The AS-100S is a steel string guitar that has a surprisingly big sound for an instrument that weighs so little.

Traveler Guitar Escape EG-2 Electric Travel Guitar (White, Deluxe Gig Bag) Review

Traveler Guitar Escape EG-2 Electric Travel Guitar (White, Deluxe Gig Bag)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This mini-strat fills the bill for me as a travel guitar. It will fit in a 29" suitcase, diagonally in its guitar case. It a 27" suitcase it will fit only with out the included case.
High points: The guitar has a nice tone, very close to to that of a Fender Stratocaster. It appears to be well made with decently low action. Intonation on the upper frets is good. The quality of the tuners and bridge and workman ship all appear good. There were no visible flaws. The aux input and headphone jack were the key features for me beside its full size neck in a small travel size.
It stays in tune almost as well as my American made Strat.
Low points: The aux input was loose, I unscrewed is mounting, and tightened the nut while holding the aux jack so it wouldn't turn as I tightened it. The Pocket Rocket feature will drain the included battery in 1 day if left on. Mine arrived with a dead battery. The guitar case could use a second strap so it can be carried like a back pack.
Other than that, I'm quite satisfied. I'd rate it B to B+.

Steinberger Synapse SS-2F Guitar with Gigbag, Antique White Review

Steinberger Synapse SS-2F Guitar with Gigbag, Antique White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've always liked the efficiency of the minimalist Steinberger. I mean, why have more guitar than you need? The day I got my Steinberger Synapse it already had problems. An annoying buzz from deep in the guitar. I contacted Gibson who referred me to one of their local warranty luthiers. He removed the buzz after a week in the shop. Since there's so little to the guitar, I wondered how they could miss something so fundamental. I wanted to go a guage lighter on the strings. Double-ball end are hard to come by, so I loaded regular single-ball end into the guitar. The hex screws that were supposed to hold the strings didn't. The head-end has a design flaw so that any string under a certain gauge will wiggle right out of the clamp that is supposed to hold the string. The last straw came when I went to adjust the action and intonation. There is a hex bolt that keeps the bridge pieces from flopping around. I needed to loosen that to do anything that moves the bridge, like adjusting action and intonation. The problem is, the hex screw was half-way underwater, that is the head of it was so low perpendicular to the body of the guitar, that in order to insert a hex wrench you would need to drill a divot into the guitar body to insert the wrench. I can only assume this is problem of execution, because the instruction manual pictures show the screw head above the guitar body. Now I have to pack up a a brand new guitar for RMA at Gibson. Who knows what I'll get back. Support from Gibson has been slow. I don't think they care too much about their Steinberger brand. Now that I know how poor their execution is on making a guitar, there is no way I would buy a Les Paul.

Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Electric w/Gig Bag Review

Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Electric w/Gig Bag

I'm a guitar student and travel several times a year for several days at a time. I have been frustrated by losing days of practice because of the travel. I didn't want the expense, extra bulk, and risk to my guitar of taking it on flights. I did a Google search for a small guitar that might be able to go with me and found this guitar at Amazon.com. I read the reviews, which were quite positive, and ordered it overnight since I had a flight in 1 day. Not only was the size just what I needed (It fits easily in the overhead, and qualifies as a personal item) but the price was great! It comes with a padded soft travel case that has a zipper pocket. I am delighted! It is (very) light, has a full sized neck, and has a pickup so I can plug into my TASCAM CD-GT2 CD Guitar Trainer and with a small set of headphones I can practice without disturbing anyone. Excellent quality workmanship. I strongly recommened consideration of this guitar. It may be Too light for some but I love it!

Traveler Guitar Escape EG2 WHT HSC-TWD Electric Guitar, White with Tortoise Shell Pick Guard and Tweed Case Review

Traveler Guitar Escape EG2 WHT HSC-TWD Electric Guitar, White with Tortoise Shell Pick Guard and Tweed Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar sure is a beauty and the size is just right. It gives you the "feel" you would want from a normal sized guitar. The intonation on these are also superb. The action however is where this guitar runs into trouble. I have gone through 4 returns trying to get the right one. The first guitar I received had substantial fret buzz on the 6th string even though the strings were still quite high for an electric guitar. The buzz was substantial enough that a couple of the frets would not even play a note. Since this isn't a cheap guitar I didn't spend much time adjusting it. I figured I'd return it and try again. The second one I received had a little fret buzz but it was acceptable. Unfortunately it was obviously used and had dirt and black smudges all over it. Again, I didn't pay this kind of money for a used guitar so I returned it. The 3rd one I received actually had headphones in the case where the first 2 did not. I'm guessing that this is supposed to come with headphones and they are being lifted from some of the cases prior to shipping. This guitar had no buzzing on any of the frets and though it appeared to have been handled, was playing well. I then turned the guitar over and noticed that even though this had the body of the EG-2, the neck and bolted plate on the back had a serial number for the older Traveler EG-1. The guitar had clearly been tampered with and had mixed matched parts on it. I am currently awaiting guitar number 4 hoping that everything is finally new, untouched, not tampered with, playable, and that there are no missing items.
Even though I think this guitar is overpriced by about one hundred seventy bucks, I still really want to love the guitar. It looks great, feels right, plays decent and will be a great practice tool for when I have some down time, on vacation, or just watching tv.
The deal with the case is good since the case alone sells for one hundred dollars, but be warned. I'm suspect to believe that when you buy this bundle, the guitar gets handled a lot more and you may be getting a referb or second hand item from the manufacture. You might be better off buying just the guitar with its carrying bag. This has been an annoyance but amazon has great customer service and have been over nighting the guitars to me. Even with all the problems, I can't help but smile when I'm playing the guitar. Very cool concept.

Traveler EG-1 Mahogany Satin Red Electric Travel Guitar with Deluxe Gig Bag Review

Traveler EG-1 Mahogany Satin Red Electric Travel Guitar with Deluxe Gig Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second Traveler Guitar, my first was an MK-II Steel. While I have enjoyed the MK-II w/ piezo pickups, I was desperate for the same guitar with a humbucker and the EG-1 is it. The Traveler EG-1 Mahogany Satin Red is lighter in weight than the MK-II, but with a humbucker it handles a heavier sound. Now I have options when I travel - the acoustic electric MK-II or a pure electric EG-1. The travel cases are awesome!
The EG-1 has great pickups, great action and with a Line 6 Pocket Pod for on the go, I have everything I need!
Minor issue: 1. A heavier duty 3-position switch - it is a little on the small side and I fear if anything might "give" during travel it will be the switch.

Traveler Guitar Speedster Electric Travel Guitar (Gloss Black, Gig Bag) Review

Traveler Guitar Speedster Electric Travel Guitar (Gloss Black, Gig Bag)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did a lot of research for a travel friendly electric guitar and this one came out on top for me. Price wasn't nearly as big a factor for me as small size, good quality, comfortable feel, and a FULL SIZED fret board.
At 28" the Speedster is small enough to use in a tight space and you don't have to get used to a scaled down fret board like some of the competitors like the PalmGuitar and Lapstick, both of which are also much more expensive.
As much as I like the Steinberger as a travel friendly alternative, the Speedster is 2" shorter, and less expensive. One thing that is nice about the cost is you won't feel bad if it gets knocked around in the overhead bin or in the back of your car.
The removable arm looks cool but I don't find it's necessary when using a strap. I leave it at home and use the extra space in the gig bag for my headphone amp, capo, cable, and extra strings.
It should be noted that you won't be able to install a pair of strap locks so I highly recommend a self-locking guitar strap. I really like the Planet Lock Strap made by Planet Waves. For the headphone amp I bought the iGTR and really like it. Great effects, allows for mp3 player and headphone connection, and I can even connect to my iPod speaker for use as an amplifier!

Traveler Guitar Speedster Electric Travel Guitar (Candy Apple Red Metallic, Gig Bag) Review

Traveler Guitar Speedster Electric Travel Guitar (Candy Apple Red Metallic, Gig Bag)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When it first arrived, I was impressed at its small build, but at the same time I was worried that it wouldn't quite cut it for me (looks like a toy at times). After playing for a couple of hours, I fell in love with my Traveler.
Pros:
1) Good for traveling, obviously, due to its VERY small frame.
2) It may not look pleasing to the eye with an armrest attached. But you could play standing up without the armrest. It's light. It's not suffocating (like some guitars are when played standing up). And it trains you to get used to playing standing up.
3) When the guitar arrived I jumped straight into playing it from the box. It worked great, and I was surprised at how comfortable the guitar felt. Almost like my first love (: It sounds great, has great tone and clarity. Wood quality was good, and sliding was surprisingly easy.
Cons:
1) Pickup. It may not cut it for metalheads. But I paired it with my Roland Microcube and it's good to go for me.
2) The armrest creeks at times. It could feel like a full-build guitar really if the armrest attaches better.
3) Restringing. Enough said.
Some notes:
1) The tuning pegs have really limited space around them. It may be inconvenient to most guys, but I have small fingers, hence tuning was made easy for me (I just use my right hand all the way!)
2) I think this guitar really fits my size. Guitars are always made for males; hence us female guitarists always have to accommodate. It's light, so I don't have to feel like I'm carrying bricks on my shoulder when I play standing up. I don't know how to put my next point appropriately, so I'm just gonna say: for females, it fits.
3) If you're the type that rests your 3rd and/or 4th finger on the guitar while you pick, it may feel strange when you first play the Traveler as there is way less solid space to rest on (due to the tuning pegs' position). You WILL get used to it, though; your body will automatically adjust and make use of whatever space there is.
Why 4 stars, not 5? Because I really want to restring to XL strings, but I get tired when I think of assignments AND look at the back of the guitar (:

Traveler Ultra Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar with Gig Bag Review

Traveler Ultra Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar with Gig Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had various travel guitars- I have a Taylor Big Baby, and used to own a Martin Backpacker- but I was looking for something that was more portable than either- something small enough to pack inside a suitcase and carry on vacation. I wasn't looking something with great sound, or something stageworthy, just something with a full sized neck to practice on when I was away from home.
I tried one of the Travelers that comes with both piezo and magnetic pickups at a local guitar discount chain, and I liked the feel (though not the painted finish); it was the only model they had, so I decided to do a buit more research into the range. Back home, I looked at the Traveler Guitars web site, and this model caught my eye- no electronics, piezo pickup only, but it was light, tiny, and came in an attractive natural finish. And the price was right, too. I decided to chance it.
It arrived this morning, and I've been playing with it most of the day. Fit and finish is very good, if simple, and the feel of the neck is excellent. The neck in particular shows a lot of care, with all the frets carefully hand-filed and shaped- no sharp edges here, like on so many inexpensive imports. Traveler is either doing a lot of QC on these guitars when they arrive, or they've found a really good shop to produce them.
Despite the odd shape and lack of a headstock, it's easy to play. I found that a strap was more comfortable for me than the clip-on lap support, but thanks to the light weight, even without the strap or the lap support it's easy to hold.
Plugged into a standard guitar amp- a Tech21 Trademark 30- the sound was not very good- too much of that piezo twang, and an uneven balance. But plugged into the high-impedance (10 megohm) input of my Acoustic Image Contra, the sound was surprisingly good- better than a lot of much more expensive, piezo outfitted instruments I've tried. Using my K&K Preamp with a short (6") patch cord also delivered a much improved sound.
In summary, I'm very happy with this guitar (in fact, I've got in on my lap as I type this). It's tiny enough to travel everywhere, and with the right amplification, it sounds very good. In fact, I'm thinking the Traveler bass guitar might be a nice addition to the collection, too.

I've had my traveler guitar for 10 years and absolutely love it. It's been all over the world with me and I've gigged with it for hundreds of fellow GIs at austere locations around the globe. People are constantly amazed by how good of a sound comes from such a small guitar. I usually play it through a Korg Pandora for headphones or when I'm using a PA. When I'm in a hotel room I take a Roland Micro Cube or Johnson mini amp along depending on my luggage space and they each sound great with the Traveler. I've spent over a decade trying every portable guitar set-up that I could find and I've yet to see anything that I like more than this!
