Line 6 Variax 300 Acoustic Guitar, Steel Review

(More customer reviews)UPDATE: I wrote the review below 2 years ago. Lately this is what has happened: I took the Variax 300 to a gig to do an acoustic set. I installed fresh batteries and headed out. On stage the instrument failed to produce any sounds at all. I quickly changed out the 6 AA batteries for a fresh 9V alkaline and popped it in. It seemed to work until the middle of the first song--then nothing. It ruined its first debut outside of the studio.
I inspected the obvious connections inside the guitar, the jack etc. but found nothing out of the ordinary. I guess I'll have to take it to Line 6 and have them look at it. Unfortunately I will never be able to fully trust the guitar again. From now on it stays in the studio where it belongs.
For this reason I changed the rating to 3 stars instead of 5. The rest of the review below is still valid.__________
The Variax 300 Steel is an acoustic guitar that must be played electrically. Despite the irony, it has the nicest sound(s)I have ever heard from an acoustic guitar.
It uses digital sound modeling taken from sampling two of the world's classic guitars. You turn a dial one way to emulate the sound of a bright sounding Martin guitar or turn the dial the other way for the big sound of a classic flamenco guitar--or dial up anything in between. There are also simple slider controls that allow you to imitate various mic placements and even various room acoustics.
The Variax 300 will give you a wide variety of acoustic guitar sounds created by computer modeling. It's quite amazing.
Because of the way the pickups are used you get a well rounded variety of guitar tones with none of the string noise or feedback that you would normally get when electrifying an acoustic guitar. You get room filling, very pleasant sound.
The Variax 300 is built like an electric guitar and is easy to play and compact so it fits well in any home studio. Nice sounds from the Variax 300 Steel.

(More customer reviews)I lived in Brazil for awhile and was under the impression that these guitars were good quality, so when I got back I ordered this one. I know it is at the cheaper end of their guitars but I was extremely disappointed. The action was unplayability high for me, the wood was rough in some places, and the finish had already started pealing on the neck. I have a cheap classical acoustic I bought for [...] bucks and it feels and sounds better than this one. I didn't plug it in, I just took it out of the box played it for about 15 minutes and stuck it back in and returned it. There are much better options in the price range, trust me.

Sitka Spruce Top Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) grows in a coastal "pocket" from Northern California to Alaska. Grand Auditorium Body Shape The Grand Auditorium was the first guitar shape designed from scratch by Bob Taylor. (More customer reviews)I just purchased this guitar and it has exceeded all my expectations. The body was made of solid Mohaghany and the neck is also Mohaghany set net with rosewood fingerboard. The action is great and the pick-ups are Seymour Duncan 59 on the neck and Seymour Duncan Custom Custom on the bridge. Both are fabulous.
This guitar is so pleasing to the eyes and it is beautiful and well made. Get yourself a Peavey Vypyr amplifier and you are going to rock the house.

(More customer reviews)I have tested 50 plus guitars and the Taylor DN3 exceeds any desires I have to own a great guitar under 2000 dollars. I have played more expensive guitars but my skill level did not make them sound any better than the the DN3.
If I could buy a second guitar it would also be the Taylor DN3, it is a work of art and a joy to play.
This was is NOT an electric guitar, the electric model is the DN3E, and cost 300 dollars more, but I kept it anyway.

Taylor's DreadnoughtThe original Dreadnought acoustic guitar appeared early in the 20th Century, and its no-frills, no-nonsense shape made it a logical namesake of the huge battleships of that day.
