I have got two units (original and a replacement unit) but both had problems.
First, for those would be interested in some details:
1. Very heavy 85lb combo. Compared to the Hot Rod Deville, HRD feels a lot lighter. Would definitely need roller to move around (rollers came in a bag, nice part).
2. The power transformer didn't have the nice THD logo on it, black preamp cage - different from the magazine photo of head unit gut shot. Came with Chinese EL34s, don't know which brand 12AX7s
3. Power tubes are easy to access, but preamp tubes, I have trouble reaching, really tight in front. Since replacing tubes are what THD is all about, they should have made this easy.
First unit:
1. Came with beaten up box. When opened, few handful foam bars fell down to bottom of the box, and only the cardboard box protecting the unit.
2. As expected from the packing, the cabinets had many damages.
3. The unit looked like a demo unit from a dusty warehouse.
4. Found several poor workmanship (such as tolex cutout sticking out to plexi panel) things didn't look like passed any Quality Inspection.
5. The unit had bad hum from both power transformer (mechanical) and speaker with zero volume settings. I know, it is not my outlet or grounding. My other amp is dead quiet with same outlet, zero volume setting.
decided to send it back. Hoping I have got the lemon.
Second unit:
1. It came in with the same packing condition. Absolutely no protection other than the paper box. Found several dents like someone threw it around.
2. Also the cabinet wood work had serious flaws (mid panel to side joint had 1/4 to 1/2 inch separation, looks like someone pulled out).
3. Without testing it, I have sent it back with the same FEDEX guy delivered (I had him wait, open the box and inspected with him).
I had very high hope of getting this unit. But both workmanship, packing and noise were disappointing.
