DeArmond Ashbory Bass - Black Fretless Mini Bass with Gigbag Review

DeArmond Ashbory Bass - Black Fretless Mini Bass with Gigbag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a serious instrument that sounds like an upright bass or a bass guitar depending on how you set the pickups. It is great with the small size but big tone. Go to YouTube and search for and listen to some of the clips. I love my Ashbory! I love my Fender Jazz 1978 bass but as I get older it gets heavier. Ashbory is great to carry on a plane or camping. Play it through a Crate Taxi battery amp and you are ready to make great music!

Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass, Black Review

this is the one of the best basses in this price range that you can buy. period. great construction and quality. double ball tuning sytstem is awesome. the looks take a little getting used to, but once you do its awesome. the dual emg humbuckers are great. u can get whatever sound u want, from real punchy to mellow tones. the leg rest is kinda useless, and the gig bag provided isnt the best, so if you are going to carry it around i suggest you just use a normal bass gig bag...it works perfectly fine.

The Spirit XT-25 is a 5-string bass featuring the same distinctive body-shape as the award-winning Steinberger XL Series and features the trademark headless neck with the patented Double-Ball tuning system. And the XT-2 is perhaps the world's most "travel-friendly" and convenient bass ever made. It comes complete with a gigbag and, being only 38.5" in length, it can fit in places where other basses can't! Hagstrom HL550 Electric Jazz Guitar (Black Gloss) Review

Hagstrom HL550 Electric Jazz Guitar (Black Gloss)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is absolutely gorgeous and sounds amazing. Needs the fret ends filed down, not a big deal but I kinda expect perfect "everything" after all these years as a guitar consumer. Well worth the money. Big acoustic sound, dark electric sound due to only one floating pick-up ( I'm not a jazz player). Would be 5 stars if it weren't for the fret edges.....Don't let that stop you from purchasing one. This is a great guitar!

Gibson L-4 CES Electric Guitar, Mahogany, Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson L-4 CES Electric Guitar, Mahogany, Vintage Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been itching for the chance to review my guitar ever since I got it. Now that the honeymoon is over it's time.
Mine is in sunburst finish. It has the maple sides and back as opposed to the modern mahogany. Mine was made in 2000. The only modification I've made to mine are that I installed two Seymour Duncan Antiquity P-9o pickups, made a compensated ebony saddle, and replaced the Gibson tuners with something a little more fitting to my tastes. Which was the first era Kluson style tuners instead of the modern ones that use the ferruls and large holes.
Anyhow, I've been playing guitar for over 17 years and have owned ONLY archtops. Many, many of them. I was a Gretsch man most of that time with passing fancies in just about every brand. I always wanted a Gibson archtop because they always stuck out in my mind as something very special. They kept their prices high enough to keep the rif-raf away from them and I love that. Well, for the most part.
I can't say enough good about this guitar. It's a little smaller than I'd like, but that's what the L-5 and Super 400 are for. It sounds absolutely heavenly to me. I play CLEAN. All tube...all the time. When I'm not plugged in it's more than loud enough to play in the car, lying in bed, or out by the campfire. It's acoustically valid and that's my primary concern.
The fit and finish are just fine and it leaves nothing to be desired. The flamed maple is darn pretty and the spruce top really shows nice wide grain.
Once I got this guitar my vintage collectors pieces took a back seat. That's how nice these guitars are. I would buy another one in a heartbeat, sight-unseen. I would not be worried. I played several ES-175s before buying this guitar and they can't hold a candle to it. They felt heavy and stiff to me. Not life at all.
I play mostly finger style country & western, jazz, blues, and a little rockabilly. This guitar makes me play better because I practice more. I want to play all the time. And that's AFTER the honeymoon. I've had this guitar since March.
I see so many people these days with archtops, but so few high end ones. That's what I love about this guitar. For the price you pay you'd better know how to treat it right. This is not a toy. This is for grown-ups and people who have arrived at a place in their playing where they can justify the finer things.
The only things I didn't like about the guitar I promtly changed, so I love everything about it. There's not a thing wrong with it.

Shipping was on time and the guitar arrived pristine in a golden-tweed hard case. I purchased the all natural spalted maple ES 335 and it is an amazing piece of workmanship. Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Bass, 2 Tone Sunburst Review

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Bass, 2 Tone Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The copy I relieved of this bass had some of the nastiest looking wood I have ever seen in a transparent finish instrument. It had black knots on the front and rear. The body was made of three drastically mismatched pieces. It was too ugly to look at, I can't imagine how that body passed preliminary inspection at the factory. It would have been OK for a solid color bass, but not for a sunburst!
By the way, it's a three-tone sunburst, not two-tone as the Amazon description says.
It sounded and played OK, but the looks bugged me too much and I returned it to Amazon.

Roland Cube 80X 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp Black Review

Roland Cube 80X 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Most guitarists enjoy the distorted sound of tube amps. Others of us appreciate the natural sound of a good archtop through a clean amp. Our choices are narrowed considerably by this preference. After investigating, I found my way to the Cube80x. It's been a good choice for my Epiphone Broadway. The clean tone of this amp (with clear ties to the Jazz Chorus amp) is quite pleasing and blends well with the natural sound of the instrument. There are plenty of built-in effects and emulations as well. They're fine in a pinch. I also appreciate the wide range of the 12" speaker. When playing solo jazz the low frequencies are solid, but not overdone. The small size of the unit is also a definite plus.
The downside of this amp is hiss. I think that--no matter what mode you select--signal passes through the internal DSP. Whatever they're using is just a couple of bits too stingy and the result is some quantization hiss. This hiss is also present at the direct out jack. It's not too hard to think away, and isn't likely to be noticed in a club situation. Still, this is the one place that Roland didn't do a first-rate job. All in all, it's a nice amp at an attractive price.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I played this guitar in the store I was amazed on how great the action was. Very easy to play fast runs. When I got it home, I was even more in love with it. The Ibanez locking tremolo is a dream. Plenty of room when your pushing down and pullin up. It rarely goes out of tune even when you break a string. The only problem with this guitar... the pickups. You can tell they're cheap right when you plug it in. I retro-fitted mine with a couple of DiMarzio Blaze pickups. Now it plays great and sounds even better.

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Bass '77, Black Review

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Bass '77, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Squier Vintage Modified '77 Jazz Bass is an inexpensive jazz bass from Indonesia with good features and very good workmanship and is a great value for the money. Although mine was shipped with round-wound strings, I put on half-rounds for a somewhat mellower sound. But if you like rounds, you will love what you hear right out of the box.
The bass is black on black, with 'vintage' knobs, decent tuners, and the standard Fender-type bass bridge. I swapped out the bridge for a Gotoh 201 C and the difference was amazing: added clarity, better tone; and the 201, at $35, is heavy, solid, and inexpensive (from Warmoth). The swap is direct. Be aware that the 201 barrels are bigger than the ones you're replacing; a neck shim may be in order. (Not a big deal.)
A heavy bass, but nicely balanced. I use a broad leather strap with an unfinished underside for good grip, and I have no problems. Pickups are 'Duncan Designed' -- take that for what it's worth. Each alone is unremarkable, but when dialed up together the great, punchy jazz bass tone comes through.
The fretboard is nicely bound in white; fret markers are 'pearloid'; why don't they just call it plastic? The neck is satin-finish maple, narrow but not too shallow, very comfortable. Strap buttons are nice and secure, and all other hardware is snugly in place; nothing stripped, broken, or improperly aligned.
For my money, this is a bass that can do it all. Half-rounds mellow the tone a bit, but I can get a nice deep round tone or an aggressive punch simply by varying attack and juggling pickup tones.
$285 from a wholesaler that has 'sweet' in its name, plus $35 for the new bridge. Great value.

Squier by Fender Classic Vibe Precision Bass 60's, Fiesta Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this bass from the local Guitar Center three months ago and I have to say that it is really an awesome instrument. I have been playing for about six years now and never thought I would buy a Squier. I have a Highway 1 jazz bass that no other bass has come close to in terms of comfort, playability, and sound until now. I really lovethe p-bass tone and I would not be able to guess that this was a squier if you covered up the word squier on the headstock. My only gripe is a minor one, I am used to the satin finish on my Highway 1 so the thicker gloss on the neck of the Squier took a little getting used to. This is an incredible bass. Compared to the cheaper Squiers this thing blows them out of the water. My dad even said I was stupid for getting a Squier, then he played it and was blown away by the quality of this fine instrument. I cannot say enough good things about this instrument. If you are going to buy a p-bass, are looking for quality at a low price, this is what you need.

Dean Palamino Guitar Vintage Sunburst Review

Dean Palamino Guitar Vintage Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted a jazz electric with character and this guitar has that to be sure. It's got a very retro 40s look to it and the P90s (3 of them) have a great sound. In fact I chose it over the Gretsch Electromatic because I thought the DP's sound was more versatile. I feel I could play anything from classic rock, country, boogie to blues on this guitar. Now the downside. The pickguard was incorrectly manufactured and jammed on in a way that was obviously incorrect and potentially damaging to component. The pickguard required dissasembly and some hand work with small tools to make it fit properly. I did it myself only because I didnt feel like waiting a month for the thing to be returned and replaced. I do think that the price is right however, and it is a $100 or two lower than other hollowbody guitars of similar specs. Oh, one more thing--this guitar plays pretty well as an acoustic with a nice thick body, great for practice when you dont feel like connecting an amp. If you order it, look it over pretty well for manufacturing defects. But overall I like this guitar alot.

Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar, Black Review

Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I travel on the road alot for my job...After hanging up my weekend musician career, I wanted to keep my chops alive. Bringing along my regular basses along wasn't an option due to space limitations and the risk of structural damage to the instruments.
What I found in the Steinberger Spirit XT-2 is a really well made and fully functional bass guitar..A neck thru 3 laminate hard maple structure means solid durability, great sustain and exceptional tone...A rosewood fretboard topped with 24 nickel frets makes for very low and smooth, fast action....The neck feel is a cross somewhere between a Rickenbacker 4001 and a Hofner 500/1 Beatle bass...The dual passive soapbar pickups provide a wide range of sound, offering up plenty of punch and growl, as well as balanced highs and lows....Controls include 2 volumes and 1 tone. I usually plug into a SANSAMP Bass DI (which offers up great preshaping prior to my bass rig...eliminating the need for active electronics)
My string preference is GHS stainless steel strings 40-102..A major improvement over the stock nickel strings, as they have a brighter sound for clearer highs and solid tighter lows.....Resulting in an even better sounding bass... Plus I find that stainless strings have a much longer life than nickel strings, due to the fact they resist corrosion from skin acids.
Visually very similar to the original Steinberger XL bass....aside from the previous graphite construction (I actually prefer the maple...for it's warm, sonic qualities)...The weight is substantial considering its compact size...
I really must compliment the makers on the high gloss black paint job.....beautiful and flawless.
If I were to improve on anything...The use of stainless steel jaws and adjuster screws for the bridge (this would greatly improve tuning and tone and are much more durable and longer lasting than regular steel) and a stainless string holder for the headstock...equipped with built in set screws making it compatible with either single or double ball strings (this would be more increase sustain, sustain and string options)....Maybe Steinberger or the aftermarket geniuses can come up with these. Also, I would upgrade to Bartolini passive soapbars and Switchcraft pots and input jack....They are a major improvement over the stock equipment. As another upgrade, I would recommend an ebony fretboard....another big sound improvement.
After reading some negative reviews on this bass, I feel they are unfounded. I have played professionally since 1970 and have owned over 25 basses in my career, including a 75 Rickenbacker 4001; 67 Hofner 500/1; A number of early-late 1970's Fender Presicion and Jazz basses as well as Ovation, Teisco, Danelectro, Ibanez, Hohner and Conrad basses..and many more, So when I compare the feel of the neck ....This little bass can easily hold its own alongside any of them.....AND it's just plain fun to play.
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran....and you are looking for an affordable 1st bass or a portable, compact bass you can take anywhere...Look no further....This is a really awesome bass at a really great price.
The price is unbelievably low...considering what you get....It comes with a nice durable gigbag and for about $69, you can get a Steinberger hardshell case.
I purchased the bass off Amazon thru Music123.....and am very pleased with the folks there...I am a repeat customer and they are a keeper.....Always ready to meet your needs and go beyond the pack to make you smile.....The setup was perfect...Nice low action....I highly recommend "Music123" for all your music needs.

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Precision Bass Maple, Amber
Average Reviews:

I used to have a 1978 Fender Precision with a natural finish and black pickguard that I loved everything about, except that I wished it had a maple fretboard. I sadly had to sell it some years ago. Now a couple of months ago, Squier releases this bass which looks just like my old Fender except it has the maple board that I wished my old one had. Considering I had a good experience with Squier's Vintage Modified Jazz bass, at the price of only $279, I decided to go for it, and I am very happy I did.
It's a great bass, well constructed, plays well and sounds (and looks just as good) as my old '78. The hardware (tuners, bridge) are not cheap looking at all and they do their job,and again the fretwork and satin finished neck make it a joy to play. This bass also has the Duncan designed pickup that the Vintage Modifed line uses, and again it has that old school vintage Fender sound. I highly recommend you give this bass a chance if you're looking for a authentically playing and sounding Precison bass at a reasonable price. As A fan of the Precison bass, I find it to be a winner.

See Video. You cannot find a bass under $300 that will play like this - this is Jaco tone right out of the box! I tweaked the truss rod a bit (lowered the action) and voila! The Duncan Pups sound really good too! I have been playing for 30 years - I have played and owned the best of the best basses including Fender Custom Shop and Fodera - you will not be disappointed in this instrument - Fender really outdid themselves on this inexpensive little Axe. Almost all the Harmony Central reviews are all 9 or 10's! BTW - I am playing thru a Markbass 1X12 combo - recorded with the external Mic on my iPhone - just laying near the amp.

this guitar has nice tone, very good quality for the price range, if i have to choose between Gibson or Godin, i have to pick this one!!
very jazzy/blues sounds especially if you change the stings to 11 or 12 gauge
the acoustic pickup is very useful, you could balance the sound with both electric and acoustic and produce wide variety color.
I would recommend this guitar to anyone!!
