XT-2DB Spirit Standard 4 String Bass (Black) Review

XT-2DB Spirit Standard 4 String Bass (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was an outstanding buy. I saved over $100 purchasing this direct. The product arrived timely and without any damage. I am currently enjoying the bass and it's many features.
The bass is very lightweight due to it's unique body design and lack of a headstock. The bridge tuners are extremely accurate when tuning the instrument. I'm really enjoying the DB tuner feature which allows me to set up an alternate tuning for the low E string. Currently, I've found that this sounds best down to a C# versus all the way down to a B. However, I'm still experimenting with this awesome feature.
The bass holds it's tune extremely well. During a performance or rehearsal, I never have to tune it once it has been initially tuned...even after hours of aggressive play. The only time it needs tuning is after sitting for a day or so and that's to be expected. Even then, the tuning adjustment is usually minor.
My other surprise is how incredible this bass sounds. Even unprocessed, the bass has an incredible vibrant tone. The 2 pickups give you a lot of tonal varieties. The bridge pickup is snappy with a nice subtle rattle to it. The neck pickup is warm and smooth. Both pickups together produce a full rich sound. I ran this unprocessed through a keyboard amp and the pure, unprocessed sound of the 'Berger blew me away. Naturally, this gives a great foundation for using this bass through external signal processing.
This is my first bass and I couldn't be more pleased with my choice.

At this price point you would expect much better quality and setup. Buzzing frets and other issues. I purchased a Rogue 5 string bass for $100 and it had reasonable quality and good setup. No excuse for this. Contacted Washburn and they basically said I should pay to have the frets fixed...right.

DeArmond Ashbory Bass - Black Fretless Mini Bass with Gigbag
Average Reviews:

This is a serious instrument that sounds like an upright bass or a bass guitar depending on how you set the pickups. It is great with the small size but big tone. Go to YouTube and search for and listen to some of the clips. I love my Ashbory! I love my Fender Jazz 1978 bass but as I get older it gets heavier. Ashbory is great to carry on a plane or camping. Play it through a Crate Taxi battery amp and you are ready to make great music!

Sledgehammer 4 String Bass (Ash)

I have a modified version of this instrument. The prior owner had converted it to a fretless by removing the frets (a risky move, but what the heck, it didn't destroy the neck, so,...). I love this instrument. With or without the frets, I can say that the neck feels great, and you can't beat that big fat music man-style humbucker for the tones it gives! If you find one of these, they're well worth the investment.

Schecter Model-T Electric Bass (Butterscotch) Review

Schecter Model-T Electric Bass (Butterscotch)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great looks and even better sound!
The Seymour Duncan pickups are outstanding. They deliver a really strong sound that cuts through in a 5 piece rock band.
The bass itself is very comfortable to play-it balances well on a strap and the neck is very comfortable for me.
The Set-up on the bass was impeccable right out of the box. It was set lower than what I normally use and was almost perfectly in tune when I took it out of the box. I was really impressed by that.
There was only one flaw that I could find. On the front of the bass near the bridge, it seems like something heavy was pressed onto the bass before it was painted. It does not affect the playability of the bass at all and you can only see it up close when you hold it at an angle because the light reflects funny from a small patch thats about 3/4 of an inch by a 1/4 inch.
Overall, this bass is a great value!

this is the one of the best basses in this price range that you can buy. period. great construction and quality. double ball tuning sytstem is awesome. the looks take a little getting used to, but once you do its awesome. the dual emg humbuckers are great. u can get whatever sound u want, from real punchy to mellow tones. the leg rest is kinda useless, and the gig bag provided isnt the best, so if you are going to carry it around i suggest you just use a normal bass gig bag...it works perfectly fine.

The Streamer $$ has the right sound for every situation. Two MEC MM-Style pickups with open pole pieces can make straight drive, but, if required, offers the right sound for slaps and funk - made possible by the ingenious circuitry. Both pickups can be switched in serial, parallel or single coil independently of each other, and the MEC 2-band electronic permits even further effective conditioning of the signal. The body is made of US Swamp Ash, and is ergonomically perfectly shaped, as one would expect from a Streamer. The neck is made of Maple with a fingerboard of Wenge and has 24 frets. The three different finishes available are natural oiled, colour oiled and high polished. AXL Badwater Electric Bass 1 Pickup, Brown Review

AXL Badwater Electric Bass 1 Pickup, Brown
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This AXL Badwater Electric Bass is the best bass that I have ever played in this price range. It sounds wonderful, plays well, and looks fantastic. The build quality is very good on this bass. The tuners stay put and are very secure. The control knobs are very tight, turn easily, and feel very secure. On many P Basses, I have had the problem of not being able to rest my thumb on it well. That is not a very big problem with this bass. The precision style pickup is very comfortable and is easy to rest your thumb on. I had a problem with the bridge, however, one of the screws that adjusts the action was stripped out. I could not change the action on the E string, and it was much to high for my liking. Luckily, when I took it back to the shop, it was covered by the warranty, and repaired instantly and for free. As an added bonus, the shopkeeper adjusted the truss rod, and it plays even better now, and the action adjusts perfectly.
Soundwise, this bass is excellent. It can sound either very round and full (perfect for slap), or it can sound hollow and light, and anything in between is just a turn of the tone knob away. Harmonics are difficult to play. They do not seem to want to come off of the strings. However, with a little practice, harmonics are possible to play, just a little difficult. The 14th fret on the A string buzzes, but it is the only fret that does. Still, it buzzes very much and can sometimes be very annoying.
Before I was able to lower the action and the truss rod got adjusted, the playability of the AXL was about average. Thankfully, after the action was lowered and the truss rod adjusted, the AXL now plays very well. All of the frets can be comfortably reached, and all of the strings can be comfortably plucked. One final minor complaint that I have, is that the neck is rather heavy. I used to play with a cheap, very slippery, nylon strap, and the neck would always slide away from me. However, as soon as I bought a high quality leather strap, with excellent traction, the neck no longer slid.
Do the looks really need a review? This bass looks amazing. The beaten up body and distressed hardware give it that wise old look of worn out music gear. Be warned however, that this bass is not really made of red wood as it appears. The lovely read color is just painted , or stained, onto it. I have accidentally chipped some of the paint off only to reveal just plain old wood underneath. Since that issue is only cosmetic, I would not let it turn you away from this bass. The biggest benefit of the worn out look, is that if you dent or scratch it, the damage will blend right in. I have put several dings into the body of this bass, and guess what, no one can tell that they were accidents.
If money is a factor in your bass buying decision, then the AXL Badwater Electric Bass is one of the best that you can get. If money is not a factor, but you just want a good bass to use a backup, then this is a very good bass. While it may not play like a 1 or 2 thousand dollar bass, it certainly plays better than every other 200 dollar bass I have ever played. No one will regret looking into this excellent bass.

Gibson makes great guitars. Their lower end Epiphone brand has a similar look and sound for a substantially lower price.
This bass is great for beginner/intermediate players and sounds great. You will need a decent sized amp to get a good bass tone. The transparent black is nice looking with a wavy look. The strings that it comes with are not bad, but I changed them after a few weeks. The fretboard is okay, nothing fancy, but the guitar is only $299. At this price range, you are getting good quality and the instrument looks really good. I would recommend playing one at a local guitar store first if possible to make sure it feels and sounds right. You should expect to pay about the same amount on an amp or more if you will playing in a band.

New Quilted Maple Electric Guitar With Double Neck Bass Review

New Quilted Maple Electric Guitar With Double Neck Bass
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took a chance buying this guitar without having tried it out first. I do enjoy playing it. I like being able to switch back and forth from guitar to bass. The action on the bass is pretty good. The guitar neck is not as easy to play as some of my other guitars, but it's not that bad. I may have to make some slight adjustments on the guitar part. The guitar is on the heavy side and may put some stress on your back. I can play pretty good with it sitting down, but standing up with it is a little more awkward because I find that the guitar neck is uncomfortably low. I think if I find a good strap for it and position the guitar a little higher it will help. My only criticism of it is that the necks are kind of close together and my wrist bumps into the tuning keys of the guitar when I play the bass. I doubt I could do a whole show with it because of how heavy it is. For the price, it's really not bad.

Warwick Thumb Bolt-On Neck Bass Guitar, ¹ Review

Warwick Thumb Bolt-On Neck Bass Guitar, andsup1;
Average Reviews:

This bass is superb. I have had plenty of bass guitars, but the Thumb is undeniably the best performing instrument I've owned. Recently having upgraded from the Warwick Corvette, to the Thumb, one major detail that can't be left unsaid, is the weight. The Thumb is noticeably light (especially compared to the heavy Corvette). Even while being on a much higher plain quality wise, this instrument manages to stay paper-light. Believe it or not, I am writing this review a whole four years after my initial purchasing of the Thumb. I am happy to say, over the course of the last four years, I have had ZERO major problems related to this instrument. I highly suggest this guitar for any serious musician, and/or bass enthusiast. Not to mention, you will be hard pressed to not catch some desiring eyes wherever you unveal the thumb..

LightWave Saber Bass VL 5-String Fretless, Transparent Amber Review

LightWave Saber Bass VL 5-String Fretless, Transparent Amber
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bass: Lightwave Saber Bass, VL 5 string, Transparent Amber
First off, the finish. Simply gorgeous. The back of the neck I would describe as a satin finish, very smooth. The color is not quite as yellow as pictured, but rather a richer, mellow, sun shining on fields of golden wheat, or what a posh interior decorator might call burnt umber, hints of orange are very strong. Visually, I get comments all the time when I'm gigging about what a beautiful bass it is, and they're correct. Plus, if you missed it, that little half moon towards the top of the body is actually a sound hole of sorts. It's what I describe as a semi hollow body, which I think just adds to it's intrigue.
When I ordered the bass, since it was a fretless, I also ordered some Thomastik-Infeld flatwound bass strings, to really accentuate that smooth fretless sound. The range of tone I'm still learning to master, it's not your typical tone setup with knobs, so it takes a little playing around with to really dial in your tone, but it's there.
(One thing that intrigues me about using light sensors to pick up string vibration rather than magnetic, is that I don't believe I'm confined to using strictly metallic strings. And I love the Thomastik-Infeld flatwound bass strings, but I was toying around with the idea of maybe putting on some real cat gut or synthetic strings.)
Playability is great. Occasionally while out on a gig, I'll let one of my friends get up and play, not even warning them they are stepping into a fretless. Since it's a lined fretless, it's very easy to see exactly where you are at, and I've even heard from a few friends after they didn't even realize it was a fretless until I pointed it out. The action came from the factory nice and low, I haven't had to adjust anything there, and the weight of the instrument, since it is this "semi hollow body" type of construction, it's very light, especially when compared to my 5 string Music Man Sting Ray.
The down side - if you like to pop and slap, I'd say stick with a fretted version of this instrument, since I have yet to really see a fretless popped and slapped well. I think you need that fretted connection to really get the tone from that style of playing. Also, this bass has a built in rechargeable battery, which lasts surprisingly long on a charge. The down side there is you always make sure you have the charger with you (just in case) it starts to run out during a gig. You can't swap batteries, but you can charge it while you are playing with it. The charging cord is very long, so you can move around on stage a little while it is charging back up, and charge times are pretty quick, 15-30 minutes will give you enough charge for the rest of the gig.
Changing strings - probably the biggest learning curve for me was figuring out this process. And don't misunderstand me, the physical act of changing the string is the same as on any other bass. The caveat here, is that since you've put on a new string, the optical sensor now has to be adjusted for optimal signal output. The bass comes with instructions that explain the process, the back panel must be removed to allow access to the trim pots, and you'll probably spend an hour with it the first time you change your strings trying to figure out how it works, it's not something you'll be doing in between songs at a gig. At least, not the first time. But since I don't play hard, I never break my strings, so this confronts me very seldom.
Over all, the looks are fantastic, has great playability, lots of room to craft the tone you want, light weight means hours of playing at a gig without back fatigue, and the analog signal from the light sensors maybe the truest sound replication you'll ever get from your electric. I love this bass...

Rogue LX200BL Series II Left-Handed Bass Guitar, Candy Apple Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This bass is incredible, especially because it cost so little compared to other more expensive basses. This bass cost me $120.00,and I even had enough money to buy a case for it all in one order.Being left handed,I ordered a left handed bass. That way my knobs and cord jack is on the bottom as normal. However,I play a bass with the E string on the bottom,in other words I play a right handed bass upsidedown. So I have to have a new nut put on the headstock and the strings switched around for my unique playing style. My previous bass is already switched and I love it.This one here, isn't switched yet but will be soon.I have played on it though and the sound is awesome. Two volume controls and two tone controls, plus two pickups.Headstock is configured two and two so switching is easy.I have the candy apple red and it looks awesome. The body is as a P bass, but the little horn to me,seems to be smaller which I like.I reccommend this bass right handed or left handed to anyone that wants a good quality bass for a fraction of the cost of the expensive ones.
