Hagstrom HL550 Electric Jazz Guitar (Black Gloss) Review

Hagstrom HL550 Electric Jazz Guitar (Black Gloss)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is absolutely gorgeous and sounds amazing. Needs the fret ends filed down, not a big deal but I kinda expect perfect "everything" after all these years as a guitar consumer. Well worth the money. Big acoustic sound, dark electric sound due to only one floating pick-up ( I'm not a jazz player). Would be 5 stars if it weren't for the fret edges.....Don't let that stop you from purchasing one. This is a great guitar!

Shipping was on time and the guitar arrived pristine in a golden-tweed hard case. I purchased the all natural spalted maple ES 335 and it is an amazing piece of workmanship. A beauty to the eyes, this guitar has a very sweet sound and the action is low and light, just the way I like it. The tuners are very fluid and precise. I consider this guitar the very best value for the money and highly recommend it to professionals as well as casual players, this is a true bargain !!

G6118T Limited Edition 125th Anniversary Hollowbody Electric Guitar (Jaguar Tan) Review

G6118T Limited Edition 125th Anniversary Hollowbody Electric Guitar (Jaguar Tan)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After having just recorded with this guitar, I still can't decide if it is more beautiful to listen to or to look at... the pictures simply do not do it justice, this is an absolutely beautiful combination of super cool design and solid workmanship, but the sounds it can make are just as breath-taking. Much warmer and fuller than other Gretsch hollowbodys when playing jazz, but able to stand up and shout like a Gretsch on blues or rock when it needs to.
In one word this is a "keeper," an instant family heirloom that your grandkids some day will be inspired to learn to rock it like their old man's old man!!
(at least that is what I'm hoping for)

In celebration of the 125th anniversary of Gretsch and a legacy that has lasted five decades, the tradition of the "anniversary" model continues. To commemorate this historic event, a very special instrument was created that is sure to be an instant classic. Combining time-tested Gretsch elements from the past with new features, the 125th Anniversary model has an ultra-rare Jaguar Tan top, with metallic gold back and sides. The body is made of three-play laminated maple for the utmost resonance and tone. Two key individuals in the Gretsch story recently designed a new scalloped bracing specifically voiced for Gretsch guitars. The new "ML" bracingwhich stands for Gretsch guitar designers Masao Terada and Mike Lewismakes its debut on the 125th "Annie". This construction synchronizes the vibration of the top and back, with increased acoustical openness in tone. Accentuating the tone of the new ML bracing are a pair of TV Jones PowerTron pickups, pinned rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic bridge and a Bigsby B6C vibrato tailpiece. Just to anyone who's looking at this, The G6120SSU model number indicates a urithane finish, not a laquer finish. The laquer finish model number is G6120SSL for the tiger stripped version and the usual price is $3100. If you buy this one, make sure you verify which one is being sent. I don't have an opinion on weather a laquer finish is any better then a urithane finish, but I would love the guitar either way!!!

Epiphone Emperor Swingster Hollowbody Electric Guitar, Trans Black Review

Epiphone Emperor Swingster Hollowbody Electric Guitar, Trans Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This axe is awesome! After checking out multiple hollowbodies, I narrowed down my choices between this and the Gretsch G5120 which sells for the same price. The main things that sold me on this guitar that differ from the Gretsch are the Bigsby wire arm, the roller bridge, and the pickups. The wire arm is more useful than the standard flat one because you can hold it while picking. The roller bridge keeps the strings in perfect tune. (Seriously... I can't get this thing to go OUT of tune! It holds a tune better than my strat w/ locking tuners!!) The series/parallel pickup switching is also a great bonus, offering a limitless array of tone. And the thin profile neck allows you play a little faster, surprisingly. I'm not usually a fan of Epiphone, but this isn't just another Gibson copy. This guitar is unique to the brand and they really nailed it on this one. It does not feel as inexpensive as it is, and I would even go as far to say that this is better than many of the Gibson hollowbodies I checked out. My only issue with it: good luck finding a case that fits with the wire arm because I can't find one anywhere in retail stores or on the internet. I have a thick acoustic gig bag that works just fine, but thumbs down on Epiphone for not making a matching case for this. Even still, that's only a minor setback... just get a nice gig bag and don't throw it around. Overall, this guitar is AMAZING... Amazing value, craftsmanship, features, playability, and tone!

The Epiphone Emperor Swingster features archtop jazz guitar styling and updated electronics including SwingBucker pickups with push/pull tone controls that allows a choice of standard series or parallel pickup wiring for a brighter tone. The Swingster guitar has a shorter 24-3/4" scale that helps facilitate challenging jazz chord inversions. The body features a spruce top, a laminated birch/maple body and a 3-piece maple neck topped with a rosewood fingerboard. Other vintage features of this hollowbody electric guitar include chrome hardware, Grover Rotomatic 16:1 tuners, bound f-holes, thumbnail fingerboard Inlays, and a Bigsby licensed vibrato tailpiece with wire arm along with a "pinned" (non-floating) Tune-O-matic Bridge with roller saddles for smooth operation and accurate return to pitch which is preferred when using the vibrato. Hagstrom Viking II UltraLux Left-Handed Electric Guitar (Cosmic Black Burst) Review

Hagstrom Viking II UltraLux Left-Handed Electric Guitar (Cosmic Black Burst)
Average Reviews:

I Now own TWO Hagstrom Ultralux Viking II's.
My other is a Viking IIP & I just adore the Mother-of-Pearl inlay names on the Headstock.
The High Quality Craftsmanship in every detail! I was concerned since Hagstrom closed their doors in '83 & these new Lovely Beasts are now being built in China! Make no concern in your mind because the workmanship is STILL there!
All the products are high quality from the Canadian Maple wood to the Highly Tooled components.
I was told that purchasing a Guitar from a company like Amazon would cause me to acquire a SECOND that came from a clearing house. WRONG in every way!
This Hag still had the plastic protection sheeting over the pickups and pick guard!
There was no component that was NOT original and this Hag had not even a finger print on him!
Amazon is my one stop shopping and has been since I was stationed, with the Navy, overseas a decade ago!
I registered my Hagstrom right away on [...] using the serial number found on every Hagstrom on it's Silver Serial Plate found on the back of the body near the neck.
HAVE NO FEAR purchasing the Best Hollow Body Guitar from Amazon!
Left-Handers finally have a place to find their guitars!

Hagstrom Viking Electric Guitar (Tobacco Sunburst) Review

What a wonderful guitar. For the money you simply cannot find an equal, in my opinion. Mine came set up very nicely with no needed adjustments. Fit and finish was flawless. Stays in tune extremely well - played a gig with it the first weekend I got it and did not have to re-tune a single time. I cannot see paying an extra $2000 for the Gibson name. Truly makes no sense unless name is that important to you. For what it's worth, I just found out that it was a Gold Level award recipient for Overall Value by Guitar World Magazine.
I have been playing for 25 years and have owned/ played a lot of guitars - PRS, Fender Strats, Parker, Gibson ES-335, Peavey HP Special (top of the line & another great, yet underrated guitar), Godin 5th Avenue, Martin D-28, Ibanez, and others I cannot think of right now. This is a guitar that I will most likely never get rid of. My only criticism is that they should price it to include a hardshell case, which I had to order separately ($95).

This is one of the most fun guitars I have ever played. Every time I pick up this instrument I get inspired to write a new melody. The 175 feels and sounds wonderful. It requires a little more maintenance than a solid body electric and a little more TLC but it is well worth the effort. This is a quality instrument. Just putting one in your lap will make you want to be a better player. You will feel your way around melodies and you will want to experiment with different chord voicing.

Hagstrom Swede Tremar Electric Guitar (White) Review

Hagstrom Swede Tremar Electric Guitar (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar looks amazing, quite amazing actually, the features sounded amazing also when I read them, BUT when I got the guitar I was horrified at the quality of this guitar. I normally and usually play american fender strats, gibsons, etc. Attended Berklee College of Music for a master in guitar so i've played MANY guitars and I must say i've felt squier's better constructed than this guitar. As soon as I received the guitar I took it to a professional repair shop and was told to return the guitar because i'd put more money into fixing it than the guitar is worth. The tremolo bar was horribly attached to the body, the tuners on the thing felt cheap, one of the tone knobs didn't work, a toggle switch didn't work, the other toggle switch made horrible noises when switching humbuckers, the frets were sticking out too far on the neck causing me to cut my fingers when trying to slide. I returned it immediately and had to eat the shipping costs. I wouldn't recommend this guitar if it was two dollars and same quality, it's not worth the money, for the price go buy a guitar worth value.

Normandy ATGHT-OB Archtop Guitar, Anodized, Obsidian Review

Normandy ATGHT-OB Archtop Guitar, Anodized, Obsidian
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Not quite as mellow-sounding as most hollowbodies, this guitar has more of a Les Paul growl, with a huge booming bassy sound at the neck pickup, and shimmery, twangy highs at the bridge. Maybe there's just a little resonator-like twang in there? I'm not sure if I'm imagining it, if there is, it's subtle. The aluminum is lightweight-- this guitar weighs about the same as my telecaster, and is cold to the touch, at first, but has a nice satiny feel that doesn't show fingerprints-- which is why I chose an anodized over the chrome finish, I hate seeing fingerprints on my guitars, and am unable to prevent them from occuring. The neck is slick and fast, and the factory set-up was ok. There was no relief set in the neck, so the strings were buzzing at the low frets. A little truss-rod adjustment fixed that problem right up.
I like unusual guitars, which is why I originally bought this, because it was metal, but I'm just blown away by the sound. Absolutely fantastic, I'm not trading this baby for anything.
Definitely a great, unique guitar that is equal to any in it's price range-- but make sure to get a professional setup done on it as soon as you get it!

Ten Reasons to Own a Normandy Guitar
The Look – From the classic arch top curves of the body, to the vintage Bigsby-vibrato tailpiece, to the distinctive rivets front and back, there is simply no other guitar like it.
The Sound – The resonant, aircraft-grade aluminum body produces smooth, warm tones that ring true and long. Sustain is increased significantly when compared to that of a conventional wooden guitar body.
The Feel –The Normandy weighs 8.6-pounds, which is roughly the same (or less) than most other electric guitars. It maintains perfect balance when on a strap, and is so accommodating that you may just be able to go at it all night.
The Durability – This is a deceivingly solid piece of equipment. You may be able to snap the neck, but the body will stand up to the most aggressive punk-inspired outbursts.
The Neck – Our maple-on-maple and rosewood-on-maple necks are shaped close to what you would find on an old-school jazz guitar – not too fat…not too thin.
The Pickups – Normandy Old School-Humbuckers with Alnico 5 magnets are overwound to 12K ohms for higher output, powerful midrange and driving tone.
The Craftsmanship – Normandy Guitars are made one at a time with quality and durability as our foremost concerns; they are built to stand the test of time from one gig to the next.
The Finish – The Chrome guitar is triple-electroplated, the School Bus and Army Green guitars are powder coated using a special baked-on finish and the Candy Apple Metal Flake finishes are far superior to the standard paint, stain, or varnish typically found on guitars. Whatever the color, the appearance will outshine that of any guitar you've ever seen.
The Service – Normandy offers a warranty against defective materials and workmanship for the life of the guitar (check with the vendor for details). Normandy takes pride in every one of their instruments playing its very best right out of the box.
Add it all up – Custom, boutique styling and quality that every player can afford.

Hagstrom HJ800 Electric Jazz Guitar (Vintage Sunburst) Review

Hagstrom HJ800 Electric Jazz Guitar (Vintage Sunburst)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like my HJ800.
Solid spruce top for 50$ more than the HJ600 w/ laminant top. Go figure.
I boiled my choice of the HJ800 down to a close call tonally with a Gibson Herb Ellis that I tried along side, as well as a similiar Eastman, and a few other cheapies.
The Gibson felt nicest in my hand and sounded great. But has no tone adjustment, only one volume. I loved it.
The HJ800 sounded very good comparitively, although slightly brighter, and with much more tonal adjustability.
I am already glad that I decided on the HJ800, for 1/3 the price of the Gibson.
The Eastman wasnt deep toned enough for what i wanted.
I really like it. I play in a jazz trio. Been playing blues/rock for 30 years, more bossanova and jazz for last 7 years.

Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar, Black Review

Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Twone is the combination of 'twang' and 'tone.' A Gretsch hallmark. When they coined the phrase, "That Great Gretsch Sound," they weren't kidding.
This is a Made In Korea 'Electromatic' Gretsch.
I paid $630 out the door and then bought a case for another $100. This is troublesome, no other case will fit unless you are comfortable with adding piece of foam.
The controls are typical Gretsch, one tone and three volumes knobs, one being a master volume. It has knurled strap buttons, open backed tuners, very nice thick binding, thumbnail fret markers and an Adjust-O-Matic bridge.
Check the foot of the rosewood base - the fit of this foot is a huge component in overall tone. Mine had a twist and was hard to make it flush to the body top.
I ended up replacing it with a 'Rocking Bar Bridge,' ($55 bridge and ebony base) which made a dramatic difference in sound. The foot of the new base is ebony and much smaller. It makes superb contact. The lack of moving saddles also adds to the tone. Intonation was a snap.
I would suggest applying rosin to the base of the bridge to prevent any slippage. Some will pin the bridge, but I'd rather not hole the guitar top.
The Bigsby is difficult to restring if you've never owned one before. Once used to making a pre-bend to the strings, it becomes routine. Some use a capo to keep a constant pressure applied. As a vibrato, it works very well.
It suffers from moderate feedback as it is a true hollowbody. This is where the master volume comes into play, so to speak.
The nut seems to stick, I applied graphite and that seems to have alleviated the problem of sticking strings when tuning.
I use light gauge strings (009s), which doesn't make it any easier. I suspect it will be replaced when I go for a set up.
The spectrum of available sounds are amazing. It has twang and then some. With OD it will get creamy like any other humbucker. The middle position of the pickup switch has an overall neck heavy sound but I found by moving my picking hand (duh) closer to the bridge added a considerable amount of light to the mix.
I have a Strat, an SG and this G5122 in my electric stable. I have not picked up the Gibson nor the Fender since I bought this at the beginning of June.
An incredible value with a sound to match.

I Own this Guitar! And I have to say.. this [...] is Baddass. I mean the chrome is just amazing. surprisingly light ,beautifully put together, the neck is killer and the kill switch is gnarly! Ive toured the country a bunch and wish I had this one for every show, its the ULTIMATE stage guitar! When I pull it out of the case people just freak I mean people just freak out! it looks so sweet! Players look at it with there mouth open, hold it, play it, and then say where t f**ck can I get one!? The sustain is foooorrrreeeeevvveeeerrrrrrrr! the tone is deep and cool, rich...not twangy or hollow like some metal guitars and with the Hum 57 pickups this things got balls 2 the wall. The cash is alot to lose these days but the Normandy is worth the doe. I cant say enough, this is a piece of Art and it plays like a dream, It will be one of your favorite guitars I have to tell you... its mine.. with out a doubt.
A proud owner of this Awesome Instrument,
Huck Johns

Epiphone ES-333 Tom Delonge Signature Archtop Electric Guitar Review

Epiphone ES-333 Tom Delonge Signature Archtop Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overview: I am a Huge Blink-182 fan and this guitar is awesome. Even if you are their biggest fan this guitar still sounds cool.
Ease of use: There is one knob, it can't get much easier!
Sound: There is one hum-buckle pickup which gets ride of all other sound leaving just the tone of the guitar. there is one knob on the guitar and that is the volume knob. The semi hollow body gives the guitar a more distorted sound naturally and if you listen to the song Rock Show by Blink-182 that is essentially what the guitar sounds like with its volume almost all the way up. With the volume down from 1-3 the distortion disappears leaving a nice sounding warm tone.
Look: Well I think it looks pretty cool personally. There is no pick guard but the strings are high off the pickup so it really isn't needed. The wood is all polished and looks great.
The one thing about this guitar I do not like is the strap placement. The strap placement makes the guitar unbalanced to the point that if you let go with the fretting hand it will tip significantly. But other than that this a very cool somewhat versatile guitar. If you like rock and punk you will like playing this guitar.
