Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Deluxe Memory Man is the pedal that was made famous by The Edge's sound in U2 as well as countless other musicians who have relied on this analog delay. Analog delay pedals are preferred over digital delays for their "warm" sound, actually caused in part by the deterioration of the high-end frequencies of the signal as the repeats continue. This slight change over time in the delay sounds more natural to the ear than the "carbon copy" repeats of digital delays, which sound exactly the same each repeat.
Each analog delay pedal sounds slightly different, and many people prefer the sound of the DMM. This is supposedly due to a certain classic chip that is used in this pedal. I have compared this to a MXR Carbon Copy, which is about half the price and a much smaller footprint. I liked the Carbon Copy, but I like the DMM much better. Another good feature it has is the modulation. You can set it to vibrato or chorus, and you can determine the amount of modulation. The modulation sounds pretty good, and it only affects the repeats.
The main downside is it needs its own power supply, and it has a very large footprint. The fact that it remains so popular despite these two major negatives (and its price) tells you what a good pedal it is. However, you may wish to wait for the upcoming "XO" Deluxe Memory Man, which is coming out quite soon and should be the same pedal in a smaller package.

Experience the analog edge. Nothing can compare to the organic sound of analog delay, and no one does analog like the Deluxe Memory Man! EMG KH20 Kirk Hammett Active Pickup Set with Pickguard Review

EMG KH20 Kirk Hammett Active Pickup Set with Pickguard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went back and forth on buying this active pickup set for a few weeks. Amazon had a great deal on it one day and I finally decided to purchase and test it out. I'm glad I did!
The packaging, documentation, and components are all very high quality. It comes with everything you need for installation, including pickguard screws (I didn't know this).
The single coils really do retain that Strat sound, and the EMG 81 is awesome for heavier riffs/songs. This pickup set provides a lot of flexibility. One day I may post some sound clips to my website.
Installation was pretty easy in a Fender Squire Affinity Strat. The body cavity wasn't deep enough for the battery, so I needed to route out about a half inch below the knobs. I used a Dremel for this with a router bit and a cutting bit. There was NO soldering involved - everything connects to a circuit board underneath the knobs. Very cool.
I highly recommend this pickup set.

Electro-Harmonix Stereo Polychorus Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Stereo Polychorus Pedal
Average Reviews:

This is a great chorus pedal, except the expensive out-weighs the greatness.
EH pedals need to bring their prices down a tad
other than that an awesome pedal.
I play bass through it and it works great.
So really great for whatever instrument you want to run through it. Many knob configuration can also let you get some weird sounds out of it.

The final word in chorus pedals. The classic that Kurt Cobain and Adrian Belew relied on to create their signature sounds. The Stereo Poly Chorus provides the lushest stereo chorus, rich chiming flange, and the over-the-edge effects that made this versatile pedal legendary.

Electro-Harmonix Tube Zipper Review

Awsome pedal........not for everyone. I use this with a tube amp and is unreal the freaky sounds you can get. The key with this pedal is the up down switch which controls the direction of the Q. Every time you move the switch you must change the frequency knobs to get the sound you like. Great for wah flutters, scooped wah filter sounds, and all out mayhem. If your looking for a normal wah this is not it, if you want to be different this is a great pedal.

Unzip your soul! Just picture your guitar signal being massaged by a complex set of filters moving through a vacuum tube maze. Energized by two 12AX7EH tubes, the Tube Zipper's patented moving filter gang tastefully adds controlled analog harmonics to your signal. In typical EH fashion, each control can be set over-the-edge, generating a host of novel tones. Tron or Trill a la mode!

Electro-Harmonix HOG Synthesizer Review

Electro-Harmonix HOG Synthesizer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just got my HOG today, and although I cant give a thorough review of the product I will give you mi first impressions.
I cant give a thorough review mainly because this is an instrument in itself and will require months of use to master it... perhaps years! I own a Micro Synth and it is far less complicated and it took me a whole year to really get comfortable with it, and I'm still learning new sounds and new techniques each time I use it.
Unlike the Micro Synth this is polyphonic and tracks full chords. However I've found that it tracks 3 strings better, sometimes 6 string chords fart out a little.
Picking chords quickly can also produces some unwanted motor-boating. But with the right setting and the right technique it sounds pretty awesome, and they arent hard to do. I'm not that great of a guitar player and I found it right off.
The expression pedal makes it the most fun of all. Freeze + Gliss being the most notable.
Now I can do away with my crappy Jim Dunlop volume pedal and I dont have to get the EHX Freeze (since this has both functions).
Over all its pretty easy to use and very noob friendly.

Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai Delay Looper Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai Delay Looper Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although all the rest of my pedals are analog, I thought I would go for this little puppy for the following reasons: 1) I was looking for a delay with tap ability to create a nice shimmering sound that would complement the other guitarist in our band. This has tap functionality and up to 3 seconds of delay time. 2) It comes with the ability to modulate your sound to some extent, creating chorus and flange-like effects. 3) It has a boat load of other functions, like loops, reverse effects, etc. 4) It's programmable. 5) I like Electro Harmonix products in general. 6) It's relatively inexpensive for what it has. 7) It has stereo-ins and outs. 8) It doesn't suck tone and signal strength. 9) It looks great.
I guess you could see this as a list of the pedals "pros." Thus far I've tested in out for only 2 hours or so, but it's lived up to my expectations. It actually has way more functionality than I wanted, but I'm looking forward to exploring and creating new sounds. For about two hundred, this is a great deal.
There are a few "cons" and they are: (1) It takes a while to learn how to use. The manual is _essential_ here. Right off the bat it tells you how to get a simple delay. I demo'd it in the store (Guitar Center) and I couldn't figure out how to get it to work. It was creating all sorts of crazy loops and I couldn't even shut the loops off! It was totally going crazy! So, if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't mess with this pedal. Fortunately, the manual looks very clear and although long (10 pages or more?) I think after I read through all of it I'll be clear on things. Actually, the fact that the pedal was going crazy when I demo'd it was cool, because now I know I can do all that crazy stuff (not that I'd really use that in a gig).
(2) It's only adaptor-powered, no possibility of battery use.
(3) It's digital. If you absolutely must have an analog delay, then you might check out the new MXR Carbon Copy, which is a bit cheapter, is smaller and is analog. Everyone says it's a great pedal. However, it can't do any of the other cool jazz this baby can do, and doesn't have tap tempo. Or for more money -- about three hundred -- you can get the analog Memory Man which everyone raves about. Or a Maxon delay. But the sound on this is close enough for me, and the analog delays don't have the features this one has.
(4) You can't switch presets with your foot. You have to bend down and turn the Hazarai (white) knob. You could raise the pedal to where you could reach it with your hand, but then you can't stomp on it (for the tap tempo). I'm not sure what to do with this conundrum just yet. Probably I'll only have 2-3 presets that I'll use in a gig and I'll just have to reach down and turn it when I have to?
In conclusion, I did a fair amount of research on delay pedals and demo'd a few in stores. For the money, I think this is a good pedal. It has 2 extra knobs more than a usual delay pedal (not counting the Hazarai knob) and that lets you adjust your sound to make it more analog-like or add some reverb-like effect, which is neat. It's functional, wacky if you want it to be, and it looks great!
* * *
Edit: I have now owned this pedal for about three months. It is great, and has loads of possibilities. Only thing I miss about it, is that it lacks an easy way to switch presets (you have to bend down and turn the Hazarai knob and push it, which you can try to do with your feet, but it's pretty hard!). No regrets about buying it though.

Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Tremendous reverb, lots of options and controls, actually will work as an echo unit. The Cathedral is not a simple, "set a couple of controls and go" deal, the more time you spend learning about how actual reverberatio works: pre-delay, how tone is affected in the reverberation field, etc. -- the better off you'll be, and the better you'll sound.
Has the ability to store and access pre-sets, which is truly useful (more than one would be nice, but then it would be a much more complex pedal) but probably the coolest thing for me is the "infinite" feature. I'm in a three-piece band, and when I start a song, I can set a nice lush reverb, play a chord or get some note(s) feeding back, then hold the infinite button down, and play over the "wash". It's quite an awesome sound; the wash just continues on and on and the un-reverberated guitar plays over it. Sweet. Goes back to normal reverb operation when you take your foot off the button.
I'd buy it again, but I need some time to work on it and "find" the pre-sets for different songs.Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal

Electro-Harmonix Ring Thing Modulator Guitar Effects Pedal Review

I always wanted to explore a ring modulator. This is not a one-trick pony thou. You have a tunable ring mod, tremolo, pitch shifter, upper band mod, low band mod along with a few weird things in between. This is a fun pedal for exploring non-traditional modulation applications. If you want a safe pretty effect, this may not suit your taste. This pedal goes beyond metal. It's electric guitar synthesis. Bell tones, sci-fi sounds, ethnic timbres. If you're looking for something new in sound, this is it.

Some possible samples and settings you can create with the EHX Ring Thing: Vibe-A-Tone: a control setting that produces a chorus/tremolo/vibrato effect Baritone guitar: thanks to pristine polyphonic pitch shifting, you can transform a standard tuned guitar into a baritone guitar or a 6-string bass Drop tuning with distortion: dropping a regularly tuned guitar down to B with the EHX Ring Thing and adding a distortion pedal afterwards produces a huge sound Tremolo bar effects: adding an expression foot pedal to the Electro-Harmonix Ring Thing produces classic dive-bomb effects using any electric guitar The Ring Thing guitar pedal set for two octaves above...
