Sledgehammer 4 String Bass (Ash) Review

Sledgehammer 4 String Bass (Ash)

I have a modified version of this instrument. The prior owner had converted it to a fretless by removing the frets (a risky move, but what the heck, it didn't destroy the neck, so,...). I love this instrument. With or without the frets, I can say that the neck feels great, and you can't beat that big fat music man-style humbucker for the tones it gives! If you find one of these, they're well worth the investment.

Kona Select 5 String Exotic Wood Electric Bass Guitar Review

I wish someone had reviewed this bass before I bought it, I wouldn't have hesitated! It is reminicent of a warwick with lovely sapele mahogony top shaped to fit the body, and a wide fret board. The strings are large and amply spaced and very easy to finger, hammer on and pull off. This bass really melts in your hands, with robust knarly vibrations that adds that special dimension to 5 string bass! There's a likeness to playing an old Fender, the way the strings almost stretch under your fingers and really growl. Excellent active electronics, infinite tonal control, little left to desire. Through a Rumble 100, it'll really shake the house.
This bass can be purchased at an affordable price by careful scrutiny, less than $400, so it's an excellent value. 10 year warrenty from Kona is a good deal too. I've read about basses that almost "play themselves" and this is one!

Johnson Delta Rose Archtop Electric Guitar Review

Johnson Delta Rose Archtop Electric Guitar

I just bought the Delta Rose. I was too influenced by other reviews. You get what you pay for, and this guitar is equal to the price. It doesn't have the versatility it is reputed to have. It is ok for light jazz or blues, with a clean setting. The guitar is well put together. The top is a laminate, something to be expected in this price range. It is supposedly maple and spruce. It sounds more like mahogany than maple. Not very bright in sound. The neck is comfortable, but the action is a little high. Nothing that can't be adjusted easily. I am definitely replacing the EMG designed pickups. The three position switch is functional, but the neck pickup output is sub par. Finish on the guitar is good. You have to look very close to find the places that could have used more buffing before the final finish was applied. If I had heard this guitar before purchase, I wouldn't have bought it. But that is the chance you take buying mail order. The bottom line, I got what I paid for.

Delta RoseThe Johnson Delta Rose is the new standard for that big hollowbody sound in a smaller profile. Versatile and unique, this guitar shines in rock, jazz, blues, and more. The spruce top and maple body, combined with the punchy humbuckers, give this guitar a deep, meaty tone. The combination of the superb tonewoods, along with the dual humbuckers, gives the Delta Rose the ability to go from a soft purr to a full growl. The Johnson Delta Rose hollowbody shines in any setting and consistently rewards players with its big tone.Specifications (JH-100)Body: Maple Neck: Set-In Mahogany Fretboard: Rosewood Finish: Vintage Sunburst Inlay: Dot Bridge: Tune-O Matic Tuners: Die-Cast Pickups: Dual Humbuckers Controls: Volume & Tone perPickup, 3-Way Switcvh Neck Joint: Set Neck Joint Location: 19th Radius: 16" Nut, Width: 1-11/16" Tailpiece: Stopbar Scale Length: 24.75" Total Length: 42"
