Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar, Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar, Vintage Sunburst

As far as I'm concerned, this is exactly what acoustic guitars should sound like. You might find more silky or strident highs elsewhere, or more punchy lows from an old martin, and there are plenty of other guitars that excel at one particular element of timbre and tone (though you'd likely pay much more for them), but the advanced jumbo is the complete package! Balanced, delicate, powerful, and resonant, with enveloping depth and richness. Everything comes through clearly, no dominant strings or chords. The tones are nicely complex without getting confused or muddled. The neck is on the thin side which some people may dislike, but it's not anemic. Binding over the fret ends was sloppily finished between the heel and soundhole, and the plastic bridge pins and strap peg seem a little cheaply made, but both are easily remedied. Looking at it, it's about like you'd expect a $2000 acoustic to be. Close your eyes and play, and those little things are quickly forgotten. Beautiful. You can't come close to this kind of sound without paying a heck of a lot more.

Recording King Contemporary Series II Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar (Rosewood) Review

Recording King Contemporary Series II Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar (Rosewood)

This is my 4th Recording King purchased, my Series II 000 style RO-27 impressed me so much, I felt 1 just wasn't enough. This arrived very quickly, as did the others, with free shipping option, well packaged & intact. When I opened it the pickguard was curled up on the inside & outer edge. I'm fairly sure the cold weather while in transit did that. Since this is a fairly expensive model, I immediately contacted Amazon & they had another ready to replace this one. My printer malfunctioned so I wasn't able to print the return sticker, in that time I thought it over some more. The guitar was completely intact & drop dead gorgeous, other than that curled pickguard. I contacted Amazon to find out what the charge would be if I just kept mine & the soon to be shipped replacement. They then told me I could keep the one I have & they would credit a discount to my account. I pealed the pickguard the rest of the way off & there was no damage to the finish underneath, so I took them up on their offer. I SURE am glad I. This guitar plays smoothly & sounds fabulous. Customer service is so great at Amazon I prefer buying from them than to risk the standing in lines - near combative discussions that most of the big box stores have stooped to. They could learn much from Amazon in that department. 5 stars fit this purchase I LOVE this guitar & Amazon has earned one very satisfied customer's loyalty yet again. I can't & won't fault Recording King for the lifted pickguard either, with the realization that they don't use a more permanent bond because some customers would rather not have it on such a beautiful piece of wood. I could salvage the original .. but it is so beautiful without it & the sound hole rosette seems more accentuated, I doubt if it will go back on. I have my RD 16 & 17 CFEs if I feel like pick playing. When I can spend my money & feel the need to say THANKS Amazon & Recording King.. that speaks volumes.

RainSong Hybrid Series H-DR1100N2 Dreadnought acoustic with N2 neck Review

RainSong Hybrid Series H-DR1100N2 Dreadnought acoustic with N2 neck
Average Reviews:

I was at a jam last Sunday night with half a dozen other dreadnoughts pounding away and I was able to cut through lead lines even though I had my H-DR1100N2 strung with relatively wimpy strings (Elixir Polyweb 11's). There were many comments on how nice and big it sounded. I now really appreciate the slightly brighter tone it projects up to the player (I love Polyweb strings for their lack of squeaks, but the dull tone can get annoying when practicing).
My bottom line on the Hybrid: nice conventional looks, no slide out of your lap Ovation effect (all other manufacturer's composite guitars do this), very loud by wooden guitar standards, great tone by wooden guitar standards (traditional RainSong customers will likely prefer the older all graphite models), excellent build quality, so light that other guitarists just want to hold it up to be amazed, a truss rod for us perfectionists, and all the convenience of composite materials (humidity/heat indifference).

The Hybrid Series combines Carbon fiber with Glass fiber construction to achieve the signature RainSong sound and road tough stability at an attractive price point. The Dreadnought is the traditional workhorse of acoustic guitar music. With a large, deep body and wide waist, RainSong's DR has the powerful bass and ringing treble of a great rhythmic guitar, but still maintains a wonderfully balanced sound, with clear distinction among individual notes. From rhythm to lead, the DR makes its presence known. Capable of cutting through admirably in any acoustic setting, the DR is loud enough to compete with banjoes, mandolins and other traditional volume hogs. The N2 neck is a result of an extensive, long-term collaboration with the renowned artist Steve Miller (www.stevemillerband.com) and Master Luthier John Bolin (www.bolinguitars.com).The neck design is based on a modified 'U" profile that has been popular in guitars since the 1950s.The N2 has a substantial feel that is ergonomically sound and results in better transfer of string vibration energy to the soundboard. The N2 features a truss rod that is accessible from the head stock.Graphite does not warp or bow with changes in humidity and temperature. The purpose of a truss rod in the N2 is to allow customization of the relief to suit individual preferences.

If your looking for comfort and playability this is a good one to consider. The neck is very comfortable and the sound is very good; particularly with amplification. I can play diverese styles on this guitar even some classical pieces without strain. The price includes a durable case from rainsong. I like the look of wood better, but the guitar is nice to play!

The RainSong Orchestra Model is the smallest and most refined of all RainSong shapes. It is our most comfortable and intimate guitar, with an immediacy of presence that makes it a favorite with the coffee house crowd. The treble, already a breathtaking attribute of RainSongs, and the carbon sound, is simply sublime in this little guitar.A crystal bell clarity, balance, superb separation of individual notes, and an expansive dynamic range, make the OM one of our most individually expressive guitars.Because of Projection Tuned Layering', the OM is capable of strong projection. It won't rattle windows like the Jumbo or the Dreadnought, but the OM, when driven, packs a lot of power and punch for a small bodied guitar.
