(More customer reviews)I have the exact same guitar pictured and it is my favorite guitar to play. I also have an Alveraz Folk and a Seagull Artist Mosaic. This guitar is made by the Godin Company in Canada (Seagull)and they are all hand crafted guitars made from select trees on the island (Very cool history , look them up on the web) This is a parlor size guitar so about the 1/2 the size of a full dreadnaught and the neck goes to the 12th fret, so short scale neck which I love. The neck was perfectly set up when I received my guitar very low and easy on the fingers. The strings that came with mine were 'stale' and did not produce a good sound, but after putting new light Daddario strings this guitar just sings! The resonation is amazing for it's size! The top is solid cedar which produces a beautiful rich sound, great for folk and blue grass. It is a simple looking , but still very handsome. I removed the rosette from mine, as I did not like the rubber material and it looks better without it. (very easy to remove and does not leave any damage underneath) Perfect choice for traveling or picking on the couch, and if you are looking for a 'first' guitar this is a fine choice for any age. My instructor was very impressed with the sound and could not believe what I paid ! The bag is very nice as well, for a soft bag it provides good protection and it is made with attractive beige heavy cotton and has a straps for back packing and 2 handles for 'luggage ' style carrying. This guitar has made me practice more, as it is the perfect size to leave out beside the couch and throw on your lap when relaxing. Get it! You will be very happy with this choice!!

Several models in the A&L line are made with solid cedar or spruce tops. A solid top guitar will require a little more care in terms of exposure to heat and humidity, but the upside is significant. A solid top guitar will not only produce richer sound and better dynamic range but has the added benefit of improving over time. That's right, similar to the phenomena that makes bowed instruments such as the violin better sounding with playing over time, a solid top guitar becomes better sounding over time. This is called 'aging'. Not surprisingly, the cedar and spruce used in instrument building is not your garden-variety, lumberyard wood. The giant cedar and spruce logs that we use in guitar building comes from trees that are hundreds of years old and more than six feet in diameter. The tight, straight grain in this wood makes it flexible in the direction running across the grain while at the same time, stiff in the direction of the grain. This property is what allows the guitar top to be strong enough to support the pull from the strings while remaining flexible enough to produce the vibration necessary for full, rich sound.
