Epiphone EB-3 Electric Bass Guitar, 2 Pickups, Ebony Review

Ok..been playing bass for almost 20 years, I'm not rich and although I'd love to buy a Gibson or a Fender I always have responsabilities that prevent me from buying one of those gems. That pushed me to researh and try virtually tons of "cheap" bass guitar during those 20 years and I'll be honest, several times I had to low my head and work with what I had in hand regardless of the low standards and poor quality of any given instrument. EPIPHONE changed that. I own, like thousands out there the Epi Thunderbird and it was a great surprise to play that bass, the quality, the tone and above all, the relaibility of the axe, at that moment I became an Epiphone Fan.
Now, I just recently bought the Epiphone EB-3 for a second weapon in the arsenal and man...those out there that insist on saying that this is a "cheap" chinesse or asian made instrument need to stop and try this axe. Epiphone has increased the bar on this "easy access" instrument to a point that there is nothing to envy (quality wise) from their more expensive cousins. I'm not trying to deny the fact that the quality of a Gibson or a Fender it's by far better, I'll be a moron in denial indeed. But I'll tell you, I pound my Epi bass every week on gigs and rehersals and it's awesome on every count. Looks great, feels great, plays great and it doesnt hurt my pocket.
This is in fact a great buy
OK...I've read from some guys about the "MUD" tone of this bass and things like "it won't cut thru the mix"...well I don't know what kind of amplification, eq, effects are they using...like MILLIONS out there I beef up my tone with some beautiful stomp gems out there. Please take a listen to the EB-3 over some drum loops on my pc (ok it's not a band recording and it's not live..this is just to show you the INFINITE possibilities while recording or even on live settings...I constantly annoy the guys on my band...."hey...dude...turn that bass down would ya' I want to listen to my drums!!!!"
Here is a little nothing I recorded with the Epi EB3 [...]
EPIPHONE EB3 ROCKS!!!!

B.C. Rich NJ Deluxe Warlock Electric Guitar, Onyx Review

Both my son and I own this guitar. Well actually, I own the original 1983 NJ with all of the active electronics special switches and the Kahler tremolo. Mine was made by the master craftsmen in Nagoya Japan, hence the model NJ. My son owns the new one, made in Korea. Although they do not sound alike, the new one is well made and worth every penny. Honestly, the Korean guitar makers are really good right now. Although the pickups are stock BC Rich made, the guitar sounds deep and punchy. It feels wonderful and plays like a dream. The action is so low (1/32nd at the 24th fret). We took it to Hobbs at Union Grove Music in Santa Cruz to have it set up with low action and 11-52 GHS strings. Hobbs is the BOMB!!! The finish is really high quality. It is probably between 3/64th and and 1/32nds thick. It is not headstock heavy, but it is not a light guitar. I honestly feel that it compares to the quality of the originals and the USA BC Rich guitars, too.

B.C. Rich Kerry King Signature V Guitar, Black with Original Tribal Graphic Review

I love this guitar!
It exceeded my expectations in every way. Where to start?
This neck-through design, shape, and feel of the guitar is amazing. The neck construction is very tight and smooth. Binding would just get in the way. Its very smooth.
The frets and action on this guitar are low and fast. I love low action, and the Kerry King Signature V didn't disappoint. It so easy to hit harmonics when you want to, and the size of the frets are perfect for speed.
The abalone tribal inlays were one of the biggest surprises of the guitar. They are high quality abalone shaped in the KK tribal pattern and are very colorful when the light hits them. The pictures don't do them justice.
The best part of the neck, beside the headstock that just looks demonic in real-life, is the ebony fretboard. I've always been very picky on the fretboards I play on and was concerned about some other Ebony fretboards I've seen. However, it is simply AMAZING on this guitar. The Ebony is smooth, no discoloration, and the perfect curve for playing fast. Bright when you want it, chunky when you need it. I just can't get over how happy I am with the ebony fretboard.
The sound of the guitar is pure evil. Fast and heavy. It has a deep growl that you can feel pushing air when you play on a half-stack. Between the EMG pickups, the Kahler tremolo, and my personal favorite, the PA2 preamp, you can get some insane heavy sounds.
The PA2 preamp is great. It gives a 20db boost and when you hit it on, you can hold a note in a long sustain pretty much forever. Its perfect for over-the-top solos.
The look is amazing. Again, the picture don't do it justice. The guitar I received had a black Kahler tremolo instead of the chrome one you see in the pictures. I didn't specifically ask for a black, maybe that's how they're all made now. However, it gives it a much harder look. I haven't had any issue with the tremolo after restringing with 10 gauge and down-tuning a 1/2 step. The beveled edges give it a more white outline look to it in the pictures, its much darker looking in normal light.
Again, the sound is awesome.
I really just can't get over how cool this guitar is. I'll admit, I'm a SLAYER fan, and if you want that same heavy, evil sound... this is the guitar.

This is a Signature King axe for a reason! Top end parts like a Kahler tremolo, Grover tuners and EMG active pickups help deliver all the roaring tone Kerry King is famous for. While a Kerry inspired tribal graphic adorns the beveled edge top.

Quality ConstructionKing's Signature V features a maple body for a nice, even tone--even at monster volumes. The hard maple neck with through-body design means serious sustain, and the ebony fretboard is graced with abalone tribal inlays.

This axe doesn't skimp on hardware either, with Grover Mini-Rotomatic tuning machines and the flat-top Kahler tremolo bridge. Paired with killer electronics, this V is definitely ready to live up to the Kerry King legacy.

Beveled TopMost of B.C. Rich body styles employ a beveled edge around the shape. In many ways bevels on a top are similar to facets on a cut stone. They catch the light and reflect at different angles giving the instrument more of a three dimensional look. Some of the B.C. Rich top bevels are extreme and wide while others are subtle and narrow. Occasionally the shape of the instrument is accented by painting the bevels a contrasting color.

Neck-Through ConstructionB.C. Rich is known as one of the pioneers in Neck Through construction. They utilize it on many of their guitars, because it provides the best possible sustain, resonance, comfort and access to higher frets. Neck-through has long been considered the premium construction method for high end guitars. This construction starts with premium North American maple or Mahogany and runs from the tip of the headstock to the end of the guitar. This means that the headstock, fingerboard, pickups and bridge all are mounted to this single sound foundation. Sonically it is a difference you can hear. The neck-through construction also allows us to cut away more of the body and neck at the neck joint which provides comfort that no bolt-on or set-neck could offer. You will find the neck through feature on all of our top of the line B.C. Rich models.

EMG Active PickupsIn the bridge position, the Signature V boasts an EMG-81, a high-output pickup designed especially for the lead guitarist. The 81 is at its best for high volume overdrive and amps with a master volume. Whether you're playing power rock and roll, or overdriving your amp, there's a razor sharp attack, and incredible sustain for brilliant soloing. If you're looking for exceptional qualities in a rock pickup, the EMG-81 is the one.

An EMG-85 is in the neck position. Although the EMG-85 has more measurable output than the 81, its frequency response and string interface are different. The 85 uses two Alnico magnet loaded coils with a wide aperture to maintain a beefy lowend and a fatter top end. Because of a more natural tone, it works great as a rhythm and blues pickup because it has loads of output but isn't muddy.

Kahler TremoloThe Kahler 7300 flat mount series locking/floating tremolo system is designed to drop onto any flat top guitar. All 7300 series models include onboard fine tuners and 6 way adjustable saddles: side to side for perfect string spacing; front to back for accurate intonation and up or down for ultimate action and radius matching.

Grover Mini-RotomaticsThese precision machines fit guitar headpieces that will not take full size machines. The mini buttons provide more space for players' fingers (even larger fingers) to tune strings. Gear ratio is 14:1. Sealed-in lubrication keeps Mini-Rotomatics perfect for a lifetime.
