(More customer reviews)I have been playing guitar for 30 years, rock, lots of bossa, some jazz, faking classical, etc. I am self taught. I play a lot. AND.... I just received my Cordoba Dolce and have played it for a few hours.
The guitar looks beautiful. I find no finish flaws on mine. Smooth shiny uniform finish. No glue blobs anywhere. The wood color is so nice, a rich orangey wood glow from the cedar top and laminate mahogany.
Though ordered from Amazon, mine shipped from Tornavoz Music in Santa Monica.
Upon playing it, the action is low. I love it. The neck feels great. Not too fat, not skinny.
BUT....the sixth string has a buzz when played open. At first fret and up, the buzz is gone. All other strings sound great at all frets. So, I will at least slightly shim up the nut at the sixth string end. (As I understand, that should fix the problem.) Or, as I like the guitar enough already, I think I may get the nut and bridge switched out to bone for more optimal tone, and have a real luthier adjust for the buzz, then.
The tone is very nice. A bright cedar sound I would say. Not deeply rich, but good. I look forward to hearing the top open up with playing time. The sustain is good, the guitar has a nice over-toning ring. And the volume is good. It plays loud or soft, but it is not a booming guitar. Perhaps because the body is smaller, perhaps because the laminate sides and back. Balance across strings is good, maybe a bit louder on first string, but just fine.
The intonation sounds right, and tests with my Korg electric tuner to be spot on, with the exception of the G string which the Korg has as very slightly sharp at first, then settles into true.
I got this guitar to supplement a Pavan TP3064, which has solid spruce, and solid indian rosewood back and sides at 640 scale and 50 mm nut width. That is one sweet spanish built guitar at 1500 dollars.
So, I wanted a cedar cheapy, of similar dimensions for travel, and to not worry about. What I got in the Cordoba Dolce, seems very nice, regardless of the cheap price. I am psyched.
Thank you Amazon, Cordoba, and Tornavoz Music.
