Vox VT100 Valvetronix 100-watt 2 X 12in. Modeling Combo Amplifier Review

While I am still in the process of learning all that this amp can do I still feel compelled to sing it's praises because, brother/sister, this amp can do a lot. The valvetronix system in which the sound is treated ALMOST gets that amp singing like a true valve amp. It has 22 amp models each with 3 presets apiece, the presets are very well done- usually with modeling amps the presets are a bit over the top with more than a little too much treble- not here- the presets are tastefully done and each is eminently useful in finding great tones. On top of the 66 presets (you see what I mean by a lot) you can bank and save 8 of your own custom tones using the 22 amp models plus a bevy of effects (Tape Echo and Rotary Speaker are my favorites, so far)- small quibble- the foot-switch is sold separately. It has a power knob that lets you adjust the wattage so you can actually play this monster in your bedroom or use it effectively for recording but it's at the higher volumes where this baby really sings- because the valves are NOT used just in the pre-amp stage you can really activate them at the higher volumes and that is where you get closer to the sound of a real valve amp but at a fraction of the cost.
If you are looking for a versatile amp the Vox VT100 is not just the best bang for your buck but just a flat out great choice at any price. Seriously, now that I own one I would pay twice the price.

Laney VC15-110 VC Series 15 Watt Class AB Guitar Tube 1x10 Combo Review

Laney VC15-110 VC Series 15 Watt Class AB Guitar Tube 1x10 Combo

This is a moderately priced tube amp that features channel switching and good build quality. The clean channel is crisp at lower levels, but won't do Fender type cleans at higher levels. Of course, like the Vox Class A amps it's modeled after, it really has it's own sound, it isn't meant to be a Fender. As with a lot of lower powered amps, a little distortion creeps in when the volume is cranked, especially with humbuckers. The drive channel is fine, it delivers a lot of smooth breakup when needed.
The VC15 is lightweight for a tube amp, there's no problem carrying it around, and it appears to be well built. It uses a pair of EL84 power tubes, which are relatively inexpensive, and it doesn't require biasing when replacing tubes, so cost of ownership should be low.

New for 2005, and the only amp on the market to employ 'The Dark Art'. The VC15-110 is the new baby of the VC range. Built on the distinguished heritage of the VC30, the VC15 delivers great tone. 15 watts of amazingly warm or classic bluesy lead tone voiced by three 12AX7's, powered by matched EL84's, and cranked out through its internal 10" speaker. If 10" ain't enough for you, there are two dedicated extension cabinets - the GS112VE and the GS210VE. Laney - Power To The Music

Kustom Double Barrel 30 Watt 2x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier Review

Kustom Double Barrel 30 Watt 2x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier

This amp is a good value for the money, but does not compare with a real tube amp. The amp is plenty loud, and has OK tone, better than the Fender Frontman, a comparable high-selling amp. It is a bit mid-heavy, high end is not that crisp and the low end can get a little muddy. But dont let that stop you, with some determination and a lot of adjustment, there is some good tone inside that amp.
We found the sweet spot on it, not too loud. We mic it and run through the PA, it sounds great.
Advantages:
-plenty loud
-tone has good range and can be dialed in
-gain channel has a great tube crunch, from bluesy to thrashy!
-great deal, beginner amp price, sounds nearly pro
Disadvantages:
-no footswitch for channel / effects change
-reverb and chorus are crap (turn them off, get nice pedals instead)
-only one input
-no fx loop

Celestion Blue Guitar Speaker, 15 Ohm Review

Celestion Blue Guitar Speaker, 15 Ohm

The reissue Vox amps (AC-30 and AC-15) are great, faithful reproductions of the originals but but lack their "sparkle" without this speaker. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's worth every penny. If you want that great classic Vox tone, this speaker is a MUST.
