Lanikai NK-T Custom Series Koa Tenor Ukulele Review

Lanikai NK-T Custom Series Koa Tenor Ukulele

I have played many ukuleles and to me this by far sounds the best. The natural Koa seems to resonate more than the standard Koa or curly Koa ukuleles. I did switch out my strings as soon as I got it for some black strings with the low string being a metal wound string but that's a personal preference. The workmanship is beautiful. I was skeptical originally because I am the type to try before I buy. I had the S-TEQ before this and didn't like the "bright" sound compared to the softer Koa sound. I will try to post a video review so you can hear it.

When the British ship The Ravenscrag first landed in Hawaii they brought with them an instrument never before seen on the islands. The machête was an all mahogany instrument that captured the attention of the locals who wanted one of their own. With no native mahogany on the islands the Portuguese ship carpenters began building what is now known as the ukulele out of koa. Lanikai continues in that tradition by creating the Natural Koa Series. Featuring a Solid Figured Koa top and Figured Koa back/sides the NK series has the exceptionally crisp tone that koa is prized for. The abalone inlays on the body and sound hole coupled with flame maple binding make this ukulele a work of art. Lanikai breaks tradition is by installing Grover tuners geared 18/1 for exceptional tuning control. This is a welcome change for anyone who has dealt with the frustration of using the standard friction tuners. With the easy playability, and included instruction booklet written by Mary Lou Dempler you will be playing in a matter of minutes. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. The ukulele is an addicting instrument that can and will be taken everywhere. The standard tuning on a Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukulele is GCEA, and on a Baritone DGBE. If you can play one ukulele you can play them all! besides its great looks, this ukulele has an amazingly sweet, deep tone. while not solid koa, you can hardly tell. it sounds amazing, feels amazing to play. great intonation, and as it's a lanikai, should come with aquila strings. i got mine two days ago and haven't put it down. well worth the cost.

The Curly Koa Series is the pride of Lanikai. The CK-T uses Hawaiian Koa that is especially prized for its curly grain. Lanikai makes use of this exquisite wood by handcrafting the CK series to exacting specifications. Grown mostly on the island of Oahu, the gorgeous red-hued wood used for the Curly Koa series make these ukuleles look as beautiful as they sound. In its most traditional form the CK-T is a Tenor ukulele that owes its existence to Portuguese immigrants bringing their craft of music instrument building to Hawaii in the 1870's. The CK series comes with die cast tuning machines geared 14/1 for those players that demand greater control over their tuning. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. The ukulele is an addicting instrument that can and will be taken everywhere. The standard tuning on a Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukulele is GBEA, and on a Baritone DGBE. Lanikai SM-C Custom Series Spalted Mango Concert Ukulele Review

Lanikai SM-C Custom Series Spalted Mango Concert Ukulele
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked this up a few months back and I have to say it just gets better with age. I was looking at the Ibanez spalted mango uke and it looked great, it was also much cheaper, but it sounded like a tin can with strings. I think that is because theirs is a laminate. The Lanikai is solid woods all the way around. At first it sounded a little muted, but I kept playing it and the top loosened up and now sounds great. Very mellow not like any of my other ukes. After I bought this one I saw that there is a Spalted Mango Lanikai with electronics and a killer looking headstock. That one is the SM-CE its very cool but I'll probably end up putting a MiSi in this one.
Great uke, oh... by the way dont go by the picture, each one is completely different mine showed up and it had the most killer looking top on it.

The new Spalted Mango Series ukuleles illustrate Lanikai's spirit of experimentation by bringing exiting new developments to the ukulele world. SM ukuleles offer exquisite beauty and a very mellow tone, thanks to their solid spalted mango construction. Spalted mango has a unique tonal characteristic that has the midrange of mahogany but the roundness of spruce. The difficulties in crafting an instrument with spalted woods are greatly outweighed by the resulting tone and striking appearance. The flame mahogany neck adds to the stability and comfort of this exquisite instrument. Rounded off with the gold vintage style tuners this ukulele is a classic in the making. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. My wife is the uke lady, at my house she owns 4 and mostly plays this one. THis is a great uke for the price. The set of strings that came with the uke needed to be replaces due to dry rot, but that has not been uncommon with other ukes. * strings is really full sounding. Fit and finish are very good.

I had no problem with the delivery, and the uke is great. Only bad thing, is that i had to tax it in to norway, so the prise got higher.. But im still very happy for this uke.
