Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Reissue Plain Top VOS Electric Guitar Bourbonburst Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Amazing guitar. Cannot imagine someone actually buying this off amazon, but you never know. You might be in the military and cannot actually play this axe. The sound this guitar puts out is stunning. It sounds so much better than a contemporary LP Standard. Played clean it has a jazzy/blues feel and sound. Played clean this guitar is immediately formidable and you will sound better than you are. The neck is wide and slow. Played highly distorted with gain on max, this becomes a different animal, the blues heritage is glaringly apparent. I have a couple other Gibson guitars, a 1995 SG Special and a 1993 Les Paul Standard so I know what I was looking for. This is a custom shop LP. The sounds simply blows other LPs away. I played every guitar in the room. This one sounded the best. Better even that the 3 pickup $5000 Frampton and slightly better than the 2008 LP Custom. It came down to this one and the 08 LP Custom. This one edged out the custom, the sound is perfect. While it is a "custom shop" it's different. I thought at first it was a hollowed out one, but its not. Its made of lighter wood. This guitar sings. Remember in Spinal Tap when Nigel asked Rob Reiner, "can you hear the sustain"? This is that guitar, sustain till your fingers bleed and eyeballs pop. 4-stars? Way too expensive. If I was smart I could have saved $500 and bought a 5 years old version of this on craigslist. I did play it and could not put it down, I have no regrets but if you want to save some $$$ buy a used one that is starting to appreciate, like built in cash. Also it was $80 to get it set up. If you buy it used you can easily find one that's been set up. The best sounding gibson ever?

The 1958 Les Paul Reissue VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Electric Guitar from the Gibson Custom Shop has the great features, tone, and looks that made the original '58 Les Paul a classic, but with a plain top for "workhorse" comfort and feel. Features a maple top, mahogany back, and one-piece set-in mahogany neck with rounded '50s neck profile, nickel plated hardware, and an original ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge. The Gibson Burstbucker Pickups used are historically accurate "Patent Applied For" replicas with an airy tone and unbalanced coils. A medium output Burstbucker 1 is used in the neck position, while the Burstbucker 2 in the bridge position has a slightly hotter output. Both have unpolished magnets and non-potted coils like the original "Patent Applied For" pickups.Like all VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Series instruments, the 1958 Les Paul Reissue Plain Top VOS is handcrafted for comfort and playability in the Gibson Custom Shop. The construction, neck profile, hardware, and electronics are period accurate, and a special nitrocellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently aged vintage guitar.
