(More customer reviews)This guitar is incredible, espec for the price. Being an on again/ off again player, this instrument has renewed my interest in playing again for the following reasons:
1. Excellent workmanship. Hard to believe it is made in Mexico. Not that that is inherently bad, but aren't the American ones supposed to be better?
2. The neck is elegantly playable.
3. The sound is everything I could want.
4. Versatility is the main thing. If you want a Santana sustain and warmth. It's got it. If you want a sweet jazz hollowbody sound, it's got it too.
At this point I would take this guitar to the desert island over my PRS and all of the other expensive axes I own.

(More customer reviews)The telecaster was one of the first mass produced electric guitars ever and every one that came after has been trying to build on perfection. This guitar is one of the most versatile I have ever played. You can produce twangy country tones, blues tones, and distorted hard rock tones, just by changing pickups and amp settings. The action seems slightly higher than on my Strat, and is a little harder to play, but that actually works well for me, because I like to wrestle with the strings a little, but that might not be for everyone. For the money, you will not find a better guitar anywhere.

Fender Classic Series '72 Telecaster Deluxe Electric Guitar, Walnut Review

(More customer reviews)Recently I purchased one of these after being up in the air over the Fender Blacktop model Telecaster and the '72 Deluxe. While the Blacktop seemed like the more consumer friendly purchase, and a good buy, I ultimately picked this guitar for its good looks and build quality. The maple neck on the '72 is glossy and unlike the rosewood fretboards I have played in the past. The tuners are ill-reputed, but I have not had problems with the guitar falling out of tune. Ultimately, however, people buy this guitar for the Fender Wide Range Humbucker pickups, and they sound versatile and nice. The Blacktop humbuckers have been described as 'hotter' and more forward-seeming. This seems true to me, while the '72 may have a warmer tonal quality. The only problem I have been having is the slightly 'dark' sound of the Wide Range pickups being too thick. Various people report upgrading the pots in the '72 to 500k in the volume to give more presence. This is an inexpensive repair which I have not made yet but plan to. I think, though, in the right rig, with a decent amp, this guitar is a solid buy, and a lot of fun to play.
