Squier by Fender Black and Chrome Standard Stratocaster HSS Rosewood, Black w/ Mirrored Pickguard Review

Squier by Fender Black and Chrome Standard Stratocaster HSS Rosewood, Black w/ Mirrored Pickguard

Okay, this is the first electric guitar I ever bought, it was some years ago, and I was excited.
Over the years, it got pretty worn down.
It is a nice guitar, everybody loves the pickguard, but the pickguard will get scratched up and be kinda ugly.
The pickups aren't bad, factory strings aren't either, but you have to upgrade the strings sometime.
It has a nice sound, nice paintjob, I wouldn't recommend any really insane wammies, it'll bend the neck, but it has an adjustable truss bar, which is nice.
Overall, nice guitar, I would recommend getting something in the price range that is better, though, maybe a used B.C. Rich ASM standard.

Recording King Classic Series I OOO-Style Acoustic Guitar (Mahogany) Review

Recording King Classic Series I OOO-Style Acoustic Guitar (Mahogany)

Every now and then something comes along that surprises you and makes you smile. This guitar will do that. I'm a 51 year old guitar player and I've played in dance bands since the mid 70's. I like the saying "One can never have too many guitars". I have about a dozen or so and about half of them are big name 2500+ models. I wanted a 000 size to leave out so I could pick it up anytime inspiration strikes. Finding a decent guitar for not alot of money is tough, then trying to find it online without hearing it is a real task. I searched all over and finally clicked on this one.
It arrived double boxed in great shape. I took it out and tuned it up and it sounded great. Mine came with a hang tag stating it was strung with D'Addario strings which are my favorite. The tuners are nice and smooth, after the strings settled in it is holding tune very well. I was impressed that this model cam with a bone nut and saddle. This is very important for a good tone. Most lesser expensive models come with plastic, Yuck! This guitar also has a slightly wider neck, perfect for larger hands, like mine, finger picking and strumming. Its not so wide that it feels like a 2x4 in your hand though. My nephew played it, he has small hands and he loved it. The volume is suprising, I would not have thought that a smaller guitar would produce this much volume. It has decent bass for a 000 size, mid range and highs sound beautiful. The finish is beautiful, dark Mahogany back and sides and a natural solid spruce top. A solid top is very important for good tone. The neck is nice and smooth. Some of the dark color on the fret board is comming off on my finger tips after a playing session but it washes right off. The setup on mine is great. I'm picky on setup. I like low action and usually have to have a new guitar set up. I don't plan on changing anything on this one. I does not have any dots or markers on the fretboard. It has position markers on the neck. If you like to watch the fretboard to know where you are this may take a little getting used to, but after a little playtime you won't need the fretboard markers anymore. No pickgard, if it matters to you, I think it looks better without one.
In conclusion: Great sounding, small bodied, easy playing, excellent choice for a parlor guitar, starter guitar, travel, campfire singing. In the 100-500 dollar range I would rank this guitar near the top of the list.

Taylor Guitars 414ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Taylor Guitars 414ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

I bought this guitar after first looking at the 410ce, which is also an amazing guitar. The 414ce is for me a perfect guitar, and in my opinion out-played and out-sounded guitars from Martin and other brands that cost far more. The neck of this guitar and the action on the strings has an almost electric guitar feel (at least it feels similar to my Fender Strat). The sound, both as-is and amplified, is vibrant and clear.
It would be very hard for me to imagine you being unhappy with this guitar. I absolutely love it.

Ovangkol lends exotic flare to the 414ce, with a tone many find similar to Indian rosewood. Providing access to the upper registers of the fingerboard, the soft Venetian cutaway is both practical and attractive, and dramatically outlined with contrasting white binding. The Expression System pickup completes the package on this popular acoustic/electric guitar.

Taylor's Grand Auditorium ShapeThe Grand Auditorium was the first guitar shape designed from scratch by Bob Taylor. It was unveiled to commemorate the company's 20th Anniversary in 1994, and since then it has more than lived up to its promise. Although the GA has the width and depth of a Dreadnought, its narrower waist gives it the appearance of a smaller instrument, adds treble "zing" across the guitars tonal spectrum, sharpens the definition of individual notes, and also enables it to rest comfortably in the lap. Because Taylor removed mass from the width of the GAs braces, the guitar top moves faster, resulting in a snappy, bell-like tone. The GA is designed to be a strong fingerpicking guitar that also can handle medium strumming, and is exceptionally versatile.

A Venetian cutaway in the 414ce Grand Auditorium body allows better access to the upper frets. In the past, many players moving to acoustic guitars grew accustomed to the cutaways on their electric guitars, while others simply like the freedom of movement into the upper register that a cutaway allows. Now, cutaways are favored as much for their decorative appeal as for their function.
Solid sitka spruce top is joined with ovangkol sides and back for a tone similar to rosewood, but with the livelier sparkle of mahogany.

Cort Earth MINI 3/4 Size Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Natural Satin with Gig Bag Review

Cort Earth MINI 3/4 Size Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Natural Satin with Gig Bag
Average Reviews:

I am in love with my Cort Earth Mini while my Martin sleeps safely in it's case. When I get home from work and don't want to drag out the big dread, or if traveling, this is the perfect little guitar. It required a setup, but the rewards were great. Nice fast little neck, great crisp sound that is bigger than you would expect. Gig bag is a gig bag - nothing special. Finish is minimal... hardly any lacquer on this one at all, allowing the tone to shine through supposedly. Frets required a little bit of finishing on the side to reduce the sharpness, but if what you care about is tone/playability - this one is a keeper. VERY nice sounding little guitar. Highly recommended.

Fender Sonoran SCE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Black Review

Fender Sonoran SCE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Black

I was suprise that out of the box it was pretty close to being right in tune. The on board tuner,3 directional is easy to use. I have not plugged it into a amp yet. The sound without an amp. is very clear and tone carries well and loud enough for me. This is my 1st cutaway and it is the good easy way to get down on the highs without hand stretch as much. I looked this over and the workmanship is good but not excellent. The paint and trim is smooth as it blends together in the edges really fine. The mother of pearl guard adds coolness to the black color. One thing of warning! Like laquer paint does, one bump and it's hairline crack and dent you get. Be very carefull in this aspect and use a hard case. The neck is a bit rough on the edges and fret bars kind of high I think. The strings are good and the adjusters and head are the key! They bring back the "Strat'O'caster" head that screams "Fender" on this model once again. And it makes it nice having adjusters all in a row. For the price and it's looks, this novice player is very happy.

Martin LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Review

Martin LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I actually purchased the LX1E from Sam Ash. The electronics (if you use them) are well worth the roughly $50 price increase. I bought this guitar for my son, for his 18th birthday. He will be going off to college next year, and I thought it would make a great dorm guitar. With the travel (he's looking at being around 2,000 miles from) - it seemed like it would be a convenient size.

I own two high-end Martins and he usually plays one of them...that he's pretty much claimed as his own, but he admits he would be a little nervous about it in a dorm (at least at first). We test drove the Little Martin and the Baby Taylor. Both are excellent 3/4 size guitars. As most reviews state, we found the Martin to have a warmer tone and the Taylor to have a brighter tone. Both of us prefer what we consider to be the richer tone of the Martin so I went with the Little Martin. The sound for such a small guitar is amazing. The joints, seams and finish are excellent. It looks and feels like a quality instrument. My son loves the action, feel and sound. It has become his guitar of choice - he plays it at church instead of the full-size Martin he was playing. It's also just a lot of fun to play. For the price, the quality and sound is beyond what you would expect.
I would recommend this guitar for guitarists who travel, players who are small in stature, and/or those who want a cheaper, but still good-sounding guitar to knock around with.
