The THD Hot Plate Attenuator is a power attenuator and noise reducer that lets you attain the incredible sound of your amp running at high output and full distortion but at recording, small club, and neighbor-friendly volumes. It also makes a perfect dummy load.A power attenuator is simply a device placed between the speaker output and the speaker cabinet. It acts like a huge master volume control and permits the amp to be turned up most or all the way while absorbing most of the power generated by the amplifier and turning this power into heat. It passes a small part of the power to the speaker.Designed for use strictly with vacuum tube guitar amplifiers, each version of the Hot Plate is optimized for a specific impedance. These inductive loads are frequency-compensated, which means you get the best possible sound for that impedance speaker and amplifier combination. Plus the Hot Plate is no simple power attenuator. It offers many capabilities that make it a great addition to any tone-hungry player's arsenal.Built-in Noise ReductionThe THD Hot Plate is the only attenuator on the market with built-in noise reduction to reduce the hiss and hum between notes. Its passive, single-ended noise-reduction system provides approximately 10dB of broadband noise reduction without gating or pumping and without affecting the tone of the amp. A by-product of the noise reduction circuit is that it generates light via a front-mounted bulb as you play. The harder you play, the brighter it glows.Tone ControlsThe Hot Plate is also the only attenuator offering a Bright switch and a Deep switch for tailoring your sound. The Bright switch gives you 2 different high-frequency levels so you can compensate for an overly bright or dull speaker cabinet. The Deep switch offers 2 distinct bass settings to help you fill out the bottom end or reduce the bass in a cabinet with too much low end.Adjustable Line OutTHD Hot Plates also feature a Line Out, which is adjustable by its own volume cont

Boss VE-20 Vocal Performer Processor Pedal Review

Boss VE-20 Vocal Performer Processor Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not a sound guru or anything close to that, but have been playing music for many years now and have learned a thing or two along the way.
I play the guitars and do back vocals on a copy band. We are all some sort of "retired" musicians from the 80's, and are now playing again since 2005 while we have other careers during the day.
This means we don't have much time to deal with complex issues, and will like to use any available time playing and performing instead.
Our rehearsals are carried out in our own studio (similar to a recording Studio), were we have all type of equipments such as PA's, speakers, monitors, mixers, effects, mics, crossovers, floor monitors, basically everything that may be needed. In any given day you'll get pretty decent sound from such kind of equipment but you'll also find yourself spending most of your time trying to be a sound engineer instead of a musician (unless you can afford a specific and qualified person for that task).
Those who have played in these type of studios, will know that even considering there is a pretty decent live sound, the vocals are sometimes affected by echo or too much or too low reverberation, delay, among other things, depending on the mixer setup as well as other aspects such as room dimensions, acoustics, etc.
Any detail will have an influence on the final sound mix and the end result.
Before I purchased the Boss VE-20 processor, the quality of vour vocals was good, but there were ocassional problems like feedbacks or hiss, sometimes noise or wrong delay rate, reverb or too much signal decay during rehearsals. The problem magnitude depended on how much our singer moved across the room or due to mixer parameter changes in certain songs, patches, etc, and these issues affected our performance consistency.
With the Boss VE-20 we are very satisfied because it features pretty decent settings for different singing styles (Rock, Blues, R&B, etc) and some of the effects are just amazing. Despite having a lot of other equipment at our disposal we are now only using the Boss VE-20 effects for the vocals and leaving all other parameters on the mixer at "flat" (0) position, just amplifying the signal through the PA. All the previous issues are now gone.
The quality of the VE-20 preamp has proven to be very good for us (Well our singer is very talented wich obviously helps pretty much)but all the effects are excellent as well.
The unit is very "user friendly" and easy to customize your own settings. As any other Boss pedal it is very robust and intuitive to use.
Effects such as harmonizer and multiple voices are just smashing and sound very realistic. It is amazing how different factory presets will perfectly adapt to different venues or scenarios (ie, Hall, Large Room, Small Room, Arena, Cathedral, etc). At Boss they have really done their homework by having professional sound mix parameters on each preset with perfect balance, and you can even adjust those and save them in a customizable patch.
To be honest we did not tried any other option before this one, as there are similar products in the market today, and therfore cannot stablish a fair comparison, but this one was very useful right out of the box and we feel like it was really worth the price paid.
In our case it has really helped solve a lot of complicated back vocals (those difficult to perform while playing an instrument) as our main singer is now doing most of these back vocals herself. This has also improved our overall vocal sound and now we spend more time playing and less time solving mixing problems on the sound console.
I won't be surprised if in the future Boss develops a bigger version of the VE-20, with more features, just like they have done with many other effects.
But for the moment I will highly recommend this Boss VE-20 Vocal Processor to any amateur and semi-pro band that want's to improve the vocal sound quality, inestead of having a band member becoming a part-time sound technician.
We are a couple of months away from using this on a live performace but for what we've seen so far, are pretty sure we'll be a success.

ART Pro VLA II Tube Compressor Review

ART Pro VLA II Tube Compressor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit was all the rave a few years back in the audio/home recording magazines. And for good reason.
The PRO VLA is a very smooth compressor with good metering. It's easy to get a nice overarching compression ratio for individual channel OR for main mix duties. The stereo link function is nice, but I don't know how useful the panning feature is when it's linked in stereo. I just leave it panned up the middle to keep both channels' output the same.
And kudos to ART for engineering it to be relatively free of pumping and breathing artifacts that plague lesser units.
I've got mine in the main mix insert of my analog front-end/digital back end studio. It's tightened up my mixes and the sound quality has improved greatly, as compared to the other brand name comp that was in the chain previously.
The fact that it's a very sexy looking unit doesn't hurt. The VU's are as sensitive as the ones on my big analog mixer and lend a nice vibe.
I'd put this into the 'why didn't I buy one sooner' pile.
Good stuff!!!

Hey NOw! I love this pedal. Along with some MXR distortion+ you can get a great Jerry sound. I haven't played the MuTron though. The only thing I would change is adding an ability to change the length of the swell of the effect. To make it shorter or longer. My guess is I can open it up and do this but Im not sure. I got mine Used for $100. and it is the best value pedal I have bought.

This board, hands down, is one of the best and most intuitive boards on the planet. The PreSonus StudioLive 24.4.2 is a multidimensional board with several layers of access and control. After only a couple of days working with the mixer, I was flying through the setup and menus. The pres on this board are phenomenal and sound great with virtually any microphone. Radial Tonebone Plexitube Tube Distortion Pedal Review

Radial Tonebone Plexitube Tube Distortion Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like this pedal. I bought this thinking I could get a tube sound while doing home recording without and amp. It'd didn't work well that way, but this thing rages when sent through an amp. I was using a basic 2X12" 100W fender and it sounded amazing. It even sounds great through my 25W 10" practice amp.

2-channel tube distortion pedal combines the natural warmth and harmonic generation of a 12AX7 tube with the control and saturation of Radial's unique multi-stage solid-state drive circuit. This combination provides incredible gain with tons of overtones and, when combined with their unique passive-interactive EQ, produces four generations of Marshall Plexi tones worthy of a Shakespearian Ode.Designed to enhance onstage functionality, the Plexitube features two distinct distortion channels for on-the-fly transition between rhythm and lead settings. Channel-1 has been optimized for rhythm with chunk rhythm tones and scooped out mids for a thunderous wall-of-sound and complete world domination. Channel-2 is optimized to produce razor-sharp cut for solos and sustaining mids that are so smooth, they can make a grown man cry. This is augmented with an effects loop that can automatically turn your delay on for leads. No tap dancing! When the Plexitube is off, true-bypass connectivity ensures the natural tone of your guitar goes directly to your amp without obstruction or a tone robbing load.Plexitube Setup:The Plexitube is your 'Plexi-in-a-box'! Just plug the Plexitube output into your amp to open up a world of tube driven British rock tones. The separate trim, drive, contour and EQ controls give you instant command of both rhythm and lead distortion settings as well as a true bypass mode that ensures that nothing gets in the way of your pure guitar-to-amp tone. But that's just the beginning because you've also got a foot-switchable effects loop at your disposal that's there when you need it and out of your clean signal path when you don't. You will be amazed at the breadth and scope of the sounds just waiting to be discovered in this truly versatile pedal!

Schertler DYN-M for Mandolin Review

Schertler DYN-M for Mandolin
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've only played one gig with this pickup but I'm very impressed. Mandolin pickups tend to over-accentuate the highs I find, giving a brittle, harsh sound. Not so this pickup - it really does sound very true to the acoustic sound of the instrument.
I went direct from the instrument to the mixer, and I'm not sure that I'd bother with a preamp. The signal is strong enough to not really require a preamp, and the tonal balance is so good that I don't feel the need for any further control.
I had some reservations about the method of affixing the pickup to the instrument top, but it works surprisingly well. On my first attempt I had no problems putting it on, and it seemed quite solidly fixed. Plus, if someone does trip over the cord, it might be just as well if it comes off the instrument. Yes, it's a little fiddly to have to go through fitting business this every time you play in public, but the upside is that:
- You don't need to modify your instrument at all
- You can easily switch the pickup from one instrument to another
All in all, yes expensive but it does exactly what it claims to do.

I do not recommend buying anything from this seller.
They are the biggest cheaters in town.
When I got the guitar, it was a mess...
It was an open box, fingerprints and smudges all over it.
Obviously, it was a re-boxed return.
And I supposedly bought a "new" guitar.
I can't express how ticked off I was.
I'm sure you would too ...
This is the work of the seller.
But this is just the beginning of the story.
I called and got a RMA number for the return.
It costed $50 to return a "used" guitar sold as "new".
After a month, I noticed that my credit card was not credited for the purchase.
Called and after waiting on the line for a long time and going over hoops, finally got the return.
Wouldn't you expect that once they got the guitar they would credit your card?
Not with this seller.
This seller is not musician's friend, but is musician's biggest nightmare.
Hope nobody gets one.

JamHub BedRoom Silent Rehearsal Studio Review

JamHub BedRoom Silent Rehearsal Studio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product to enable my band to have a "silent practice" in one of our band mate's apartments. Practice / Rehearsal spaces are expensive and not always ideal. The cost of renting one cannot really be justified if you are just getting together to jam, work on new material, or audition a new band member. We all live in the city in apartments so the idea of a "silent practice" was very attractive (no more angry neighbors).
With a price point of $299.00 this thing almost pays for itself after one practice and is certainly in-line with other similar set-ups. I purchased this to own but a band could easily split this 3 or 4 ways and get out for almost nothing.
There is a lot of information on their website but there are a few of things to note before you buy.
First, if you truly want a silent practice space you will need an electronic drum kit (i.e., V-Drums). It is possible to use an acoustic drum kit and the technique involved there is described on their website.
Second, guitar players and bass players will either need an amplifier with a stereo line out or an amp modeling floor pedal (my choice as it fits in a backpack and requires no heavy lifting).
Third, you will need to procure some stereo patch cords. As a guitar player I only had mono patch cables. The JamHub takes a stereo 1/4 inch input from your respective floor pedal / modeling amp / amplifier. My floor pedal in particular has a left-mono-out and a right-stereo-out so I purchased a stereo patch cable that was stereo 1/4 inch on one end and split mono 1/4 inch on the other. Guitar center has these and should be able to direct you. Of course check your user manuals for info on your particular device.
Finally, headphones. So far our crappy $15 - $60 (low - mid end) level of headphones have been working great! You will most likely need to pick up some 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch adapters here though as all the inputs and outputs on the JamHub are 1/4 inch. These are cheap and widely available. If your headphone cables are less than 9' you may also want to consider some extensions.
The JamHub performs great. I love it for a couple of reasons.
First it consolidates both mixer and headphone amp into one device. In doing so its nice and compact and extremely portable. This allows you to practice anywhere with minimal setup and fuss. You have one power adapter to worry about and no additional cables (beyond ones used to connect your instruments) either.
Another advantage over a more typical headphone amp + mixer combination (and possibly the coolest feature) is unlike a typical headphone amp, which only has one level for the incoming mixed signal, each person connected to the JamHub gets and their very own INDIVIDUAL MIX! To clarify, this means that everyone in the band can adjust the level for everyone else in the mix to their preference.
For example, as a guitar player I prefer to hear the myself, then vocals, then drums, then others. With the JamHub I can turn myself up, then dial in the vocals next, then drums, then others without affecting anyone else's mix! Each additional band member can do exactly the same thing. Think of it as having your very own sound guy to mix in just what you want to hear as he would for you in your monitors on stage. This is truly amazing and solves ALL volume issues usually associated with a typical practice.
Everything about this product is well thought out and and really creates an "ideal" environment to write / play & rehearse music without any infighting about volume or disturbing your neighbors (finally we can practice past 10pm!).
I hope this review helps you in your decision.

Epiphone worked hard to bring it back in an affordable guitar that doesn't sacrifice quality, and now this limited edition electric guitar has been further updated with even more pro-features. Ion iGP03C Electric Guitar Kit with Gig Bag Review

Ion iGP03C Electric Guitar Kit with Gig Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i bought this guitar and i was very happy with it as i knew nothing about guitars, i then compared this to other guitars like fender, gibson and ibanez and i was shocked. I have been playing guitar for 3 years now and i am now a proud owner of a gibson les paul. This guitar has no tone, it doesn't give you the feel other guitars give you. The pickups are lifeless, the tone and volume controls get wobbly after a few touches and the 5-way selector feels cheap. The amp is ok for starters but the lead that comes with it makes a horrible buzzing sound which gets higher when you put on distortion and turn the volume up, so aslong as you buy a new cable the amp should be ok.
If you really want a guitar worth your money at this price then go for a fender squier strat which has just about everything this pack has but the guitar and amp are so much better, even if the amp is 10-WATT on the fender and its 15-WATT on the ion version, the fender sounds so much more lively

Silver Creek T-160 Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

Silver Creek T-160 Acoustic Guitar, Natural

I've been playing a few years. Two years back I invested in a Martin EC00028, it is beautiful as you would expect for guitar priced over £2K. Having got used to the slightly wider fretboard on the Martin (1 & 3/4 inches as opposed to your standard 1 & 11/16" at the nut), I was looking for a similar sized cheaper guitar that I would be comfortable knocking around with on the beach or at parties etc.. My choices of guitars with this same fretboard dimentions was limited to say the least. In fact, there was only one other that fit the bill and pleased me asthetically (the name escapes me now).
So, about a year ago I called the only stockist of this make, which happened to be in the U.S, to order one. At the time it was priced at only $199.00, so I was happy to take the risk of not playing before I purchased (which can obviously be dodgey at the best of times). To cut a very long and irritating story short, the U.S shop refused to courier the guitar to the U.K. and the manufacturer was not able to supply direct from China. I had to first send the item from the shop in the U.S to a friend in Canada (which involved paying additional tax) and then from there to me in the U.K. By the time I had finished I had paid around £150 to get a $199 guitar to the U.K. What an idiot right? - Wrong!
Without doubt it has been my favourite guitar ever. I wouldn't swap it for my martin, but only because of the £'s involved. The build quality on mine is excellent and the woods used (solid top, back and sides!)are really quite outstanding for the price. The tones honestly match that of the martin. I tweeked mine a little, some decent strings and lowering the action a fraction and just loved it.
If you are looking for a guitar in this price range and like a slightly wider fretboard, buy this one, I've not come across anything at this cost to beat it. Genuinely a great bit of kit.

Gibson Holy Explorer Limited Edition Electric Guitar Review

This guitar is GREAT!!! Sounds great, looks great and plays great!
Well set up from the factory. The color is beautiful actually more of a deep cherry than pics show.
While it did not come with a Certificate of Authenticity as the prior poster had mentioned he also
mentioned you can get one through the factory as all Gibson's are stamped with a serial # and
only 350 made in this limited run and the flood in Nashville is plausable.
Just a really nice guitar. Light weight but still great sustain.
Have seen it in "Today's deals" 2x now (bought mine the 1st time I saw it).
Definitely worth the current price but always nice to get a bargain!

An enormously playful take on the seminal Explorer, the Holy Explorer from Gibson USA gives you all the meaty tone and speedy playability of the original model. Yet, while following the exact body lines of its iconic predecessor from the Modernistic Series of 1958, the solid mahogany body of this limited edition model is shot full of holes, creating both a lighter guitar and an interesting modification of the original Explorers resonant characteristics.
Cutouts in the solid mahogany body create both a lighter guitar and an interesting modification of an already striking design.Distinctive "drooping" headstock with six-in-line Grover Mini tuners.
