(More customer reviews)This is my second mandolin; I was looking for an intermediate instrument to replace my beginner Oscar Schmidt. This mandolin has an amazing thick full sound and is fun to play. The details are quite striking and I am very pleased with it. The only caution is the bridge comes separate and not installed, but it's easy enough to install one's self. I did a quick Internet search on "install mandolin bridge" and found several videos and presentations on how to do it took me about an hour to get the intonation and tuning correct using an electronic tuner.

Trinity College TM-375 Irish Bouzouki (Natural Finish, Hardshell Case) Review

(More customer reviews)The build quality and finish on this instrument is good. My only complaint is that the strap button was not glued in properly.
The unit arrived in it's case with an installed set of strings. The floating bridge was not set up, and was in a separate bag. No instructions whatsoever came with this unit, and they don't have a web presence. Since I hadn't set up a floating bridge before it was trial and error, but once it was set up, it sounds great tuned to GDAD.
Another concern is that the two lower courses are set up in octaves. If you want to switch these to unison, you are going to have the task of routing out the nut and bridge, as the grooves for the higher string on each of those courses is a lot thinner and wouldn't fit the thicker unison string.

Gold Tone GM-6 Octave Mandolin (Maple) Review

(More customer reviews)Properly speaking it's an octave guitar (an octave higher than standard guitar tuning) with a mandolin body. Well made, even and smooth sides to the frets, sounds good.
String tension is high, but this possibly is one of the sources of the proper tone.
Doesn't sound exactly like a mandolin but it's in the infield -- well more than in the ballpark. For guitarists it's a play-right-now instrument which is fun. If, like me, your hands are kinda large for a real mandolin it will take a little practice, but it rewards the effort.
